Those sound super yummy! I actually like Trim Healthy Mama the best because you aren't stuck on one phase for 2 days. You vary up the meals.

Rose, you seem to have found your levels, and I'm happy for you. Thats what I'd like my testimony to be. I'm still struggling to figure out what can work for me long-term.

Truthfully, the whole food combining thing confuses me. Most of the sites your visit about it recommend not combining protein and starch unless the protein is a vegan source. My former nutritionist also had that rule. I once followed a program decades ago called Fit for Life that had that same rules and did well on it at the time. A sample recipe from that had a big salad that included rice and was doused with olive oil. I ate a lot of hummus, and poured olive oil on my sweet potatoes. I lost to a normal weight doing that--according to that theory, because there was no animal protein in with those fats.

However, FMD and THM both recommend not combining fat and starch, and we all know that is the big caution in P3 of the HCG protocol.

So I end up wondering who is really right, and if I should even try to combine the methods somehow. I probably could manage that by becoming a vegan again.

grammy, do you eat as frequently on THM as you do on FMD? Or do they not have the "eat every 2-3 hours" rule? And do you think it can work for maintenance if you just use the S & E meals without doing a lot of FP ones? I basically follow the THM idea when I free-style P4, but I seem to end up gaining.

They say 3-4 hours but I generally am closer to FMD. I usually try for about every 3 hours. It works great for me for maintenance. I find I can't do too much dairy or I end up gaining though. It's very slow moving and insidious. LOL

Your other one sounds interesting! The Plan does that, has fats with starches but it's all plant sources.

I think The Plan may be my next avenue of attack. Maybe there's something I'm eating even on FMD that is a hidden problem, and it can help me finally find out what it is.

At this point, I'm OK with giving a full month to straight FMD (I've got a week or so left) but I need to figure out why I'm still a few pounds up even with FMD and the I-Burn that I did in the middle of it.

Today starts the last week of the restarted 28 day FMD. I'm at about the same weight as when I initially started 6 weeks ago.

(The first weekend for part3, I did H-burn recipes, the second I did the full-blown I-Burn, so I'm not counting those two weeks in my full 28 day rotation.)

This was the first part3 that I didn't gain a pound a day. I did gain a little, but less than half a pound. I made my hummus with aduki beans this time, and didn't have any nuts except coconut. I had H-burn smoothies for my snacks but replaced the sunflower seeds with coconut oil. So I'm thinking my problem is either the chickpeas or one of the nuts or seeds that I thought was safe. At least it seems tahini is not one of the bad guys, thankfully! Hummus is one of my favorite lunches.

I ordered The Plan book, so when it gets here, I'll be reading up on that and see if I can get up the resolve to give it a go. One thing I'm wondering about is --what if I'm in the 1% of people who are not ok with the starting menus? For instance, I'm still suspicious of flax seed causing gains for me. Are there substitutions?

You can eat blueberry compote instead of the flax granola if you like. But have you ever eaten WHOLE flaxseeds? Ground meal can spike estrogen levels.

No, not in recent memory. I usually have tried to use the flaxmeal as a flour and thickener, or as an egg substitute. So you would recommend going ahead with the flax granola? I don't have the book yet, but I read in an overview that you also start out with chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds--all have been suspicious for me after this last round. But I'm only sure about the chia seeds.

Yes there are chia, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds. The pumpkin seeds are pepitas without the shell. If you try the full on protocol, make sure you get organic. Especially the sunflower seeds because so much of the time they are hard to find not roasted. At least here.

I can get raw organic seeds pretty easily here.

Wow. So now I don't know what to do. If I don't even know how to safely start the day 1 menu, how does one proceed?

I dunno. Maybe I should just go for it.
