    need advice on weight gain

    hi grammy,

i'm about to start my 2nd week of p4, and i'm about 4 pounds over my LIW. I still only eat p3 foods because I feel like I am constantly trying to eat high protein to keep my weight under control. The only foods I eat are beef/chicken/turkey, avocado, bacon on occasion (im paranoid about there being sugar in it) and veggies, although i've even been cutting back on those for high protein days. I did add in some sugar free chocolate that had approved ingredients and found it made me gain so I cut it out. The only other non-kosher thing I have is alcohol. I just moved abroad to Dublin to start school here and it's impossible not to go out and have a few drinks at this stage because that is how everyone is making friends. I stick to vodka/club soda-never any beer or sugary things and don't really even have wine. My first week here my weight stayed in my 2 lb range (my LIW is 144.2) at about 145.5. Then I had one night of drinking and my weight bounced up to 146.5. So I did a steak day per protocol and went down to about 146. Even with high protein days I couldn't get lower than this. I went out another night and drank some alcohol and now am at 148, which is 4 pounds over. I did a steak day yesterday and didn't lose any weight from it when I weighed in this morning. I'm pretty bummed that I'm 4 pounds over, and am not sure how to get things back under control since I don't have things to cut out like nuts, dairy, eggs etc. Obviously I haven't gone out drinking the last few days but that doesn't seem to make a difference in losing the weight-it only caused the gain. I feel like these 4 pounds are going to be stuck on me and I don't want to have to do another round.

I don't know if maybe the constant steak days are causing me to not get enough calories, or if I need to start exercising, or if maybe I'm eating too much (normally around 1800-2000 cals) and need to cut back. I drink at least 3 liters of water a day and am not getting TOM. Sorry for the long winded message, just very frustrated. Thanks in advance!

You've lost a lot of weight, honey. Sometimes those who have lost a lot stabilize about 3-5 pounds over. Your body fights to go back to that higher weight so we have to fight back even harder. Take a look at what you've had to eat the last few days and check to see if you're getting enough fats. And you might be eating too much protein and not enough fats. I've been seeing people do well lately with Nora Gedgaudas' protocol of restricting protein to about 50 grams and upping fats and veggies.

And it sounds to me like you need to stop the alcohol. You can go out with your friends but just have club soda with a twist of lime. You don't have to stay home just because you're not going to drink. There seems to be something in it that's affecting your weight. Or just sip on a glass of wine the entire night. Are you drinking enough water too? Alcohol is dehydrating so you have to drink more water to compensate.

thanks for the response grammy. i definitely get in enough fats- i have usually 1-2 TBSP coconut oil every day, plus a whole avocado between my meals and use butter or olive oil for cooking. i knew there was a possibility i would stabilize higher than my LIW, but i was very stable at that weight for my first 2 weeks of P3 and only a pound over LIW for a few weeks after that. It wasn't until I started gaining from the alcohol that my weight went up and stayed up. This leads me to believe my body could have stabilized where I ended my round had I not messed it up with the drinking. I'd really like to get back down to that point so that I could try to stabilize there, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. I will definitely have to stop the alcohol as that is surely what is causing the problem. Do people ever have any success trying to lose weight without HCG in/after p4? Is it possible to do this through exercise? I've read that people started gaining when they added in exercise and I'm afraid this will happen. Thanks!

Give it a few more days then try a steak day again once the inflammation subsides. hang in there! I've never had any success losing any other way but hcg.

You should not be drinking that much milk in P3, especially SKIM milk. And you're having a lot of dairy. I would cut out all the iffy things like nuts, dairy and jay robb shakes. You're not eating nearly enough calories or fats either.
