It's sad how much we love cheese.

I'm getting more and more convinced that gut bacteria balance is the at the root of just about everything.

Holding today. Which I'm taking as a good thing. I accidentally had a tiny bit of corn-based xylitol yesterday after already testing things with an Aldi's version LLCow cheese wedge that contains xanthan gum. (There's that cheese thing again. ^_^ ) I thought the double whammy might be devasting, so I was dreading the scale this morning. Thankfully, there was no huge repercussion.

I keep reading that the processing of both xanthan gum and xyitol prevent any of the actual corn from being in the end product, but all the corn allergy blogs/boards always list them as things to avoid. So I've never been sure about it, just avoided them. I did notice a weird aftertaste from the corn-xylitol that I don't get from the birch.

Yes me too. Here's a probiotic I'm going to try. It's pricey but has 450 billion probiotics and a wider range than most. https://shop.vsl3.com/vsl3-unflavored---30-pack-p4.aspx

Do you take breaks from your probiotics? I try to take breaks for most supplements, but I wasn't sure if you should do that with probiotics as well. I haven't, because I don't want to mess up the good elimination patterns I finally have going now and wondered if taking a break would affect that.

Gut bacteria is has a lot to do with weight gain/loss. In the book I just read, Always Hungry; there was a study done with nice. They gave fecal implants from human twins, a heavy and lean set. Guess what the mice given implants from the heavy human got fat and ones given lean implants stayed lean. I think we are just tapping into the microbes of our digestive system.

I don't take breaks. I've been on probiotics for probably 20 years. LOL I do change up the brands though.

I have been trying a prebiotic and probiotic. It was expensive but I was on three types of antibiotics in November.

Those anti-biotic courses really mess with your gut flora. I bet most of us have altered gut flora not only from that but from anitbiotics in our foods and skin care products that we are constantly exposed to. Its a wonder anyone can stay healthy at all.

I think I need to do something more than just stay on plan. I'm up again more than a pound. A late E snack and really bad sleep might partially explain it. I was awake for nearly 3 hours in the middle of the night. Everything except breakfast yesterday was E. So I suppose there could be some water retention just from the carbs. I also had a late E snack. Usually when I have something in the evening, I try to make it an FP, so that might be a factor as well.

Today I'm going to try for 2 deep S's. My breakfast was an S, but was chia pudding, so not a deep S. I could probably do some deep S breakfasts if got the stuff and made some breakfast sausage, but I don't have any right now and I'm out of bacon. Hopefully, I can make some progress with 2 deep S meals daily for the next few days.

I lost some of the gain I recorded yesterday, but not all. This past month I have been hovering around 5 pounds above my THM start weight. It's uncomfortable, both mentally and physically.

I did manage 2 deep S meals yesterday. But boy am I ready for an E breakfast. I made some overnight barley and cherries in the crockpot. I'll probably try to do deepS today at lunch. Dinner will be a basic S. I'm making smothered pork loin steaks with broccoli and cauliflower mash.

THM (Trim Healthy Mama) for P4

Yes antibiotics do mess with the gut flora. I try and stay away but when we were on holidays I fell on a stone reef and cut myself. Very silly on my part! Lol! Big infection when I got home and it was nasty for such a little scrape.

How frustrating about your gains Leez. How was your breakfast? Dinner sounds good!!

I can't say I am losing weight. My waist is down a little but clothes feel the same. My husband is down 12lbs! He basically cut out sugar, white flour and potatoes. He follows a bit but has a fair number of crossovers. He has never been a chronic dieter and this shows with how easily he loses weight. I seem to be maintaining just fine at my heavy weight lol! I think I may have to do another round and try to maintain with THM.

Gosh...men are so maddening. I love that commercial where the chubby wife says, "he cut out sodas and lost 15 pounds, I haven't had bread in TWO YEARS!" So true! haha!

It seems to me that THM seems to work best for people that are moving into a healthier lifestyle when they start it. It has a greater effect when you have that big change of eliminating sugar and processed foods and your body goes through that sigh of relief and rewards you with a big chunk of weight loss.

Not so much for those of us who have already cleaned up our food choices. In fact, I've probably relaxed mine a bit doing THM. The extra freedom is nice, but it isn't getting me anywhere. I do like the emphasis on the healing foods though. I've been trying to concentrate my menu planning towards those.

I think I've put my finger on one of my problems. I've been treating E meals more like FMD phase 1 meals...in that my grain portion has been a bit bigger than THM recommends, and I didn't worry about how much fruit or other veggie carbs I was adding to it. In THM, that seems to make a difference. So I've probably been going over my carb limit in some E meals without realizing it.

The other thing I think I may have been doing wrong is not including enough fats in S meals in an effort to keep my S's lighter. That makes me hungrier earlier, so I end up having more to eat at the next meal than I might have chosen had I upped the fats a little more before. I've been trying to get around 20 grams of protein in at meals, but I sometimes fall short there as well, since I tend to choose non-meat protein options most of the time.

Interesting about your observations. I do think we have to tweak things and it takes some trial and error. I agree that those that get fast results just needed to tweak there diets, like stop drinking pop or diet coke... LOL. I have been eating similar to this for years, however I was neglecting to eat any fruit. I agree too about the healthy foods. I do find I have a lot more energy and I am not very hungry. I do think protions need to be watched. I am really watching the cheese intake! LOL! Is so easy to go over the limit. I still have some sleep issues but that is hormonal and an on going battle for me. It comes and goes.

There is a free fat summit with various doctors and experts on fat. It is at fatsummit.com Some interesting speakers. I am going to listen to a few over the next week.
