I have the markers for Hashimoto thyroiditis. I'm not totally convinced I have it yet, but I'm considering the dietary changes anyway, just because I have a history or autoimmune disease. One of the recommendations is to avoid all gluten. Here is why:

    http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-3139/...Naturally.html
The molecular composition of thyroid tissue is almost identical to that of gluten. So for those with Hashimoto’s, it’s a case of mistaken identity. Eating gluten can increase the autoimmune attack on your thyroid.
I've given up gluten several times on the many programs I've tried, once was for almost a year. I didn't notice that it helped me then, but maybe things have changed. Or it's possible I didn't do it quite right somehow. I've been eating sprouted grain Ezekiel 4:9 breads and have seemed to do well on them. I did discover that I react to rye but not to wheat. On THE PLAN, eating sourdough white bread (not even whole grain--gasp!) would almost always be a loss day for me. In fact, I would use it as my most reliable friendly day. Interestingly, there is no rye in the Ezekiel versions I've been using.

I just heard back from my health store that they can't order in the Sami's sprouted gluten-free bread, so its going to cost me $15 shipping to try it.

Great that you were able to reset after Easter. I'm beginning to think I need to travel to get my resets.

I order 8 at a time so the shipping isn't so high per loaf. I'm sure you're going to love it. I'd use your autoimmune panel results to help you determine what eliminating gluten is doing for you. It's not all about your weight when it comes to this issue for sure!

I'm making one last attempt to find a store nearby that will carry the Sami's, but no luck yet. So my next project is to make enough room in my freezer so that I can buy enough loaves to make the shipping not too exhorbitant.

A few days have gone by since I weighed and checked in. I'm happy to report that whatever shot me up a couple pounds recently has resolved and I'm floating at what has been my new normal since about February. (I still have a faint hope that I can eventually lose the 7 pounds to get me back to LIW)

I did an all light-S day yesterday, so I'm looking forward to an E or two today. I think for one of them, I will bake some sweet potato and have it with some grilled chicken & asparagus. I'm still not in the mindset of picking my protein first. I always seem to make that an afterthought. But whatever, I'm happy to not be still gaining.

My sister is coming this weekend and will be here for a week. I'm planning some fun stuff for us to do, like a Zumba class, art-festival visit, some horse-back riding, and of course--our favorites: thrift store shopping and porch-sitting. I'll probably only be online in the late evenings all next week, since she's a morning person and likes to retire super-early. I don't get how you can go to bed while its still daylight, but I guess we are all different!

Hey Leez: Hope your visit with your sister went well!! I am following your thread on THM carefully after having read the book and bought the recipes!! Just finishing a round, seems I need a correction round every year to stay in a healthy threshold weight. I know I need to do P 3 correctly before starting THM. I have not been successful keeping my consistent weight by being gluten, dairy and egg free. So I am hoping that the cycling nature of THM and having some egg and dairy will prove useful. After most rounds I ended up with an extreme intolerance to eggs so I think I will take it easy and watch closely the scale to see if the same prevails after this P3. The extreme intolerance really began after trying Dr. kruse's Leptin reset with 3 eggs and bacon some mornings!! Whammy!! Bad news for my body!!

Just put my sister on her return flight home. We had a blast and packed about as much stuff into the week as humanly possible. We did a lot of shopping and hiking around the city. Yesterday, we did a woodlands trail ride on some gaited horses--it was fabulous.

We were on the go and physically active the whole time. We even fit in a Zumba class. I'll spend today regrouping and have some kind of report for tomorrow or the next day. But I stayed on plan and still ate well. THM is great for that because your choices are so flexible.

Stats are in from my sister's week!

I actually lost a little. About a half pound. So that makes me happy that I can relax, eat sanely but enjoyably and not suffer a set back. Its been proven 3 times recently--on two trips away, and on this week with my sister where I did not watch the scale or be super strict with meal spacing. I have found that adding in a few cross-overs doesn't create any problems for me. I also found that the white vinegar in 4 pickle chips is too much for me. Drat. Stupid corn. Its in seemingly everything.

My sister has a fitbit, so it was interesting to see how much activity we were actually doing. We walked to our destinations whenever practical. Most days we got over ten thousand steps, and on some days it was more like 17,000.

I am happily back to schedule now and todays breakfast is some warm chia pudding with blueberries and sunflower seeds.

I've been on the road for 18 days so eating has been slightly erratic. Wasn't going to weigh for a couple of days since I know I'm retaining fluid and not drinking enough water. Up 2 lbs since April 14 though periodic scale weights showed down 2 or up. I think weight after two or three days will more accurate. I just wanted to take my own advice and not be afraid of the scale whatever it shows. Lol.

That mental scale battle is very real. I fight not wanting to get on everytime I feel a little puffy. I think seeing a higher number messes with my mind for the whole day, and I just have a resistance to facing that. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm going to have ups and downs within my range.

Lately I've been trying to just concentrate on eating on time and being aware of portions. I think that is where my danger area is....those few extra bites beyond my satisfaction level. Ny current goal is to be moare aware of chewing thoroughly and eating more slowly so I can get better at that. I feel like this week I've been extra hungry a couple of the days even though my activity hasn't increased. Not sure what that is about.

    My secret weapon: chopsticks!

    Here's to conquering that scale-aversion!

    Sami's sourdough bread

Can one of you tell me about this bread or give me a link? I'm on a round of hCG right now, but when I'm done I'm going back to THM for maintenance.

You can get the THM approved Sami's gluten-free millet sourdough here:

Good luck with the rest of your round, hcgcheerleader.

I did a weigh-in today, and I'm ecstatic to report that I'm down a pound from last week. That is so excellent. That means I've returned to my lowest weight since the beginning of January, and only 2 pounds over where I was when I started THM this past December. It seems I am slowly, ever so slowly making some progress now.

I've come to the place where I really don't care how long it takes to get back to goal weight, as long as I keep going down instead of up. All my clothes fit, and I look fine right now, so thats helpful in being at peace. In the meantime, I'm eating great stuff and not feeling deprived. What more can a person ask?

I'm continuing in my plan to eat a cross-over or two each week as well. Until I started doing that, I was continually gaining. Related? Not positive, but its a pleasant plan anyway. I had some real hummus, and some chicken salad with apples and pecans this weekend that really hit a spot.

I think I shall celebrate with a lovely oat waffle with pineapple-cherry compote for breakfast today.

O and a non-scale-victory of sorts: Yesterday in my daily walk around the neighborhood, I planned my route so that I went through 2 playgrounds that have a rubberized cushioned area around the permanent play-stations. I did some gentle running on those surfaces and found that my bad knees were OK with that. Its not a lot--maybe 100 feet or so at a stretch, but a place to start. Even that little bit of extra exertion got my heart rate up higher. Another victory---because that would not ever happen when I was on the beta-blocker drug. Those drugs repress your heart rate, and you can barely ever even get it up to 80.

Kids don't realize how good they have it now. When we fell off the swing, we either went face first in the dirt or mud puddle, or maybe into gravel or concrete.

Thanks, Leez! Good for you! I love THM! I've been using it to maintain for a while. I just decided I wanted to get back into my window faster. I'm hoping this will be my last round and then back to THM for life!
