Leez, I seem to remember reading that some people gain when first starting THM. Maybe due to a damaged metabolism or being too low in carbs for too long. But you were on the plan for a while so probably not lack of carbs. Maybe you need to go to having an E breakfast and eating FP's for snack and S meals for lunch and dinner.

Ive gained some too but it was from not probably preparing for traveling. I thought we were going out of town today for a while but are instead waiting until Christmas so I am going to try to do better this trip.

I read that too about gaining at the beginning, but nothing about how much or how long you would keep gaining. Do you know anything more about that? I've been having at least one E meal a day, and sometimes two. I had one day this week that was an all E day. I've been switching up E & S for breakfast and lunch and then have an S dinner.

EDIT: After doing some reading in the book, I'm thinking that it might be a good idea for me to follow the allergen free menu plan as much as I can for a while and see if that will calm things down. Its gluten & dairy free as well as egg-free, so that will be a challenge, but it might be worth a try. I need to get a few ingredients, notably okra...but I can get started tomorrow without them.

Just realized I didn't post a report today.

So, steak day was successful in dropping me two of the four pounds I gained since the last steak day loss.

I actually did a hybrid kind of steak day, starting out with chia pudding and then not eating again until the early evening when I had my steak and apple. I had kind of stumbled onto this technique a while ago, when I started a greek yogurt correction day, got busy until evening, and instead of eating the rest of the boatload of yogurt in one shot, ate a steak and apple instead. I lost just as well as on either strategy alone. I have no idea why that worked, but it worked again with the chia pudding instead of the morning yogurt.

So I don't know what will happen from here. Today's menu didn't go quite as planned. I was going to try an all S day to see if I could keep my loss better than last time. I had an S breakfast, an S-helper lunch. I made a secret big boy smoothie but with a half grapefruit instead of berries. And it was my first try at okra. I think a cup was too much fiber for me. I had some stomach pain afterwards. And tonight I'm having some gas. Maybe I'll try again later with half a cup. Especially since I could taste it. I read where you sometimes need an S-helper thrown into the mix to shake things up, so maybe that will help.

I had put some of the chicken in the crockpot, but it wasn't done, so for dinner, I ended up making the cowboy grub (but without the corn) for an E dinner. It was great. I'm not a big pinto bean fan normally, but I really liked them in this dish. I'm glad I have leftovers. I hope I can get through tomorrow's weigh-in without a big scale jump. If not, I'm probably not good with the okra.

YAY...so happy and thankful today. I think the prayers worked! I'm only up .2 from the day after the steak day. For me that's pretty amazing, so I'm going to say that I'm good with the okra, even though it caused some gastric issues yesterday. I might have to slowly work up to that whole cup amount.

The bbq crockpot chicken will be on my menu today, it smells wonderful. I might do that for lunch.

that's great news Leez.. that's like a gift in itself after the steak day...

and yum yum, I should have put the cookbook on my xmas list, but I will just order it myself.. just hearing bbq crockpot chicken gets me going!

and to all... what are some of your favorite breakfasts to enjoy on the go... I have limited time in morning... i have done eggs in different way in advance and then can heat and eat.... smoothies work too... but always helpful to hear what others like... of course I have more time on weekends.. and about to have ten days off too!!

When you get the the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on.

Yes, definitely get the cookbook. Its unlike anything you've ever seen. So creative. You can find a lot of the recipes online, but what I find so helpful about the cookbook is that you get the explanations of why these particular combinations work and what healing effects they can have for your metabolism. Its eye opening, and stuff not really covered in that much detail in the book.

I'm considering getting the cookbook spiral bound too, so it will lay flat. It should only be a few bucks at the local office supply place.

The bbq chicken recipe has one of those goofy THM names that I can never remember: wipe your mouth barbeque. Its very good. I think I'll add some heat next time.

I love doing steel cuts oats in the crockpot overnight for breakfast. Its a great choice when the weather is cold. I either cook it with chopped apples, or make a berry compote to top it with. Sometimes I add a half cup of chopped butternut squash in with the oats and fruit. Some other easy quick E's I've done:
0% greek yogurt with fruit topped with Ezekiel cereal, or with Ez toast.

Ez toast with faux peanut butter (peanut flour mixed with either water, or your allowed portion of Laughing Cow Light Swiss) and topped with thinly sliced apples. Add some gelatin to your coffee to boost protein.

Warm up left-over quinoa cooked with pineapple, and top with sweetened greek yogurt.

Favorite S breakfast: warm vanilla-nutmeg chia pudding with blueberries, and topped with raw sunflower seeds. It only takes a couple minutes to warm almond or coconut Silk with the chia seeds until they thicken.

Since I don't do eggs, I haven't tried any of the mug muffins or cakes for breakfast, but those would be options too. Maybe Colleen or Ginger have some favorites from that category.

And, you can always have any other leftovers you have lying around for a quick breakfast if you don't mind non-breakfasty foods.

One of my favorite breakfasts is oatmeal cooked with egg whites. I soak my oats overnight in water and a little ACV. Makes it quicker to cook and easier to digest. I usually just put my soaked oats in a small pan. You can cook it right in the water it is soaked in. But you may need to drain off some of it. Cook for a couple minutes. Turn the heat down a little and whisk the egg whites in a little at a time. If the oats are boiling the egg will cook and be white in your oats. So it is important for the oats not to be boiling. Sometimes I turn the heat down and remove the pan from the heat as I begin to slowly add the egg whites while whisking. Then i will put the pan back on the heat and continue adding the whites and whisking. The volume will swell to at least double. Once the egg whites are incorporated in, you can add the frozen berries and cinnamon and sweetener and you are done. I also do this with quinoa but you have to cook the quinoa a bit longer. At least 10 mins or more. I sometimes eat a slice or 2 of turkey bacon or Canadian bacon for the extra protein. This is an E breakfast.

Up another .2. But ONLY .2, so I'm taking that as a good sign, since I always have some bounceback from steak days. Hopefully things will stabilize now and then start trending downward.

I did a whole E day yesterday, so today will be mostly an S if all goes as planned. I think I will start adding okra in everyday somewhere. I noticed a big change (good one) in the bathroom from it, so my body is apparently liking all that mucilage. I would love it if I could use okra instead of the supplements I take to keep things moving.

Last night, I made the choco chip baby frappe with it and used 1/4 C of the alien stuff. It was great. And it gave me an idea....since the okra made it slightly greenish, I'm going to add some mint to the next one to make it a mint chocolate chip.

But this is a bit troubling: I noticed a little itchy rash on my stomach today. That usually means I'm reacting to something--in the past it has been med fillers or particular herbs (fenugreek was one). Not sure what it is this time, or if its just a temporary thing.

That sounds promising, Leez! And with the rash, it might just be temporary with the cold, drier air from the furnace. hope it all settles down!

Good thought on the rash. That could very well be it. I noticed my skin is a bit drier than normal all over. That means it's time to put the water pans on the radiators.
