An Experiment: So Far, So Good (Vitamin C)

    Hi all.

So, I've been playing around with several approaches to ensuring inflammatory responses don't plague me now, or in the future. The vitamin C discovery seems to be the best bet (citing Dr. Linus Pauling's research here).....and the cheapest!

Here is a link to an article that cites research (in layman's terms) on vitamin C and how it helps reduce the effects of chronic inflammation...but more importantly, how it helps the immune system kick cancer to the curb: http://acam.typepad.com/blog/2011/05...treatment.html

Also: you'll note that 1 gram daily is recommended to cure the common cold in people. As chronic inflammation may require that amount or more, I'm currently taking 2 grams of vitamin C. The beautiful thing: you can't overdose on vitamin C (it's water soluble). So my body will just absorb as much as it can through my digestive tract and then excrete the rest.

I am, of course, NOT a medical professional. But my reading stuff is where I get ideas from, and then I try it out on myself. I DO NOT recommend anyone else eating various herbs and weird remedies like I have....as I've eaten a couple that just made me feel icky. Nothing life-threatening, mind you....but....blech.

SO, in my experience, vitamin C has more chance than other supplements of safely offsetting inflammatory responses.

I'll keep posting more articles on the stuff I mention as I go along.

    Wanna Stop Counting and Weighing?

    HI all.

So, after all this great success here, of so many people...I'm thinking that at a certain point, we essentially all throw away the trackers and stop weighing our food. It's happened to me, and I'm stable.

The point at what this happens, though, is different for everyone. Nonetheless, tracking and weighing (we've done it for all of P2, and now with PCDS, here too in P3) has become a necessary evil.

So how should you know if you can stop messing around with calories and ratios and whatnot?

    7 DAYS
You'll be able to stop tracking after you have stabilized for 7 days straight. That means you've fluctuated a little. It's NORMAL to go up a little, down a little, but always "hover" around the same weight. And, what's "little"? It's within a lb of the same weight....so if I'm at 122.6, and go up to 123.6 one day, but come back down to 122.8, then go up to 123.0, then down to 122.2, and so forth, I'm within stable range...because each of those numbers are ALWAYS within 1 lb of my LIW.

SOME people, though, see the scale go UP and then stay there. It may EVEN be over 2 lbs LIW/LDW. Is that okay? Well, think of it this way: stabilization depends on not only your hypothalamus, but also your thyroid and pancreas. AND...it may even depend on something else many people don't think of: your dermal fat.

If you've lost dermal fat (gone into starvation mode inadvertently) in P2, there is a theory out there in the forums that if you've been starving at anytime in P2, your body remembers that. And that it wants to get it back.

DO YOU LET IT STAY UP THERE?
Personally, if that was ever the case, and my body had a choice between stabilizing 2.5 lbs above LIW and staying there through many caloric disasters in the future, versus me perpetually trying to lose weight to get those 2.5 lbs off....I'd stick with keeping them there and remaining stable.

LET YOUR HUNGER BE YOUR GUIDE
Your hunger, and snacking throughout the day, may be the key to keeping a seemingly FOREVER unstable weight low. If you get hungry, for instance, and your next meal is an hour and a half away...give into that hunger! Just MAKE SURE you have something healthy within reach.

Since entering P4 I've been eating walnuts (unsalted -- they're the kind that are used in cooking) whenever I'm between big meals and need to make sure my body keeps the metabolic fires stoked.

Snacking may be the salvation many are looking for, after PCDS, and after they've confidently stabilized. To keep the stabilization....snacking seems to have helped me ENORMOUSLY.

If anyone has any questions about these ideas/results, feel free to PM me with any immediate, time-sensitive questions; it'll get my attention faster than a post here.

AW: The Ultimate P3 Correction Day: I Lost 2.6 lbs on a Chicken Thigh Day!!!!!!!!!!

Lilies, was the dinner very late. Did ve a lot of salt? I d eat clean & drink a lot of water for a day or 2 then see how it goes. If u don't drop back I d do a cd/ pcds round.

Melanie, a bit more veggies would be good. Avocados are great too. And u can add some berries if u need more carbs.

Am down 0.6 of the 2# today. Will try to stick to clean eating as much as possible while visiting my friend & probably do a cd on Fri.

Gonnaloseit, vitamin C is great. Selenium is also a life saver for anyone with thyroid issues. Ve the feeling that it really helped me. 200 mcg daily is recommended for a sluggish thyroid.

Happy stabilizing to all of u.

    Hi sweet lilies!

When you say it was within your calorie limit, "not sedentary but active"...you mean your second calclulated caloric limit? You went over the sedentary calories, right?

Let's do this. Post which PCDS day this is, and how many calories you ate. Also take a look at your protein limit....how much protein did you eat? How many calories were in that meal, too?

And, as Pensee said....let us know how much salt was in stuff, and how late you ate. Also, yep -- her advice to "eat clean" (meaning no processed foods, no junk, P2 foods are good, still eat fats like we have been though, no fruit, etc.) and remember to drink your water is good.

And, you're up 2 lbs...does that mean you're still 2 lbs away from LIW, or that you gained 2 lbs?

Have a good morning, dear! This is fixable. You'll be okay. Just let us know all that stuff, and we'll see what we can do to help you.

Pensee....GLAD to see you're dropping again! WOO HOO!

I will look into the selenium; great post! Thanks for that. I personally LOVE brazil nuts, and they have a good amt of selenium....perhaps I love them FOR their selenium....lol. Now that I'm in P4, I think I'll look into working them in.

I'll start looking for good selenium supplements (which brands are best). If you can recommend one, let me know!

Brazil nuts, yum. Haven't tried them yet though.

Brands here r so different from the ones in the US. I went for a slow release formula (since I am taking a rather high dose, so hoping for better absorption/utilization this way) from one if the local pharma companies.

    Cool!

Slow release sounds appropriate. I like that! Continual supply as the day goes on. NICE!

What else do you find to be a benefit with selenium, dear Pensee? I'm googling it today, but I'd love to hear your personal experience with it (which for me, is the ultimate validation something works/doesn't work). What would you tell everyone you noticed improved FIRST? Energy level? Lack of hair falling out (oh Lord -- that used to happen to me more than it does after hCG...yaaay, hypothyroidism, blah), better memory? Something else? Do let us know the onset of improvement in ___ issues, and how much improvement you've seen!

    Thanks for mentioning the selenium.

Melanie, don't know abt pcds & when to start p2. But I am a bit jealous. Lol. U r doing awesome.
Is there a way u can extend ur round to 30d? According to Grammy rounds shorter than 30d make stabilization extra hard afterwards. U can do the last bit with 800 - 1000 cal (after reaching ur goal).

    Lilies, keeping my fingers crossed.

Gonnaloseit, I m also taking vitamin d & natural vitamin e (not the alpha-tocopherol crap). So I can't b 100% sure It's from selenium, but It's the only new supplement for me. The others I ve been taking for quite some time.
Started it abt 4 weeks ago. Didn't notice any change in my hair yet, but my nails were extremely brittle & that definitely improved. I also get out of bed much easier in the a.m. and am not so tired during the day, even with that silly cold. I also think that it improved my ability to focus for longer periods of time. I do feel better in general.
Let's see what my blood tests say tomorrow.

    Good night.
