I was hoping that eating the fats, which is supposed to actually be good for you and avoiding the grain carbs, which is supposed to be bad for you (contrary to conventional wisdom) would work out given time, but I am now wondering if I need to reduce the saturated fats, especially the daily eggs and go back to eating oatmeal and cherrios for breakfast, or maybe go see a doctor to get on cholestorl meds. My cholestrol was about 187 before I started the first P2 at 174 lbs. Now I am at 129lbs, but have 233 cholestorl level. DH's has been on cholestrol meds for a few years and his is controlled, so don't know how the P3 type diet has effected him.
Okay, I need to warn you about cholesterol meds (statins, like Lipitor)...Hubby and I used to take those, and they had horrible side effects (one of those cases where the "cure" is worse than the disease!). Read about the dangers HERE...

I took both of us off of statins and asked my doctor to recommend something more "natural", and she said to try large doses of niacin. Now we take 1000mg (two 500mg) capsules in the morning and 1000mg with dinner, as well as Pantethine 450mg three times a day, and as I said, our cholesterol is normal now! The pharmaceutical companies make a huge profit off of statins, and therefore encourage doctors to push them on people (without mentioning any more natural remedies). We had muscle damage in the legs and brain drain effects (way too many "senior moments" for our age, and loss of memory way beyond normal). Once we were off - it took several months before we were back to normal! Please don't go there! Read the articles on that page please!

He has lost 11 lbs since we started the VLCD last this past Tuesday, which I think is incredible. I personally think it is great bc he has quit drinking nightly (he feels a couple beers isn't that bad for you, hahaha, so many calories and carbs!) and after he drinks, he has a late night meal. No joke we calculated that he eats/drinks 1000 cals after I go to bed. That is insane to me. I am not a huge eater, just can't seem to lose weight and he eats a ton and still only needs to lose 30 lbs or so. But he has high blood pressure and has been on meds for years now. He is only 31. I wish he could change his lifestyle and get on board with losing the weight. He claims he learned a bit from doing this and will change his eating/drinking habits but I highly doubt much has happened during 5 days to make him change. I am really disappointed about this bc I feel like we could have really supported each other through this and seen some great changes in our marriage.

And it doesn't help to hear his negativity about something I am really trying to stick with. I need this. I have tried so hard to lose this pregnancy weight for almost 2 years and I just can't. So this is my last chance and I have gotten to the point of not liking to go out in public bc of my weight. Like people wonder why I haven't lost the baby weight in nearly 2 years after giving birth. Obviously my own hang ups but still, I need my confidence back.
You do this for you. You cannot carry your hubby thru it. He's an adult and can make up his own mind. Of course, men lose easier and faster than women, and seem to be able to get away with a lot of cheating much of the time.

IMO getting the sugar and gluten/starch/flour off the menu and out of the pantry will go a LONG way to solving the family's present and future weight/health problems.

If you haven't already, pick up a couple of books:

Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It by Gary Taubes

The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf

The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson

You take care of you. (I would make sure NOT to complain in front of him if he has any tendency to try to talk you out of the diet.) Many times, that is what convinces the family that what we are doing is valid and worthwhile.

    Good luck!
Just read Weight Loss Apocalypse which gave me new resolve.
Currently getting back to the ticker weight.

Thanks for this info! I've been taking statins for awhile and definitely will strongly consider the options!

Welcome to P3, Jeff & Ceridwen. Sounds like you're both off to a good start! Those first couple of days of being able to eat again are just divine, aren't they?

I have been SO happy with my P3 so far using the Leptin Reset plan. I'm on day 8 and am sitting squarely on LDW. In the last 2 rounds I'd have done a steak day by now. Yesterday I had FFF for lunch to test how I do with dairy. Was down .2 today so looks like I'm ok with it, at least in limited quantitites. I will still steer clear of cheese for a while as that is usually where I overdo. It continues to amaze me that one can go from eating 500 calories to eating 2000 and not just baloon back up. And I only did a 15 day round so I'm really pleased! Think I may do another in mid-January so I can get into the little red dress.

Sunday is hockey day around here. DS has only 2 games today, but one's outside (brrr). Wonder if there's snow on the rink!

