Some thoughts about HCG & THM similarity

Was out on my walk today and was thinking about how I am eating on my current P2. This time I find myself happy to just repeat my favorite P2 meals. I've varied a couple of times with shrimp and different vegetables, but this basically how I've been eating this time.

    • Breakfast is fruit, usually an apple
    • Lunch is usually cabbage & chicken soup
    • Snack fruit plus melba (rye or chestnut cracker in my case)
    • Dinner fish and grape tomatoes most days
    • Snack chicken bone broth and 2nd melba

If I look at that menu in the light of THM (Trim Healthy Mama) eating rules, it works out to E, FP, E, E, E (all very light E's of course). And, I'm eating every few hours throughout the day, also a THM principle.

When I am in maintenance using THM, I find I do much better with E meals than S meals, so I tend to go for about 2/3 E's and a few FPs, and the rest some form of S. I like E meals better, and I feel good when I eat this way.

So I'm wondering if part of why I always feel so good during P2 (its almost a physical euphoria) is because this is the way my body likes to eat. Of course that doesn't account for all the fat the HCG is burning, but it's an interesting thought.

My other thought is that people that feel they do best on low carb or ketogenic diets tend to gravitate towards the HCG 2.0 or 3.0 modifications that allow some fat in the P2 menus and eliminate the fruit and starch. Some do well on those, but it seems like many that do those alternate programs don't get to goal. Maybe its just not reported, it's hard to tell. But the point is that they feel good eating that way, or they couldn't sustain it. So maybe it makes some kind of sense for them to choose to do an HCG plan the includes fat.

I'd be interested to hear others thoughts about this idea.

Most people who do THM seem to hang out more in S meals though, have you noticed? I am in several FB groups and most dieters following it do a lot of S meals, a few E meals and a few FP meals. Most lose weight that way too, though I don't--probably because I have no gall bladder. If you do better on E meals, I'd guess it's because you have adrenal/thyroid issues like me. My favorite part of Fast Metabolism Diet is phase 1 with the high carb. I feel great and lose best on it. I personally think we feel good on hcg because of the hcg itself. It also helps we are eliminating to many dietary intolerances. I tried a round with homeopathic hcg and only made it 2 weeks. I simply didn't get that same "up" feeling at all with the homeopathic. I was eating the same food so I really do believe it's the hcg itself.

Yes, I have noticed that I'm in the minority preferring E meals. I read the old THM forum and thats prevalent there.

I tried it that way (S-predominant), and I gained. I don't lose doing the mostly E meals, but at least I can maintain. At first, I did lose on the phase 1 of FMD, but the last couple times I tried it, I gained on it, AND on phase 3, so unless I had a really good loss in phase2, I ended up gaining for the week. So apparently I need some tweaking for FMD should I try it again.

I've been doing adrenal support for a while as well as gut-healing stuffs, so hopefully some of this will slowly resolve as I go on.

Its a good point about factoring in the effect of the HCG.

I do THM for maintenance,, and hang out mostly in S land. I like an E meal for breakfast, especially oatmeal, but I use half and half in my coffee and think I sometimes go over the 5 grams of fat.

This time around I am going to try more E meals. I think I am scared of them because I have done low carb for so darn long. I do have hypothyroid and think more E meals would be better for me.

Leez, I thought I read in the THM thread that you thought you should do a few more crossovers?

Yes, I found I maintained easier if I had a few crossovers a week, like maybe 3.

After a bunch of HCG rounds, I was scared of carb meals too. And for good reason--they gave me immediate weight jumps that didn't come off with steak days. I spent some time doing FMD, and that fixed my carb sensitivity. Its done that for others too.

I have never done anything but the homeopathic hcg, but I always feel great while on P2. Maybe it is the intermountain hcg pellets.. I don't know, but they work for me

I tend to do a bit of both E and S meals, but really watch on the carbs and try really hard to have only the good carbs from veggies etc.

I did the HCG 2.0 this last time around, but the only change I really made was in how much protein I was getting. I upped it, and also did a THM Protein drink in the morning, and had turkey jerky at night before bed , the Zero Carb type.

Other than that I believe only in the Original Protocol, just for some reason this last time I thought I would try it too see, and if it worked, I would try and convince my husband to try again as it would give him some leeway on the diet.
