You can have coffee on THM, and the trimmies are coffee based. Its FMD that wants you to avoid coffee and dairy. But I found that FMD works just as well for me with coffee and dairy, so after the first 28 days without, I didn't restrict it after that on FMD.

I did FMD between my last two rounds (for about 6 months) and have been doing THM since December of 2015. So a little over a year.
Its pretty easy to do FMD without the book if you get the iPhone app.

You can follow THM without the special ingredients just by separating fuels and keeping the right timing between meals. But if you want to make the trimmies I talked about above, you need collagen hydrosylate (the kind of gelatin that doesn't set), sunflower lecithin, whey protein isolate, and MCT oil. (and on-plan sweetener if you like sweet coffee.) You can make a pretty good non-dairy blended coffee drink just with MCT oil and plain gelatin though. So you can work your way up to the other stuff if you find the eating style is compatible with you and want to stay on it.

If you decide to do THM, you do need the book. Its great to have the cookbook too, because the recipes in there teach you how to adapt your long time favorites so that you can enjoy them on plan.

    Thought I'd do a THM check-in.

Looking from the first of this year, I'm down about 3 pounds. That makes me super happy, because my jeans are comfortable again and I'm not feeling puffy.

I'm not sure how much to attribute that to THM, or to the 6 day trip away this past week, because before we left, I had had a couple pound gain. I was pleasantly surprised to find the scale saying I had lost those plus one more while away. I was careful about what I ate while away, but I didn't consciously try to cut back, and I enjoyed several yummy restaurant meals. Also, since my last report, I have tried a week of FMD rotations (which produced no loss) hoping to drop some before the trip. Although, I did follow THM principles in that week. So I guess it was more of a re-arranged fuel cycle than an FMD week.

At any rate, I seem to finally be making progress chipping away at my THM gain, most of which happened the first month I was on it in Jan 2016. 4 pounds to go before I get back to my starting point weight. Can it be done? I guess we'll see.

I'm keeping an eye on this! Thank you for sharing. I'm new here, but I lost almost 100 lbs on hcg 5 years ago, had a baby, regained it all, and now I'm back on hcg because I know it works! I never got a chance to really do much of P4 though I was able to maintain between rounds. I already have all the THM books in case that way of eating works for me in P4.

    hey sunshine

You are going to have several chances to practice maintenance while you work your way back down again. I really think that is one of the biggest benefits and value of the waiting times between HCG rounds. If we can figure it out before we hit goal weight, we have a good chance of keeping our results.

I do think that THM is the most sustainable of all the strategies I've tried. So I hope my tweaking will eventually get me there. Wishing you all the best.

    Thank you, Leez!

I was initially planning to eat ""Keto" style to maintain, but I am concerned about how that would work for me long-term. I've been unable to lose weight on Atkins, but I maintain well on it. Yet I think it is too hard on my adrenals. I have PCOS, and in my mid-40's hormonal changes are ahead. Yikes! But I'm excited there are good options for the future.

Hi Ladies, and Happy Sunday! I'm on my last 5 days of a 23 day round of HCG. I lost 30 pounds last year and gained 20 back, so I'm on it again... down 16 (including 4 of load) so far. I've been looking into doing THM and noticed ya'all chatting. I have a couple questions I hope you can answer... Can I do THM for phase 3 or do I need to wait till phase 4? Also, are you losing weight on the program or just maintaing? I need to lose another 20 to 24 pounds and wondering if I should just do another round of HCG in a few weeks or try to lose it on THM? Thank so much!

I wouldn't start THM for P3. Although you could do it by eating all S meals, you really need to concentrate on keeping your weight steady in P3 without having to juggle a lot of rules and get distracted by them. There are also a few things allowable in THM S meals that are not a good idea to eat during P3, and you would have to sort that out.

My advice: Spend your 21 days of P3 enjoying your good fats, proteins and veggies, and wait to start THM when you hit P4.

Some people can lose on THM. I haven't been one of them. But it is good for maintaining for me. You can certainly give it a try, and if it works, you'll be losing while eating lots of yummy stuff.

I would think that wine is considered a fruit juice, and no juices are on plan. They want you to eat the whole fruit. Probably the advice would be, if you decide to have it anyway, to balance it with some protein to slow the sugar spike. And then start again in 3 hours.

Note that does not apply to P3. You can mess up your P3 by going off plan even once or twice.

Dry wine (red or white according to the book) is allowed, but they suggest no more than 5 oz a day. I believe it can be either an E or an S. I have a Nook version of the THM book and wine is discussed on page 186.

Jmrr is right. Dry white wine only. They suggest you can use sweetener in it if you only like sweet wines.
