Btw How are you feeling, I take it you ae now in self isolation? In SA it is 2 weeks even for just being in contact with a person who tested positive...Two of my friends has it and really struggled.... both well now
Slowly but surely getting better--thank you! Tomorrow my quarantine lifts, but I'm in no hurry. Just looking forward to going for a walk in the woods. The four walls of my apartment have begun closing in. . . .

And yes, I'm so curious about P3 and P4 and very much want to set myself up for long term success!

So... very excited to received my order for My "calorie counter" this morning....

Only problem.... Carbohydrate counter duh!! But I can calculate and write it in....
What I like about this one it is based on South African Products....
May get another one... will think about it....

Will also look into getting a decent protein powder as P2 has me on a strict protocol... and if in P3 I do not have specific items on my list, I may fall back into bad habits and forget to eat.... so thinking of making my mid morning snack a Protein shake.... will look see this weekend

Have you ever used mct oil? I found that was a great way to help me keep calories up without hurting my gallbladder.
I found out the hard way that you need to start with little amounts and work your way up. I swear itís like a laxative in high doses.

I used it in smoothies and bulletproof coffee. Iím sure there are many other uses.
For cooking and baking I used coconut oil or grape seed oil

You can make a lovely frothed coffee with a tsp each of MCT oil and regular unflavored gelatin. Its a good way to get some MCT in, especially if you are dairy free. You don't want to cook with MCT, so smoothies and salad dressings are good ways to incorporate it. It is completely flavor-less.

One of the great things about MCT is that it is metabolized quickly for energy. So you may feel warm for a bit after consuming it. And like Maggie said, too much too quickly can have a laxative effect. 1 tsp should be fine as a tolerance test, but some might have to start even lower. I have not ever had that effect even from using a couple Tblsp, so you may not have any reaction at all.

When I purchase oil-based supplements, I try to find one that uses MCT as the base oil, because that signifies a high quality supplement.

Iíve been looking into gelatin. What brand do you recommend. Iíve only ever used knox brand to make gummies. Iíve been looking at Great Lakes (I believe thatís the name).

I use Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides rather than gelatin. It's tasteless and odorless and doesn't congeal. It's also available at Costco and provides good protein and nutrients.

You can use either gelatin or collagen hydrosylate (like the Vital Proteins brand mentioned) in coffee.

Gelatin tends to be less expensive, and it adds a bit of "body" to the coffee that I think is nice.

If you are buying either one, the best brands are from grassfed cows.

Great Lakes is probably the best known brand for quality gelatins. I use a lot of collagen (I use this instead of protein powders) and buy mine in 5 pound boxes from Custom Collagen to get the best price. For regular gelatin, I just look for the best price on Amazon for something that is grassfed.

OK girls... Interseting topic here, we are discussing
MCT and Gelatine and ways in which to use it.... this is new to me, as I generally hope to follow P3 as if it would be my new normal... but I guess part of that new normal is finding healthy ingredients to add to my new normal.....

However, I may offend some of you by saying that Bulleproof coffee sounds vile!! why on earth would I add butter to my coffee?...at worst I am not a huge coffee fan and it sounds like the Bulletproof coffee is like 2 TBS of Coffee for one cup..... My gallbladder will shut down on the spot! HaHa..... I do my regular coffee with a level teaspon of granules...and some makes are even to strong for me.... My sugar free Cappucinno I have to make in a 350ml cup so it is not too strong for me..... so I guess bulletproof coffee will not be on my P3 Menu....

So talk to me about other helpful uses for MCT Oils....
I, as a rule try to cook as fat free as possible.... either non-stick spray or my air fryer....but when a food calls for fat I would use coconut oil... or is some cases where it is sacriledge to use anything but butter

    Then Gelatine....
I remember before chemo my mails were so soft it would fold over totally...after chemo I have the strongest nails imaginable.... so other than some good properties.... where and how would you incorporate Gelatine that is not a normal run-of-the-mill food grade gelatine which I would use in Mousses and Jellies...? I like having a few servings of sugar free or fruit jellies in teh fridge as a rule for when I feel like something sweet

If you incorporate these things in P3.... do you continue on P4 and into the rest of your time after maintenance?

I was totally grossed out by the thought of bulletproof coffee too. Like why would I drink butter. But when itís whipped up itís like a nice latte. My husband hates the taste of coffee. He has high levels of calcium in his body and his specialist said to drink coffee because it will help take calcium out of him. I started by making him bulletproof coffee. No sugar. He loves it but never knew what it was. Haha. He evolved into drinking coffee with the sugar and chemical filled coffee creamers. Drinking one cup of coffee a day helped bring his levels of calcium down from dangerous to top of normal.
Looking forward to hearing how people use gelatin. I personally donít use sugar free jello because of the dye and aspartame. But Iíve used gelatin and juice and flavouring to make gummies. they were good... no dye no sugar. My little guy is still too young to eat gummies but Iíll be making him some in the future.
