Thread: Fast Metabolism Diet FMD for P4

  1. #13
There are a couple of very active Facebook groups for FMD. Totally check them out....lots of recipes, etc. I hate using FB for that, because you can't search threads.....so the same questions are over and over again but the people are nice.

I liked FMD because it helped my carb sensitivity. I did not lose well on it, but I did stop gaining (which I was for no reason). I decided to do REAL HCG (injections) and then go back to FMD when I am done.

FMD is very heavy on the food prep and food weirdness.....but if you have a Trader Joes' or Whole Foods near: great. I live in the middle of a cornfield and the nearest Whole Foods is 2.5 hours away. :-)

I hate that the food list alters every two days, it's crazy to try to remember you can have broccoli on Phase 1 but not Phase 3. I did like the variety and wholesomeness of the foods. I bought a good blender and smoothies were my new best friend.

Good luck! I plan to continue on HCG and see if it works to lose weight (I am a slow loser)....and then do HCG Phase 3 then FMD.

ps THey recommend something called Dandy for coffee substitute. I don't do coffee so it wasn't an issue for me.

Thanks for the thoughts, Nb. I'll check out the FB groups for some recipes.

That's exactly why I'm doing it. I've been successful at keeping in my window after the last round, but only with lots of correction days and a very restricted carb list.

I'm fortunate to be in a large metropolis where I have both Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, and even a small health store, a farmer's market, and Costco a few blocks from me. I can find pretty much anything I look for. I'm actually having fun with the food prep. The app helps A LOT. I dont' think I would be able to keep it all straight with lists and charts. I love that in the app, only the options for that phase are included. That makes it easy.

I'm not counting on weight loss from FMD (although that would be nice) but I'm encouraged to hear that you had success with it in not continuing to gain.

All the best in your HCG round. HCG is the only thing that has worked for me when everything else no longer did. I'll do it again if I have to, but I'd rather not. P3 is so difficult for me.

I'm interested in trying some of the other coffee subs. I haven't seen Dandy except online, so I think I'll try the Cafix next. I'm intrigued that it includes beetroot.

Leez - Good look with the FMD. Im very curious to see your results. Im having areally hard maintaining the weight this round and is driving me crazy that I dont know if its due to food sensitivity or carbs. I been eating low carb before HCG and phase 3 this round.
I want to do either THE PLAN or the FMD , but Im undecided . I just started ready THE PLAN.
    My Info:

    Phase3 07/11/14 LIW = 136.8[/B]
    Phase4 08/04/14 136.4

Yes, is it food sensitivity or carbs? I have that same question. I think doing FMD may show me the answer. Here's my thinking on this: If I can eat all these starchy items and be ok, then maybe the answer lies in the items that have been omitted from the FMD food lists. (I'm also avoiding things I know are problems for me like eggs, almonds and turkey.) At that point, the Plan might be the thing to figure out the rest. I've been vascillating over whether to weigh every day or not, but I decided it would make me crazy not to.

This morning, I was up .4. I think that's ok considering that the day before I started FMD was a steak day, plus the sheer volume of food I ate yesterday. I'm still in my window for now.

hmm. Talking scale reports I've gained another POUND. What? Hopefully days 3 & 4 will take care of that, but that seems like a lot. And it makes me anxious that I'm above my 2 pound window.

Embarking on the second phase now. Knowing I will be eating meat all day long, I decided to do a protein drink for breakfast with pea protein, lots of baby spinach, kale and some cocoa and added some xylitol and vanilla. I checked Hayley's meal replacement for Phase2 and that's basically what is in it. (Except for the cocoa.) Well. It was vile. I choked it down and decided to never do that again! Tomorrow, I will be dipping chicken sausage nuggets (my own recipe) in some rhubarb compote instead. .

I certainly hope I make better choices the rest of today--haha!

Edit: Lunch was a great improvement. I am officially in love with stewed rhubarb. It was great for dipping my chicken tenders in, and when spread on a slice of jimaca--it was like eating a crisp, tart apple. Rhubarb is defninitely going to make phase2 menus not only bearable, but enjoyable.

