Reaching goal is the greatest feeling ever! You are an inspiration. I don't know that I've ever run across anyone that the protocol worked so well for. May it continue to be so as as you move into P3 and beyond.

Thank you. Seriously couldn't have done this without your help and cheering, and, to be honest, the credibility you bring to the table. HCG sounds so crazy, but, since I know you well enough to know how health conscious and studied you are, it answered a lot of the concerns for me.

Thanks! It does feel so great. And I agree about the protocol--it worked crazy well for me. I kept waiting for something to go wrong, but as long as I kept going on protocol, it just kept working.

I've decided to put into practice some of the things I did while away and following THM, since it worked to keep me stable. At this point, I'm so relieved to not be gaining, that I really don't mind if it takes me another year to get back to LIW. Its' only a few pounds, so even if it doesn't happen, I'm still deliriously happy where I am now, in a normal weight range and looking good in my clothes. I'm continually amazed at fitting into size 6 jeans and medium to smalls in group sizes. I bought a beautiful merino wool sweater in an XS recently. And the side seams are in the right place---awesome.

    1. Don't weigh every day. I think I may try weighing once a week for a while unless I feel like I'm having some reaction or sudden gain.

    2. Stay away from sweeteners except for a bit of honey, maple syrup or coconut palm sugar. Sweeten mainly with on-plan fruit preserves or not at all. I am surprised to find out that many things I was adding xylitol to are plenty sweet with some fruit or just a bit of added quality cinnamon or vanilla extract. I like xylitol, but I think its "safeness" encourages me to eat more sweet things overall. I tend to be more careful with quantities when using unprocessed sugars.

    3. Eat mainly plain foods that don't include the specialty THM ingredients. I think this served to keep me away from the "treats" that tempt you to overindulge.

    4. Eat a Rise protein bar for a snack, and as a meal replacement sometimes.

    5. Eat a square or 2 of 85% chocolate for S desserts instead of skinny chocolate, or other more calorific choices.

    6. Eat a few crossovers! I had been avoiding these like the plague before, but while away, I ate some meals that were crossovers, and it obviously didn't hurt anything. So, hey. Maybe that's part of the mixing things up for your body?

    7. Be conscious of enjoying that "slim" feeling I have now. Thats a great encouragement to stay on plan.

Breakfast today was S: chia pudding with blueberries and sunflower seeds.

Lunch is E: toasted cheese on Ezekiel sesame w/ LLC, roasted butternut squash with maple syrup, grilled asparagus. So yummy. omgosh...the squash is like dessert!

Dinner: Buttah chicken and sauteed cabbage.
My technique for roasting squash, sweet potatos, and pretty much any root vegetable is one I got from Hayley Pomroy when following FMD:

Cut in half longways, then lightly mist or brush with olive oil and sprinkle with pink salt. Place cut side down on pan lined with parchment paper (or foil). Bake 425 degree oven for about 45 min, or until soft and cut surface has some caramelization.

Baking the root vegetables this way makes them super soft and sweet. I do a whole tray of whatever I have to roast at a time, and just store extras in the fridge until I want them.

Leez, Was looking to see where to buy those rise bars and after seeing the nutritional info I am wondering if you use them as crossovers? I noticed they don't fit into either S, E, or FP meals.

Good that you have figured out what works for you. You know, staying simple seems to be the way to go for me also. Before I got the newest plan book and cookbook, I was doing THM simply and actually lost 7 lbs. But messed it up during the holidays and then bought the newest books and special ingredients and not only gained it back but gained a little more.

Loving that recipe for roasting squash and root veggies. Can't wait to get in p4 and back into THM to give it a try!

AFM. Was up 1 lb today but that is to be expected as I have more food in my body. Went walking yesterday when the pollen count was still high and no headache today. I started taking zicam allergy homeopathic Sunday so hoping it is what is helping in that respect! I do well with zicam cold so hoping to have the same results with this zicam allergy gel.

Yes, Ginger. I eat the Rise bars as crossovers. (Although the ones with coconut palm sugar are just off plan.) I found that does not make me gain. Maybe I'm not as sensitive to the little bits of honey or coconut palm nectar as others might be? I suppose if you ate a half one, it would fit into the S category, but who wants to eat only half? I'd rather have something natural and that tastes good than something that is a bunch of fake ingredients but fits the plan. I've tried making my own, but I can't get the texture right. They either come out too soft, or too dry. There must be some secret process I don't know about.

