P3 Issues/ no hunger and anxiety, please help

    Good Morning,

My P3 history: in Previous rounds I use to gain, could not get down, and continued to gain or yo yo up and down.

P3 Now: I tried to really be careful and increase my calories gradually. This was easy as I did not feel hungry.
    Day 1&2: 700-900 calories
    Day 3&4: 900-1000
    Day 5-6: 1000-1200 ( I barely hit 1000)
Day 7 forward build to 1550, my number I can eat and not gain weight on.

SO today is day P3 Day 7. My weight is stable, I have only gone up .4 (salty food) which came off. I have cleared eggs and cheese. PROBLEM: I am not hungry and have anxiety about eating. I am not sure if I am not hungry, or have such anxiety I can't eat.

Every morning I have black coffee (I always have drank it black, I love it that way) and green tea until 10:30. Then I have 2 egg whites.

Lunch yesterday was salmon and a salad, no dressing on the salad it just did not appeal to me so had lemon on the salad. .25 cups of lowfat cottage cheese, a few slices of orange.
Dinner was late: a cheese plate of hard cheeses, approximately 3 ounces. Mixed "stir fried in water" veggies with 1 egg and 2 egg whites, 2 cups of blueberries. It clocked in at about 1000 calories.
I was not hungry for more.

I just woke up and could not eat if you paid me. Maybe because dinner was late, and also now I am in the habit of not eating until after a walk, etc. at 10:30. I know that I am suppose to eat when hungry, but I feel a lot of anxiety about eating and am not sure what to eat in the no sugar no starch land.

Could you please give me some advice? Is it normal to not be hungry? How many calories should I be eating and not gain weight? I am worried that I will tank my metabolism. Thank you for your help.

    Best Wishes,
    RK

You are in danger of slowing your metabolism down by restricting the way you are now. 1500 is about the minimum to keep your metabolism revved, and most can eat alot more than that in P3.

It does sound like your fear is the controlling factor. And it seems like you are afraid of fats, which is a big mistake in P3. After the long time in P2, your body is crying out for those. You need more good fats.

Try sliced avocado with your eggs, and use whole eggs instead of just eggwhites. Stir fry your veggies in some olive oil. Use full fat or at least 2% cottage cheese. (Daisy brand is awesome) If your appetite and capacity seem low, then use that minimal appetite to get good fats in. Make some coconut oil candy, have a steak, bake some chicken thighs with the skin on, etc. Put butter on your veggies. It doesn't have to be large amounts, a tsp or two is sufficient.

If you can't eat in the morning, could you stir some collagen into your coffee? Or have a cup of bone broth? Or a protein shake? Putting off breakfast can slow your metabolism for the whole day.

Leez thank you for your invaluable help. I just had some raw pumpkin seeds here in the grocery store. I will start eating more fat.

I know itís my anxiety about this That is making me not hungry. Anxiety is my best weight-loss Aid ha ha.

How many calories do you think one can eat in P3? I think if I had a number it would help me. Thank you again.

    Warmly,
    RK

I know its hard to trust the process, but it will pay off. Most of us tend to over think things, but its really all just about fueling your body with quality foods to match your energy needs.

The best thing is to go by hunger and satisfaction signals. In other words eat freely, but stop when satisfied, not full or stuffed, and let calories sort out for themselves. Learning to recognize the subtleties of hunger and satisfaction signals does take practice, but it is worth learning. You might find this essay I wrote on the subject of help:
    https://hcgdietinfo.com/how-to-know-...-you-are-full/

I tracked calores a couple of times during each P3, and found my comfort level was between 1700 and 1900 calories, but many others have reported they eat 2200-2500 calories during P3 without gaining. (And some eat even more.) I can't really give you a number because everyones rate of burn is individual to them and mitigating factors of stature, age, hormonal balance and activity levels. But if you continue at lower than 1500, you will almost certainly slow your metabolism to a crawl, so aim for that at the very least.

    Thank you Leez!

Today was an awful day and your feed back was truly a bright spot. Things are difficult for me. My Dad is in a short term care facility and is doing better after pneumonia and being over medicated in the hospital. Then today my mom got in a car accident. Fortunately she has only minor injuries but My anxiety level is through the roof. I am going to take your advice to heart and try tomorrow to get my calories up. I sincerely appreciate your input and will look at your other post. The problem is my issue (for once) is not over eating. I am just not hungry. At first I thought it was a perhaps normal carryover from P2– my stomach may be not use to a lot of food, etc. but since it is now day 7 that no longer feels valid.

Tomorrow I will concentrate on healthy fats and bacon for breakfast!

