Back from ISRAEL and DOWN 2 lbs. - WOW!!

    Hello Everyone,

I just returned from a 10 day vacation in Israel. It was beautiful, and I ate plenty of the most delicious and freshest food I've ever had. My weight on the morning the day I left was 145.4, Today it was 143.4. I've been in P4 a couple of years, and I didn't take a scale with me. I also had 3 meals a day most of time. which is something I don't do here at home.

Some of the foods I ate on a regular basis were:

Croissants w/Fruit Spread (Daily for Breakfast)
French fries or potato wedges - I'm not normally a fry person, but Israel's fries were so good and unlike anything I've had in the US
    Roasted Chicken Legs & Thighs
Ground Beef, Lamb, or Goat Meatballs
    Beef Brisket
    Sauteed Chicken Livers
Hummus w/Pita (OMG, I'll never eat Hummus from the store again)
Fresh Fruit - Pears, Dates,Apples, Apricots, Kumquats
    Israeli Ruffles Potato Chips
    Israeli Cheetos
    White Chocolate Valentine Bear
    Fresh Green Beans
    Fresh Salads
    Lemonade

I was truly amazed when I stepped on the scale today expecting to be up at least 5-7 pounds, and was so shocked that I reweighed myself on two different scales at least 3 times. I can say that we did walk at least 5 miles each day during the trip, so perhaps that is the reason for the loss, but I'll take it.

Has anyone else returned from a vacation at a lower weighr after eating so heartily on vacation???

Did you actually feel like you had gained weight before you stepped on the scale?

I usually come home from trips weighing the same or a bit less. But I'm really careful when traveling not to eat any of my sensitivity foods or anything refined. I eat a lot of protein bars when away instead of meals, if there is not a situation where I can get quality "safe" food.

Maybe I should be less careful. Awesome report.

Although I didn't eat any of my sensitive foods while away, it felt like I was overeating - especially all the carbs (rice, pita bread, croissants, fries) on a daily basis which I don't eat here at home very often at all. A friend even made the following comment one night during dinner as she looked at my plate " How can you eat so much and stay so small ?"

There was no change in the way my clothes were fitting, but my face seemed a bit puffier than usual, so I really did expect to be up a few pounds.

Protein bars are one thing that do seem to cause me to gain for some reason, and I definitely steered away from them since most of the packaged and snack foods in Israel have brand names and ingredients listed in Hebrew & Arabic only, with not a word of English. Even the Frito Lay products have no English words on the bag, but it did help me recognize and learn the brand symbols in those languages - LOL!

Most of them have problem ingredients for me. However, I have found a brand of protein bar that works for me, so I just take a stash of those whenever I travel.

One of the things that Lyn Genet talks about in The Plan is that there is this thing called "the joy factor". You might having a great time being out with friends which creates some kind of metabolic positive force. So you might overindulge, but your body just handles it without a big gain or bloat. Your story sounds like there might be something to that theory.

What an awesome report! I've heard others mention it too. The food in other countries doesn't contain a lot of the junk in ours.

I agree with you, that has to be it. I noticed that obesity doesn't seem to be as rampant among the population as it is here in the US.

I forgot to mention the Authentic Hot Soft Bavarian-Style Pretzels (Yummy) that I had when connecting through the airport in Germany both ways which I had as a mid-day snack . I also tried Lentils with Rice for the first time in Israel, and was blown away at how good those were.

Unfortunately, it's time to get back to "food reality" here at home -
