Somehow, even though staying on plan and doing a lot of deepS and FPs I have gained an alarming 4 pounds over the past week while eating all safe (I thought) foods. But apparently something is amiss. And I cannot let this weight gain get even further out of control.

So I'm going to get back into THE PLAN for a while and see if I can figure out what is going on. I'm contemplating a try to get through the whole 20 days this time. If I have anything to report about that, I'll do it in THE PLAN topic.

Hi Leez, sort of jumping in on this forum. I have taken your advice and am checking into the THM program.....I have to say that is pretty confusing and not spelled out as clearly as FMD. I was glad to see this forum for help and input. I am trying to "sort of" compare it to what FMD says too. It seems pretty complicated, did you find it that way? Grammy has such a way of understanding things, she is amazing and makes sense of your questions. I think I am going to keep reading for a bit before I start.
Do you have any advice as to clarifying the program. I have searched many of the sights online and have found some helpful. I am in my 3rd week of FMD and am down a few lbs. My weight has dropped but still fluctuates a bit. At least I am eating Carbs and not reacting like I did before.

Sounds like you are getting a great result from FMD. I'd stay on as long as you can stand it. THM is sort of compatible with FMD, but it has some different rules that can be confusing at first after doing FMD.

I did find THM more complicated, but also more flexible. Its nice to be able to ask yourself what you are hungry for at each meal instead of having to fit your "wants" into the 2-day frameworks of FMD.

It probably took me about 2 months to feel like I had a grip on how to do it correctly. There is a facebook group for THM beginners that you might check out. You have to join to see the content. There is also an old THM forum that isn't as lively as the facebook groups, but is still maintained. You can get a lot of information and recipes there and there are a couple admins and senior members around that answer questions. http://trimhealthymama.freeforums.net/

I have to say that as much as I complained about the cooking and trying to prep, has paid off. I open my freezer and pull out my Phase 1 or Phase 2 dish. It has made it easy. For Phase 3 I pretty much wing it.

How are you doing? From reading the threads in this forum, it sounded like you were going back to The Plan. Is that what you have done?

I truly want to find a plan I can live with and not be obsessed with the food.......and I am sure you can relate.

Yes that's what I'm doing currently. I'm on day 11 right now of the 20 days. It actually takes longer than 20 days, because if you fail a test, you have to do friendly days until your gain drops before you can move on. So it only actually takes 20 days if you pass every test. Which would of course be ideal. I've manage to drop the 4 pound bump that propelled me into THE PLAN this time, but haven't gotten beyond that. I'm hoping that with whatever knowlege I get out of this time through, I can then be successful on THM.

Its looking promising, because I failed two items that I tended to eat regularly on THM. That could be the key for me to be able to maintain if/when I resume it.

Sounds like you are on the right road, good luck!

I do think I will continue on the FMD for a bit and while I am on it, I will start reading the THM book to familiarize myself with the process. It is a lot of information to take in Have a good evening

I'm happy to talk with you in the FMD thread about it if you wish. Or you could start your own.

I've been on THE PLAN for over 6 weeks now. I actually completed the 20 days, and a week of friendly days beyond that. However, I'm sorry to say that I regained most of the progress I made and feel like I'm going to continue gaining. So that experiment is on hold again.

Since the day I started it I had just gained another pound, the 1 pound loss from my start day till now is pretty much a wash.

I'm going to try THM again with avoiding sweet potatos and oats (my two big PLAN fails) and see if that helps me actually make some progress. I'm really hopeful that it will, since they were items I chose regularly before--sometimes I even ate them together.

Except for the day 2 PLAN menu that includes a cup of white rice at dinner and the couple vegetable tests I failed, the food lists have pretty much been no-starch and heavy on good fats. So that means that in THM jargon, I've been in S mode for the last 6 weeks plus some.

My current strategy: I think what I will do is make today and (maybe even tomorrow) an all E day, and then move back into THM but with stubborn loser principles for a while and see what happens. Maybe the shock of seeing some E meals again will jumpstart something in my body. (One can hope!)

What are stubborn loser principles? Basically, pulled back E's and either deepS or light S's, and FP or light E snacks with occasional FP meal. Similar to a fuel cycle, but mixing up the meals in a more free-styling way and keeping them lighter.

So I've been having an E party for the last two days. I did have an S lunch yesterday but that was the only one. I have to say, it was SO nice to not have to eat salads for the last two days.

My weight actually has dropped over a pound too, so that is encouraging. Starting the stubborn losers principles today, so my meals will be:

Breakfast E (creamy grains with a succulent Colorado peach - so good.)
    Lunch: light S
    Dinner: deepS

If I need a snack it will be light S also.

I think I will not try to make the breakfasts too pulled back. Hopefully that will keep me from getting too hungry with lighter meals the rest of the day. So I had a full E portion this morning, and I'll see how I do with that, and maybe try to lighten breakfast after a few days.

    THM update:

I'm about 4 days into using the stubborn loser recommendations, and yesterday I tried doing an FP for breakfast.

I think I was right that I need to keep my breakfasts more substantial. I tried an FP breakfast with one of the FP Big Boys yesterday, and even though I felt satisfied, the rest of the day I noticed that I was wanting to eat more at other meals. I ended up wanting a dessert after my deepS dinner which is unusual for me. I went ahead and had the dessert and just didn't eat the evening snack, so it probably worked out fine. This morning I'm having a chia pudding with blueberries, which is probably my favorite S breakfast.

Progress wise, its been up and down each day, but I'm about a pound lower than before I did the two mostly all E days about a week ago.

Logging a headache last night which is very unusual for me. I also woke up with remnants of the headache. I'm wondering if it might be using just too much xylitol in one day. (I used it in 3 meals out of the 4, probably not a good idea.) I'm going to go sweetener-free today and see if things improve. I've already stopped using stevia, because I've had a couple of scratchy/tight-throat reactions to it recently. Also it was producing a horrible aftertaste that lasts for hours. I think I've probably become sensitive to it.

I found a recipe for hummus that uses raw zucchini, which has inspired me to adapt my own recipe. I like the E hummus, but I miss the tahini. Using the zucchini instead of chick peas will move it into an approved S. I'm thinking I might add some pea protein to the recipe, not just for the added protein, but also to give some of the beany texture of the chickpeas. I'll report back and let you know if it is successful.

I am feeling hopeful again. The unexplained gains are always so disturbing for me. If I could point to something I did wrong, I would be ok with fluctuating upward time to time, but it often happens after what I think was a really (what seems like) a good eating day. And then several more days of gain can follow even though I'm doing whatever is supposed to bring you back down from a gain. It can be so frustrating.

There are obviously still parts of my personal puzzle that I haven't figured out yet.