Thank you for your input and please let me know if anything else springs to mind.

    Warmly,

Sorry you are going through a difficult time. Stress and anxiety can mess with your hormones, your sleep, everything really.

Since you don't have much hunger, you could try to eat a small amount of something every 3-4 hours. Mini-meals might be more palatable until things calm down. An epsom salt soak before bed may help you relax some.

I love bacon and avocado for breakfast in P3. Bacon is magic. It might just open up your appetite again. ^_^

    Thanks Leez!

Gosh, I really don't know how I would manage without your support. I am so grateful. I also just read your blog post "Guidelines for a Successful P3". I found it quite by accident. Is there a way to see your other blog posts that may be helpful? I looked under best blogs tabs and most popular blogs and can't seem to find you! I tried subscribing to your blog but I think that will only show new entries.

Is no hunger/no appetite in P3 very unusual or a common experience? I have never had this before.

IN other news, I increased my calories yesterday with the fats we discussed to 1200 calories ( wanted it higher but it was all I could get down after another day in the Emergency Room) and I am down another .6 today. I know. Where were these drops in weight in P2???? I am making bacon and going to have some and an avocado and eggs right now. Going to try to eat way more today. Just ate 3 strips of bacon, half an avocado and a small burger. 400 calories. so working on it. Especially now before I deal with parents.

    Thank you again!

    Have a lovely day
    RK

Thanks for all your help. I will keep you updated. Thank you so much for your support and answers as I slog through here.

I'm glad you are making some progress. Its not a usual thing to have no hunger in P3, but it seems to me your issue is related to the current stresses you are experiencing. All you can do is the best you can do. You'll get through it and be ok.

    Leez,

Just so grateful for your help and wisdom. I have been eating more. An avocado a day and bacon. Wow I have never been so not hungry and I agree it's all anxiety. I could not get a break to eat dinner until 10:00 PM. I am tracking calories just to try to get it higher. Hope you have a great day. thank you so much.

    Good Morning Leez,

Strange day. I woke up really ravenously hungry and ate a lot of cheese, eggs, bacon, an avocado, and some sunflower seeds. 15 minutes after eating all this I feel really uncomfortable and over full. Honestly I was trying to follow fullness signals and just did not feel overly full and stuffed to the gills until 15 minutes after I stopped. I have been eating much more and my weight has been steady and solid. (Yes I am shocked by that every time I step on the scale ha ha). Today is the first day I was just really super hungry. Do you think this will be ok? Have I ruined things by overeating? Will my metabolism recover? I can't imagine eating anything else until late afternoon (or ever again I am so stuffed ha ha), but right now i wonder if I will ever stop feeling uncomfortably full.

Thank you for answering! Hope you are having a fun weekend.

    Warm Regards,
    RK

Yes, even if you decide to trust the process, it is still amazing to realize that it works.

You'll be fine. Just don't eat again until you are hungry. If you take stock of the amount you ate, I would imagine it isn't really all that much---just a bit more volume than you have been eating. Volume is a fairly important metric. We tend to eat about the same volume daily, but the calorie load can be wildly different according to what foods we choose. Just something to be aware of.

As to whether your metabolism will recover. It might not need recovery. You may have needed that food injection to feed your metabolism. Try not to overthink. You were extra hungry. You ate, and you made good choices.

While learning satisfaction signals, you might try eating what you think is a normal portion, and then waiting 10-15 minutes. If you still want more at that point, then eat more. It takes 10-15 minutes for the chemistry to kick in and make its way to the brain, so taking a pause can help you figure it out.

    Good Morning Leez,

I am having a bit of panic as I am up a whole pound! Yesterday was also the day I tried nuts which may have been too much. Also, I was really hungry where as today I am again not that hungry at all. I am sure I will be hungry later in the day as sometimes I just donít feel like breakfast. My plan for today is no more nuts. Have a cup of coffee now to just have some thing. I think my best plan is to wait until I am hungry to eat. Then Iím going to do your suggestions about volume and also to eat a normal portion and wait 15 minutes and see if I am hungry. Using your blog post ideas I want to train myself to eat to satisfaction not that overstuffed feeling I had yesterday, .And quite frankly used to have frequently before this last round. What do you think of that plan? Do you agree I should not eat if I am not hungry?

Thank you so much for yesterdayĎs excellent advice. Oh my goodness that is so interesting about volume. It makes complete sense. I am going to try your technique today of eating a normal portion and then waiting 15 minutes. Today is P3 day 12....

    Have a wonderful Sunday!
    Warmly,
    RK