    Have a great day y'all!

You'll enjoy it more having 1/2 cup as a special treat when you're really hungry for it than you would stuffing it down during loading. I hbought a pint of toasted coconut ice cream for my last round and it just didn't even taste good

Esorb--Sorry DH is being a schlub! But Itsy is right, do this for you. If he isn't into it, but can still support you doing it, then you'll be ine. And you might find your good habits wear off on him eventually. If he's only 31 he isn't to old to be taught new tricks!

BarbaraS - Sorry to hear you were down! I hope you are feeling better now.

Mary - Oh no! Give that ice cream to the neighbors so you aren't tempted now. That would be weighing too much on my mind to have it near. Wishing you the best round ever!!

Ceridwen, Beth, and Ronni - Great info on cholesterol! Thanks for sharing. I was so sad when my mom wouldn't listen to me and decided to go with the statins. Argh.

Jeff - Congrats on that cushion going into P3.

Lydia - Glad the Leptin Reset is working for you! Are you eating the full 50+ grams of protein for breakfast? I was thinking of going for the Leptin Reset again beginning tomorrow. I tried last round but could never manage to eat that much food first thing in the morning.

AFM - Down 0.9 today and hit my second goal which was 140!!!

Everyday, I am having no trouble getting in the 50 grams. Took a while to work up to it. I've been making stuff in the crock pot so the whole house smells yummy when I get up. Makes me hungry and then I eat! I love anything braised so that's worked well.

I normally eat a salad or roast beef sandwich, neither which are terribly unhealthy but a whole more fat/cals than what I eat now. It was a little depressing to watch everyone else eat. And I usually share an ice cream cone with my girls too and I had to miss out on that. That made me the most sad but I made it through.

One last question...any advice on eating out? I am so tired of having to take my food with me everywhere? How can I make eating out work for me? Ask for no oil on my meat? I feel silly. Ugh. Do you ask for specific veggies or pick around what they give you? I feel like eating out seems impossible on P2!
You can DO THIS!! I had a tough time on my last round because hubby wanted to do it with me, but was a tad negative at times. I did change the way he eats now - He chooses to stick to P3-type eating now. He lost about 10lbs and is keeping it off. He just had a tough time fitting in the protocol with his work schedule.

Itsy is right on the complaining thing - keep your bad days to yourself. If he isn't fired-up about the diet, it will only feed your depression to get agreement on your bad days instead of a kick in the pants. Stay on the forum - post your whines and complaints and grumblies HERE. We can help get ya thru! I'm sure someone has been where you are at some point.

GOOD JOB keeping to protocol at Disney!!!!! That is huge! You will be happy that you worked that hard! Yesterday I made a huge homemade meal for my family - and didn't eat a thing! It's tough, but I've decided that cheating in P2 is NOT worth the pain.

This is the beginning of a whole new way of USING food and learning how food works in our bodies. You have to find that balance for yourself. One of the emotional triggers for overeating is the approval of someone else. It's time to know what YOU need and do what YOU need - regardless of someone else's opinions. I'm not saying that your hubby isn't important in your life, but it might be time for you to sever your eating habits from your emotional relationship with him. I know this very well. I'm a pleaser and I can't stand it if my hubby is unhappy with me. The thing is, that's just life. We are never happy with our loved ones 24/7. We have to create new ways to deal with unhappy and angry feelings - ways that won't use food to medicate our hearts (because by doing so, it lands on our butts). LOL!!!

Just checking in before going back to move more. The new house is set up with the essentials for them and their first night there went really well. We had dinner- I brought over pre-fabbed Costco stuff but still, it felt like dinner - able to eat at the table with real dishes and all so called it a big success for first big moving day. Going back to get the rest- the annoying stuff and a couple of dressers. Still have to figure out how to get the freezer out. All the beds are set up, tv's, and living room so it felt like home by 5 pm. Still have more kitchen stuff to retrieve, freezer food and all but still. We did well.

EVERY muscle in my body hurts. LOL. Ate badly and still at ldw- 140.5 so all good in my book. Going to go take a shower and get ready for another nasty day. Taking the truck back today.
