    I started today.

    Today’s weigh-in: 232.8
My digital basal thermometer is in the mail, hopefully not having the basal temp during the initial 3 cleanse days will not be too much of a problem.

The last time I stood on the scale was on 8/28 when we got back from vacation. I weighed 221.6.

I really hope that following The Metabolism Plan will give me some insight into why I am on this crazy weight gain rollercoaster. I hope it will help me identify and avoid the things that I am reactive to and heal my gut. I already avoid wheat, fish, and shellfish due to allergies. Dairy has been iffy. After my most recent round of hcg I am reacting to eggs. Right now I am avoiding these foods, but in a haphazard way that has me cobbling together weird “safe” menus that are not necessarily healthy. Cravings and other symptoms are back with a vengeance.

I made the flax granola and carrot soup last night. I subbed honey for the agave called for in the recipe, and I got roasted flax from Trader Joe’s so I only did the lower heat second part of the cooking instructions. I was really worried about the carrot soup because I don’t care for the taste of cooked carrots and there is no added salt in the recipe, and I am a salt fiend. I added the optional can of coconut milk and it is actually pretty tasty! The recipe made a HUGE batch.

So far breakfast was tasty and lunch was surprisingly filling.

I have not prepped my dinner yet but I have the ingredients at home so I will start cooking when I get home from work. The next thing I am worried about is in the dinner menu: beets. They taste like dirt to me! Also… due to my previous notions I am having a hard time with her addition of sriracha or chiles to the coco sauce – I would have thought that nightshades were a test. Convincing me that natural sugars are ok in moderation in an otherwise healthy menu is one thing, but nightshades?!? I love spicy food so much! And don’t we sometimes crave our reactive foods?

I am supposed to aim for 110 oz of water per day, going to need to come up for a strategy for that within the parameters of not drinking 45 mins before or after a meal, 16 ounces at a time, and no drinking after dinner.

    Day 1
Breakfast: 1 cup flax granola, Ĺ cup thawed frozen blueberries, 1 cup TJs unsweetened rice milk beverage
Lunch: Baby romaine with pear, pumpkin seed salad with EVOO, lemon juice, dill, honey dressing, steamed broccoli, carrot soup with sesame seeds
    Snack: apple
Dinner: Kale with spicy coco sauce and sunflower seeds, beet and carrot salad with pumpkin seeds and dressing

I am hoping to log my journey here, hope that is ok!

That's great hallie. I hope you get a nice loss from your cleanse days. Although none is promised, I usually lose 3-5 pounds from the cleanse.

If you are wary of nightshades, just don't include them in the recipes. I think its better to omit things rather than try to do any substitutions. There is something very refreshing about the lemon juice/EVOO dressing used during the cleanse. I always enjoy the salads. Its worth getting the Maine Coast kelp seasoning. It makes up for the salt. I put it on nearly everything in the cleanse menus.

I love the beet carrot salad. Enough fresh lemon juice will mask the beet taste. Its nice with a few cranberries tossed in too. I always assumed cranberries were ok in the cleanse because the purchased approved flax granola contains some.

    Thanks for the tips, Leez!

I got cranberries because they were on the shopping list and there is a "trail mix" snack that you can have with sunflower seeds and dried cranberries. I will try throwing a couple in. I actually have 2 different varieties of the Maine Coast seasoning, if I miss salt too much I will put them to use.

Good luck Hallie. I am going to follow your progress as well. I have the book as well, and would love to do this one day soon. It's just not the right timing for me yet.

Oh my...I clearly jumbled my understanding of the different self-help books. I thought The Metabolism discussion on this information filled thread was referring to the FMD. I now think I get that there is FMD by Pomeroy, The Plan by L-Genet Recitas and THM which is Trim Healthy MaMa by Barret & Allison. This thread I see now is clearly for The Plan. I do have my schedule figured out wherein I hope to do one or two 28 day cycles of the FMD and reset my messed up metabolism. I used to have a phenomenal metabolism which Iíll probably never get back but Iím going to give it one heck of a determined shot. (((BLESSINGS)))

It's easy to get them confused, and some of us have done them all.

THE PLAN is in a new version now called THE METABOLISM PLAN. What is new is that in between food tests, she has you do an exercise test. That slows down the testing somewhat and may be better for noticing delayed reactions. I havent' tried the new version yet, but it makes sense. I found that I needed more than one friendly day after a test failure to recover before I could test the next food. Sometimes I needed a whole week. This schedule breaks it up more, and of course the menus are always changing as she gathers more data from her clients about what works for the majority and what doesn't.

JayK - thanks! I know what you mean about the time being right! I bought the book at the end of August and am just starting now.

shmeans - my metabolism isn't what it used to be, either! I have not tried THM yet (I looked at it and it seems confusing), but I did try one round of FMD before. I got frustrated because I did not lose weight like others do on it, but... that was not the right mindset and I should have been more focused on the benefits of healing my metabolism instead of what the scale said.

    Today’s weigh-in: 228.6
    wow.

I used cayenne pepper instead of sriracha last night in the coco sauce, and I chickened out on the beets. I underestimated the time it would take me to prepare dinner and did not end up eating until 9:30! So I managed to convince myself that I did not have the time to grate the beet and I ate the carrot salad without it (yum). I did not enjoy the cooked carrots in the kale. I cut them into coins and… yuck. The cleanse has so many carrots!

I am playing around with the idea of modifying the recipes a touch but hopefully keeping the principles of the diet intact. All this clean food and prep work, and with just a tiny tweak I could have a dish I really enjoy (instead of dread). I am noticing tiny variations between her current online plan and what is in my book. For example, in the online plan today’s lunch salad has Ĺ diced apple and there is no apple listed in the book. Hopefully I don't sabotage myself with this way of thinking. I am planning to try the beet tonight.

I was able to find dandelion tea last night and I had a cup this morning. It did not taste that great. The things we do for our liver…

Today I ended up dragging a cooler bag into work with my lunch in it. So much food.

    Day 2
Breakfast: 1 cup flax granola, 1 small diced pear, 1 cup TJs unsweetened rice milk beverage
Lunch: Baby romaine with avocado and EVOO, lemon juice, dill, honey dressing, sauteed broccoli, carrot soup with sesame seeds
    Snack: apple with almonds (test)
Dinner: Kale with spicy coco sauce, rice with pumpkin seeds, beet and carrot salad with sunflower seeds and dressing

There are sesame seeds in the cleanse? Or did you just sub that for the sunflower seeds?

Sesame is usually a test way down the line, because its reactive for a lot of people

But your body seemed to like whatever you did yesterday, so hopefully that trend will continue!

I believe the idea is to go with the online menus over the book, as they are always updating. But the menus in the book do still work, so you are fine either way.

I love that lunch salad on day 1. Something about the pear that is really refreshing.

Yikes! I meant to type sunflower there. Sesame would be weird.
That does remind me of a question I had though. She mentions sunflower tahini a lot (I guess to avoid sesame), but I don't know what that is.

That would just be sunbutter (sunflower seed butter), likely thinned out a bit to tahini consistency if used in a salad dressing.

I've used it to make hummus before I tested sesame, its a good sub for tahini.

    Day 3 227.2
My digital basal thermometer arrived in the mail. I ended up taking my temp(underarm) 3 consecutive times this morning and got 97.14, 96.94, and 96.78.

Still having a problem getting my water in, this 45 minute window before and after meals is a problem I need to work on.

The food is really tasting surprisingly good and I really enjoyed my tiny piece of chicken tonight. Tomorrow-goat cheese at lunch!!

    Overall feeling good and hopeful.
