This book is very interesting. I just started reading it tonight. I am thinking this could be some of my issues and I may pursue it as I see how with someone older how certain foods can cause such a weight gain, when normally you wouldn't think it would.

I finished getting everything together today and will start in the morning. I took a sip of the Silk Coconut Original milk tonight. Wow...so sweet. I don't think I have to worry about the flax granola being unsweetened now. I'll see how it goes, but I think I should have got the unsweetened and just added honey to taste. The book didn't say use unsweetened though, and I'm trying to follow as exactly as I can. She does say that a little sugar is not going to be any kind of issue.

Kind of looking forward to getting going. It will be nice to know for sure what keeps me gaining. I for sure have not been able to figure it out. Yesterday, I ate what I thought was a safe menu and was up 2 pounds today. yikes. I tried to be even safer today, but apparently, it seems I don't know what that means. yikes. 2 pounds. *is about to have a Nancy Kerrigan WHY ME?!?!? moment....*

Maybe tomorrow will be the beginning of the end of the confusion.

You shouldn't be using the Original but the unsweetened. The second ingredient in that is sugar.

That's disappointing that I bought the wrong thing-- there is no where in the book that says to get unsweetened that I saw. I do have some unsweetened coconut milk, but it has carrageenan in it. So I guess I'll just make my own. Or use the rice dream original, which I also picked up.

    Looking at the nutrition:

Silk Coconut:total carbs 7g (sugar 7g) with sugar as second ingredient
Rice Dream: total carbs 23 g (sugar 10g) but no sugar listed in ingredients. So that's better?

I'm finding that the book doesn't seem to give you all the information you need.

Just remember to take some of the principles you actually know with you--that sugar is inflammatory in general and added sugar is best avoided until she actually tests it. I wouldn't use the rice dream myself, only the unsweetened coconut milk. If you have to use what you have on hand, I'd use the original silk rather than the rice dream. Rice is okay but I don't like the carb count in general when mixed with the high fat of the flax.

That makes perfect sense. I think I have been viewing sugar more as a carb increaser than an inflammation increaser, so I need to remember that.

I just got my nutbag out and will be blending up some coconut milk. Thanks for catching me on this one!

Me too, Colleen. I really hope this will lead me to my answers.

I did make some coconut milk, but I've decided since its already late morning to put off starting till tomorrow.

My other reason for waiting, is that my first garden tomato is finally ripe enough to eat after a pretty much losing battle with the squirrels who were pilfering the tomatoes as soon as they were big enough to see. I finally was able to get a few to maturity after robing the plants in nylon netting. So I want to have that victory tomato for lunch today and at least be able to enjoy something from all that effort defending my two measly heirloom tomato plants all summer. Also, just in case tomatos turn out to be one of my sensitivities, I will at least have one last hurrah.

OK, tomorrow's the day--I'm finally ready to go. (My tomato sandwich was spectacular. I am now fulfilled as a gardener. )

I realize my digital scale measures in .2 increments instead of .1

Is that .1 difference important enough to run out and buy a new scale?

No it's not. I have one that measures in .2, and I think the actual amount you gain from a reactive food is .5. I'd have to look again for sure.
