Don't want to go paleo..... Do YOU eat carbs on P4?

I see a lot of people here who plan on sticking to a paleo diet after hcg and people seem to have some success with maintaining their weight on that. I've looked into it and just don't think that's the diet for me. I don't think I'm leptin resistant and all my adult life I've had trouble digesting a lot of meat and fat. I'm starting to think it's due to low digestive acid. I've never really had a problem with sugar or carbs. I'm not addicted to either and I never feel the need to binge. Carbs and sugar actually help alleviate some of my depression because of the effects they have on serotonin.
So I'm interested in hearing some stories from people who eat a more balanced diet that includes sugar and carbs and are able to keep the weight off.....

You start adding carbs and sugar on P4...slowly and one at a time to check for food sensitivities as well. Also, research 5HTP supplement to see if that would be beneficial for you.

I know that's when you're supposed to start adding back in sugar and carbs but most people seem to stick to P3. I'm looking for people who have added those things back and maintained successfully.

I stick with p3 until I am due for another round but my husband did a round with me this last time and he has entered into p4, it's only been a couple weeks but he's 4lbs under LIW and eating sugar, breads, oats ect. It's more portion/quality control really. He also had no food sensitivities too which I am sure played in huge factor. It can be done successfully. When you do add breads ect.. find the stuff with the least ingredients in it or make your own. Try to avoid store bought bread that has anything more than flour, water, yeast, in it. Also keep away from white flours and sugar, the less processed the better you will be.

    Hope that helps some

That does help to know. I'm not planning on doing another round and don't anticipate having any food allergy issues. I'm hoping I can maintain by doing the t-tapp exercises and keeping my calories at a good maintenance level. At least, that's the plan for now!

I ate carbs I wasn't allergic to (so no wheat for me) after Round 1 and maintained my loss for 7 months (until I did a second round ... don't get me started on the results of that nightmare). I ate rice, sweet potatoes (even as fries), desserts (mostly dark chocolate bars), and all fruits/veggies with no issues. It was wonderful! This round, that's apparently not an option, as I can't so much as look at a strawberry without gaining. So you'll just have to try it and see how your body responds!
    Round 1 (30-day course Nov-Dec 2011):
    Post-Load Weight: 135.5
    Ending Weight: 119
**Stabilized at 122 for 7 months, ate anything I wanted**

    Round 2 (30-day course August 2012):
Post-Load Weight: 126.8 (I had maintained 122 until I went to Italy in June and had ankle surgery in July)
    Ending Weight: 111.8
**Current Weight: 117 (My doctor failed me. I spent the first 3 weeks of P2 starving and lost dermal fat. I am angry.)**

    I'm 5'0, 35 years old, and now a size 2/4 petite.

I eat carbs, including some sugar on P4/maintenance. I never had any intention of following a low carb or a paleo or primal diet. They all sound just horrible to me, and I think they are unhealthy for long-term eating (my opinion, and I'm entitled to it). I gradually added in the carbs in P4, starting with 1/2 serving the first day. I eat several servings of starches each day, now. I eat sugar, but not every day, and I try to stick to honey, succanat, maple syrup and sugars like that. I lost weight when I added carbs my first round. My other rounds, I don't remember losing, but I didn't gain from them. I've been eating nothing but starchy junk and sugar for the past several days and I've lost about 4 lbs.

I just think it depends on your body. My body loves starch. Some people's bodies hate it.

That's interesting to me, because I just started my first P4. I decided not to do another hcg round until January (though I have a couple more weeks to change my mind) so I want to eat normally and maintain for about 2.5 months. Since I started adding back starches (and one dessert on my birthday Friday) I have rapidly lost 3 pounds. 3 pounds in 3 days is not normal for me, I can't usually even lose that in a week. I stayed pretty much the same all of p3, except for the first day gain. I did not enjoy the low carb eating, and had digestive upset the whole 3 weeks from too much meat (for my body).

I'm trying to figure out if this is the consequence of a higher metabolism, or if I'm eating too little. I don't want to lose much without hcg, because as we all know that just causes lower metabolism and loss of structural fat in the long run.

    Round 1(9/12) 23 pounds in 30 days! Round 2(1/13) 19.3 pounds in 23 days! Round 3(3/13) 20.5 pounds in 28 days!
Back for Round Four: The Mulligan (Week 1 released 6 pounds! Week 2 released 5.2 pounds!)

Man, I am so glad to hear that! I have always eaten a lot of carbs and sugar (in moderation) and I've done fine on them. It's meat and fat that throw my digestive system out of whack. Carbs fill me up more and boost my serotonin levels (I have depression). But so much negative stuff has been out about carbs in the last years and everyone's going paleo and it's starting to drive me crazy. I'm glad to know there ARE others out there like me! Ok, I think I'm going to relax now and not fret that I won't be able to add carbs back in P4. And I would love it if I lost more weight, like you guys. It's just my gut feeling.....I'm a carb lady!

This is interesting to me because just today I attended a seminar by an anti-aging doctor who spoke at length about this. There's a gene that governs whether you are a fat burner or a carbs burner. If you get a double of this gene, you should be a vegetarian because you just can't process fats. On the other end of the spectrum, you should be a fat eater because you don't burn carbs well. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle where 30% fat is about right. There's a simple blood test to determine this. I could be remembering this wrong, but I think the test is for APO-E. The point is that we are all different and what works for me may not work for you.

That is so interesting, I have been in PH4 for a few days, but during P3 I added very small amounts of carbs/sugar, no problems. In fact yesterday I ate fries and a sundae, and lost .6 lbs. I think there are some people that can tolerate carbs/sugar better. I don't want to become so intolerant that I can't eat it at all (and I don't mean allergies), I too become heavier or gain more with more heavy proteins like beef (or fatty/cured meats).

I think there is something to be said about reading your body, I think everyone has a general understanding of what works and what doesn't. I went a little rogue with HCG and I'm glad, because I think it has allowed me little carbs here and there without affecting my weight as well as my sanity!!!!

I tolerated carbs fine in p4 for about 5 months. Then I drank wine 3 times in a week and a half and gained weight...so now I know that wine no longer agrees with me..but the rest was okay.

Goal this round 160: losses include loading day 1 = vcld 1
