    Starting the I-BURN today

For the next 3 days, I'll be doing the I-BURN.

I gained another 2 pounds over the last 2 days of eating things that were previously safe for me, so I don't know what exactly is going on, but I sure hope I-BURN can help get things back to normal again. I'm now 3 pounds over the top of my window.

So far, the program is living up to its name.... I just had the tea, and it does burn! (there's some cayenne in it). Its not unpleasant, but there is a lot of celery seed in it, which is a flavor I'm not too fond of, and very lemony. The breakfast shake is is good, but also very sour from cranberries and limes. I'm rather glad that this is a short intensive. This is a lot of sour.

My soup is still cooking, so no report on that yet but I'll update later.

Glad to hear you are doing so well, kapluzie.

BOOO! that you have to do another burn due to gaining---but YAY!!!! that we get to read your posts.. sorry Leez-- but I do enjoy your journey.

I've completed my first week in FMD-- and I have noticed that I visit the bathroom during P1 the best.. then P2 and P3-- well P3 is corrected when P1 starts over again... I'm hoping in time that this settles itself-- but if not -- I may consider a burn myself.
I'm liking the FMD and how my body is responding. I like the food combination rotation-- always different.. hard to get stuck in a rut on this plan.. I think for me-- variety is key... I found myself eating much of the same foods while I was in hcg P3- just due to laziness and cost...
Before I go back to work- I'm hoping to prepare 2 weeks worth of lunches and dinners t have in my freezer-- to heat quickly.. once school starts-- I'm a very busy little bee.

I wish you good thoughts and hope the "I" burn does it's job for you....

AFM-- I'm down -.6 today. So my total for my first week on fmd was a loss of 4.6 lbs--- not bad for the first week ( and i made a mistake in calculations of portions).

I'd definitely say you had a great week 1. The most I've ever lost on FMD was around 2 pounds---and that was for the whole month.

The soup is very sweet and mild. So it will be fine. The picture in the book shows it as a bright orange, but mine is a dark green. The chard I used must have been really potent. Orange would be prettier, but the main thing is if it tastes ok enough to drink that mandatory quart a day. ^_^

I think I am going to be glad to get past day 3 on this. Everything is so sour. Even the lunch salad was sour. And I'm already over the tea. I sure hope this is worth it. The other 2 Burns were actually fairly pleasant, and I still would choose to drink the breakfast smoothie from the H-burn fairly often. I'm not liking this I-Burn too much.

    Messed up last night--
went to a backyard farewell party to a friend-- I brought a snack and a dinner meal that I prepared previously-- but I realized that the meal that I brought had a grain in it, and I wasn't suppose to have a grain that night. There were no other choices-- everyone was eating chips and pizza. I ate as little as possible of the grain. No weight change this morning-- yay..
It's good to know that I can mess up and still maintain my weight.
I will need to be more diligent about looking at the meal map. Just knowing which phase I'm in and phase approved foods isn't enough. I'm sure it will become easier as I do it longer.

That's the only thing about FMD---the food maps just aren't intuitive. Unless I'm repeating a favorite meal, I still almost always have to check the food lists to see if a certain fruit or vegetable is on the list for whatever phase I'm in. The app makes it easy, but I am always checking it.

I'm in day 2 of the I-Burn today. No loss from day 1. I actually expected a gain this morning because I felt really thick and puffy last night. If I have a similar result tomorrow morning, I may just stop and do a steak day instead of day 3.

On the other burns, I was willing to see them through no matter what the scale said because I was after whatever healing they offered, but this one I'm doing precisely because the scale has been going up. And if its not bringing it down, I don't really see any benefit in finishing it. But, I will give it one more day.

Sucking on my breakfast smoothie now...except that its more like a breakfast "chunkie". I broke my VitaMix a couple days ago, and the back-up blender just isn't cutting it...so to speak.

The FMD has many good points- and a few bad. Last week was a good week for me-hoping this week I at least stay the same. I was hoping to do some protein shakes- but unfortunately, the only protein powder that is on her master list is her own-- and I won't make the investment without tasting it first. I can open one of my pantry closets and see a room full of "great tasting mistakes"- all very costly and a waste. For now, I'll use fresh produce and meats. But a shake or smoothie would make my life a lot easier. When I finish the 28 days, if the plan works for me, then maybe I'll make the investment. We shall see.
I hope you get the results that you are looking for. Hate it when an appliance breaks- and it's always when you need it most.

she has some good smoothie recipes in her Burn book. Most of them use avocado or almond butter with veggies. I like the one on I-Burn a lot and often have it.

I actually tried to duplicate her Phase2 meal replacement shake by studying the ingredients list. Its basically pea protein, veggie powders and a few other gums and stabilizers. My version turned out particularly vile. I used some powdered greens supplement that was probably too strong tasting. I tried again with rhubarb as a "fruit" component, but still didn't like it. After the second disastrous try, I decided to just stick to chicken breast dipped in rhubarb sauce for my part2 breakfasts.

I think that any veggie based protein concentrate could be used to make up your own shake though. And you could probably just throw in some baby spinach for your veggie which usually disappears taste-wise. Pea protein or hemp protein, probably even egg protein would probably be good choices. Maybe try cocoa powder in with the hemp protein, since its rather dark colored, and a little nuttier flavored.

I used whey protein when I did it. I already knew I didn't have a problem with dairy.

I would probably use whey protein if I tried it now, since I have personally found I can use dairy proteins in FMD without any problems. I now use greek yogurt as a protein choice in FMD which makes the part2 breakfast so much more pleasant. But as an FYI for those reading....dairy is not permitted in the FMD program.

    I-Burn: Ending report

So, 3 days of the I-Burn and a total loss of 2.2 pounds from the start of it. Interestingly, the entire loss showed up today. At yesterday's weigh-in, I was higher than my start weight. I'm not sure why I even went ahead and finished it--because that was pretty dismaying. I guess I just thought, its only one more day....so might as well give it a fair chance.

Being as I gained 2 pounds in the two days before I started it, it's pretty much a wash. I'm going back into the FMD at about the same weight as when I started two weeks ago.

    My conclusions:
a steak or Fage day is a lot easier and less expensive
I will not do this Burn intensive again

It was just too much sour stuff and all but one meal was some kind of salad. I actually was glad for the soup by the end, because it was the only thing that wasn't sour. Note: there is about twice as much soup in the recipe as you need. I would recommend halving the recipe and just add a little water if needed to get the 3 quarts you need for the plan.

This was the least pleasant of the Burns. I spent most of the three days on the verge of nausea and with a low-grade headache. I think it was because of the cayenne pepper in the tea...it just didn't sit well on my stomach. That and the sour. I seem to have a low tolerance for that. The other two burns I tolerated well and felt well during. It's just this one that was problematic. I would say it might have been some kind of detox response, except that I know I react that way to cayenne and acid together. Cali-kickers that others love so much feel like they are burning a hole in my stomach.

The only saving grace for this will be if it is actually a "plateau-breaker" and helps FMD work better this week. I'm not sure what my plan for part3 will be this week. I'll see how today and tomorrow go on part 1 first.

Back to FMD now and I'm up a pound after the first day, but I'm going to stay on course at least for a while.

I really enjoy the part1 menus. My favorite breakfast is nutmeg-spiced steel cut oats cooked with diced, pre-baked sweet potato, and topped with a 3-berry compote I thicken with a little konjac powder. So yummy.

Bobs Red Mill has a quick version of steel cut oats. That makes things so much easier. I get the 3 berry blend frozen at Costco. I'll add some fresh blueberries after cooking if I have them.
