    P3 & synthyroid?

Hi, I'm in p3 week 2 and may have to start on a thyroid med. I'm concerned about how this will affect my weight loss..does anyone have experience with this?

There is no reason you can't delay starting thyroid treatment until after you are finished with P2. It is not a good idea to test thyroid or add hormones while in the midst of the HCG treatment.

If you had thyroid testing after starting HCG, your results are not accurate. If treatment was prescribed based on these tests, it could be the wrong dose. HCG tends to boost thyroid function. Any further testing should be done at least 6 weeks after ending HCG.

If at that point, you still test to need synthroid, ask your doctor about adding T3 (cytomel) along with the synthroid. Synthroid is only T4, and you need both. Better yet, ask about natural dessicated thyroid instead of the synthroid. It contains both T4 and T3. The current good brand names are Armour and NP Thyroid by Acella. People tend to do better on the natural formulas, but doctors will prescribe the synthetic on unless you ask.

Thanks so much for this, Leez. I was scheduled for my 6-week thyroid recheck this Friday, with more than a week of P2 still to go. I double checked with the doctor's office and they confirmed that I shouldn't get any bloodwork of any kind done while still on the VLCD. I wouldn't have even thought to check had you not posted about this, so I really appreciate it!

ps--the stevia you recommended is great, too! The sample I ordered is enough to last me a while, but I'll likely purchase more once it's gone. THANK YOU!!