One thing that escaped me somehow, is that cross-overs are on-plan. So I've amended my former policy to always avoid them, and I think that has actually helped.

I get Rise bars from Natural Grocers, or order from Amazon, where I can buy a box of 12 for about $22 with free shipping. I've seen them at Vitamin Shoppe too.

Enjoying a hot breakfast of a brown rice/wild rice/barley/unidentified Korean small bean mix, almond milk, some cranberries and and a chopped apple. The rice mix was sent home with me by my hosts from my recent trip, along with a bowl of japchae. Japchae was supposed to be the real treat, but the rice was so yummy, I plan to make it myself. I can't remember the name of the bean used, but it looked kind of like a mung bean, so I'll use that in mine. The actual bean is probably not available here anyway. My friend said she brings them back from Korea. The care package got me in trouble with the TSA on the flight home. My carry-on was pulled off the scanner line and searched. When I asked what the problem was, the TSA agent said, "do you have food in there?" I said yes, some Korean food. He said, "Is there rice? Rice looks weird on the scanner, so we have to check it." I assume it must scan as some kind of explosive or something. Thankfully, they didn't confiscate the stuff--it smelled so great, I expected they might!

On to another lovely eating day.

Bread looks weird on the scanner too. I got pulled off because of taking Sami's sourdough bread here to Hawaii. LOL Both in Phoenix and then on the Big Island before flying here to Kauai.

For active weight loss, the sisters don't recommend crossovers in their slow loser menu but they do shake it up and stick to deep S, some FPs and some light Es. But hey, if it's working for you, Leez, that's all that matters! It might be because you're so close to goal that you need them.

Isn't that weird about the scans? Everytime, I think I've figured out how to pack to get through, and it seems each time there is some new infraction in my bag.

I have been following mainly the slow-loser type meal recommendations, but on my trip, I relaxed that somewhat to accommodate a few cross-overs. After doing some more reading, I got clearer on the whole concept of cross-overs. That they are still on-plan, but not considered optimum for weight loss. I think I was confusing cross-overs with meals that were off-plan because of ingredients.

I wasn't losing anyway by avoiding them completely. Having a few has made me much happier, as well as stopped the gaining. So that's a win-win in my book. I had some regular hummus for my lunch on Sunday, so that will be my cross-over for this week, unless I have a protein bar or two somewhere in the mix. I suppose the psychological benefit might be that I feel more satisfied, and that's helping keep me steady too.

Another thing I'm being more conscious of is eating to my satisfaction level and not going beyond it to fullness. I've notice that when I feel full after a meal, I will probably gain some the next day, even if I take extra enzymes. I imagine it might have something to do with incomplete digestion.

Up a pound from last week today. I decided to do a weigh in today because I felt a bit puffy after dinner last night. I'm not sure what is happening, but I've been noticing that some evenings, I feel uncomfortably full--like my food is not digesting, even though I haven't overeaten.

Yesterday, I had that same feeling. It was at the end of a total S day which generally keeps water weight down, so I'm kind of struggling with what might be causing it. I've been careful about sticking to known safe food choices.

I may do today as a vegetarian E day to rest my gut a bit. For breakfast I had some quinoa cooked with pineapple, nutmeg and aduki beans. I was going to stir in some peanut powder, but it was so good plain that I just ate it that way with a little vanilla cashew milk.

E Lunch: Roasted butternut squash with about a 1/4 C. aduki beans and coconut aminos, broccoli steamed with 1 LLC stirred in to make a sauce. Microwave red velvet protein cookie. Recipe

I may have an E hummus for dinner. I find that even though I prefer my meals warm, I can enjoy cold ones if I have some hot drink with them. If I'm not super hungry, I might do an FP meal or shake instead.

It looks like if I stay on plan, I'll be gluten-free today as well as vegetarian. I'm coming to grips with having to eliminate gluten for my thyroid health. Its a struggle, but I know I should do it.

Where did you read about thyroid being affected by gluten?

I just had some on Friday (cake, noodles) and it constipated me all weekend. I must learn to avoid it like I do caffeinated coffee, which gives me headaches.

Leez, can you not have sprouted grain bread either?

Very encouraged by the dialogue, here. I gained over the holidays and then lost during Lent and was back up again after Easter, but this week has shown me that I can reset. Thank you for sharing your struggles so I can learn from you.