If I get meat-ed out on phase2 later in the 28 days, maybe I'll try the protein smoothie again, but with rhubarb instead of the cocoa. That might be more pleasant

Starting day 4-- the 2nd day of part2. (I'm going to call the phases of this program "parts" so it doesn't get confused with HCG phases)

Scale says..... DOWN 2 POUNDS. 150.6 I like it. This is a half pound below where I started FMD, and LIW is now back in sight.

I learned today that it is more peaceful to get your breakfasts prepared the night before. Made mine fresh today and just barely made the 1/2 hour rule. I don't like to have to be so focused when I haven't really even come to consciousness yet. So that's a lesson learned.

I'll probably repeat the rest of my menu from yesterday. I made a stuffed pepper for dinner last night and did an extra one for tonight's dinner, and will be dipping into my stewed rhubarb all day. This part2 is not really all that bad. Maybe it would seem worse if I had already not been so restricted before starting. But to me, it beats the heck out of HCG high protein days, even with no fat allowed.

Also, no real caffeine withdrawal problems. That surprises me, because I suck down coffee all day long, and have done so for years. A little fatigue at first, and some thigh muscle achiness that started yesterday, but very mild. But then coffee, caffeinated or otherwise, has never really affected my sleep or caused any other problems I know of. So maybe I'm just one of those people that aren't that sensitive to it. I'll be interested to find out if cutting it out changes my blood pressure numbers or affects my digestion. Too early to tell.

haha! I usually say the same thing. I love my coffee. I dunno....I decided to at least give de-coffee-ing a try. I think I was willing to try because I really don't like coffee without cream in it, so I would be compromising anyway. If the substitute had been really bad, or if I had bad withdrawal, I was going to go back to the real thing in a minute. But I found the substitute pleasant (without the need for cream) and I feel fine, so I think I'll continue.

No reason not to! I drink MCT oil in my coffee and I continued on FMD. I didn't change my coffee at all and I still did well with it. I don't believe her rationale for it at all. Too many studies prove differently.

I tend to agree with you. I see coffee as a special gift from God. Although its interesting you can do the MCT oil on the low fat days of FMD. Did you limit that in any way?

My doctor says I should give up caffeine for hormonal reasons, but I've been resisting. One of the things I'm watching for during FMD is just what benefits (if any) I get from decaffeinating. If I see nothing, then that further strengthens my position that caffeine is not a big problem for me.

Day 5 report: After the second day of part2.... I'm down another 1.6 pounds to 149. That's pretty amazing, considering I was eating all day long yesterday. I didn't miss fruit at all, because I made a big batch of xylitol-sweetened rhubarb and ate it with everything! I dipped my meats in it, I spread it on jicama and cucumber slices, I ate it for dessert. Next part2, I'm going to try it with pea protein and baby spinach in a breakfast smoothie so I have at least one meatless meal. I found out you can use pectin on FMD, so I'll thicken the smoothie with a tiny bit of that.

I wonder if I'll gain that back over the next three days. I'm planning to skip the dinner starch portion in hopes I don't have a big yo-yo regain.

I always gained on Phase 3 of FMD. Which is so weird since that's how I typically eat. I gave up coffee all that time because of my naturopath's insistence too. It did absolutely nothing for me. There are just too many studies out now that show it's actually beneficial. I'm a little jaded about people saying it's bad for you. I don't buy it at all. On the low fat days of FMD, I only used 1tsp of MCT oil in my coffee and it worked just fine.

I'm so glad you said that you gained on Part3, because I gained 2 pounds after the first day of it. Not the best news, but I'm still a tiny bit under my starting weight. I felt too full yesterday after dinner, and so I suspected this would be the outcome. I hope its just normal fluctuation for week one and not some food sensitivity. I made cashew cream to go with my morning oats, and oats & cashews are things I hadn't tested yet this P3. (Although I've not ever had an issue with them before.)

I think it is weird too. Because it's a lot more conservative than my P3 meal choices. But maybe because you flush a bunch of water on part2, it is inevitable that some comes back.

I discovered Kelp Noodles Kind of like miracle noodles, only delightfully crunchy. (Think bean sprout crunchy without the funkiness.) They are great for cold salads and seaweed is on the vegetable list, so I'll be using these a bunch. Not terribly pricey either. My health store had them for a little over $3 a bag.
