Lots of people eat fruit in P3 and Grammy recommends it.

I do not eat fruit in P3 because I think it is too high in sugar. I also do not like fruit and see no reason to punish myself by having to gag it down when I have so many other lovely foods to choose from.

I think people who are having trouble stabilizing or are gaining while eating completely clean should look at their fruit consumption. Some people eat a lot of fruit or eat a lot of higher sugar fruit and it can cause gains. Berries are a good fruit choice for P3 if you're going to eat it.

So during this phase we need to stay under 2 grams of sugar right? Are we looking at carbs also? Somewhere I read that you can also go to the atkins Maintenance Phase diet in phase 3 but I'm not sure which phase of the atkins because in phase 4 they are adding in potatoes... I just want to be super clear.. and not making any mistakes because I've worked hard for what I've lost! I just have 4 more days of the HCG shots and then go into phase 3 and just want to be prepared.
Is this phase more like I'm eating the same foods but increasing amounts and also adding fats? Can I use the almond flour or coconut flour? Almond or coconut milk (unsweetened of course)... do I look at the carbs? Any advice you can give would be most appreciated!

Also.... can I drink wine? I read that I could have a glass of wine. I'm assuming it needs to be red and not white? Thanks in advance :-)

Yes you can have wine in P3. Here is what the protocol says about it:

If no carbohydrates [meaning starches] whatsoever are eaten, fats can be indulged in somewhat more liberally and even small quantities of alcohol, such as a glass of wine with meals, does no harm....
As you can see, there is no distinction made between red and white. In 1950's Italy, it would likely have been red, but its not specified. So drink whichever you wish. Some people consider the glass of wine as a sub for one of the fruits they would eat during a normal P3 day.

Is the goal to try and not take in any carbs except from veggies and the low glycemic fruits? I'm wondering when I look at mayonnaise for instance - it doesn't even list sugar in the nutritional labeling, but deep in the ingredients I see it listed. It says "not a significant source of..... sugars..... so maybe that means it must be
    <1 gram of sugar?
I also see modified potato starch listed in the Hellmans olive oil mayonnaise...
however the total carbs <1. Is this ok for me to have in Phase 3?
I'm sorry I'm being so specific - I just don't want to mess up. So far I'm down over 22 lbs and I am so thrilled.. and I want to keep eating right! thank you again in advance! :-)

P3 is not low carb. It is low starch and low sugar. That messes a lot of people up who think it should be some kind of keto program.

If total carbs (from starch) or added sugars is listed as less than 1%, then it should be fine for P3. You are going to get all kinds of additives in processed food. They may or may not affect you. Making your own mayo is safer, but not everyone is willing to make that kind of effort, so you do the best you can.

    Minimum caloric requirement

Question about Phase 3...I know it says to eat a minimum of 1500 calories, but for those who are short and/or small, our RMR (resting metabolic rate) may be less than that. I recently had an RMR/metabolic test (you sit for 15 min with a crazy mask attached to your face that measures your actual metabolic rate) and it shows that my RMR (if sedentary) is 1360 calories a day. Should I aim to stay around there in order to maintain?

There is no formula that works for everyone. The 1500 calorie minimum is suggested to impress on you that you have to eat enough in P3 to stabilize your lower setpoint. Its more important that you eat enough to be satisfied in P3. If that means going over your "number" then its ok during those 3 weeks. You will find you can eat well over the calculated calories for metabolic rate during P3 and the body just handles it. Please don't count calories in P3. You want to keep the metabolic fire going that HCG has established for you in P2. You can drop back calories after those 21 days if you find you need to.

However it is important not to forcefeed, or eat past that satisfaction point. P3 is an important time to really tune into hunger and satisfaction signals, so that you can maintain more easily afterwards.

Hi Leez! Question for you - I just bought the THM book and it makes a lot of sense to me, especially coming from keto (that did not work for me even after 2 years of it). Would this be a good approach for phase 3, if I leave out the starches? What I mean is - applying the principle of THM S and E meals, but with P3 approved foods?
