Thread: REALLY need help!!

    REALLY need help!!

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to the HCH diet and am having such a hard time. I think the issue is dosing, but I'm not sure. My details: injectable HCG from a physician's practice; 3,500IU/100 mg; mixed with 5ml BAC; starting dose 0.22 ml. 42 day protocol, 500 cals/day. Goal of losing 20 lbs. I am on day 14 of VLCD and have lost 6 lbs. Frustrated with the low weight loss, but the bigger problem is how I feel. Lost about 1 pound per day for the first 4 days, then hit a stall for 4 days--increased my water intake on day 9 and lost another pound day 10. During these first 10 days I was hungry every day, all day, but a couple of those days I was starving, and I mean like scary crazy starving. I could not think clearly and when speaking words would get jumbled or I couldn't think of the words I wanted to say. Before I started the diet the nurse told me that since I did not have that much weight to lose I could increase calories to 750 per day if I felt lightheaded. I tried that a couple of days during the first 10 days (by increasing veggie intake) and I did not feel better--still had a scary starving day. So on day 11 I skipped a dose. That day I felt great all day...not hungry, not scary starving, had good energy, and the next morning had lost 1.2 lbs. Day 12 I lowered dose to 0.17 ml and was uncomfortably hungry all day. Day 13 same dose and same feeling of great hunger but also very weak, and no weight loss. I did start to feel better at the end of day 13, but woke up hungry day 14. Today (day 14), I lowered the dose again, this time to 0.14 ml. Same level of hunger but slightly less fatigue. As it is getting into later evening now I am feeling less hungry, but I don't mean like normal hungry....I mean like I haven't eaten for days kind of hungry. I have woken up hungry every morning except the morning of the day I skipped a dose. I have not gone off of protocol at all, and I am using only diet safe personal care products. I am drinking at least 64 oz of water/tea each day. Hot tea does not help the hunger. I really have no idea what to do. Do I raise calories by increasing protein intake? Do I lower my dose again, and if so, by how much?? Or is my dose too low, and if so how much higher should it be?? I have read that menopausal women sometimes need a much lower dose so perhaps that is part of the issue as well?? I know something is off since the only day I have felt well is the day I sipped a dose, and I have had one 4 day stall and one 3 day stall, all in the first 14 days! I am determined to stick with it, but if I feel awful most of the time and am not losing weight what's the point? Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!!

According to your mixing ratio you started on a dose of 150iu.

When you drew to 17 you were just under 125iu. From your description of your skip day that was the right way and amount to adjust.

Lowering to 14 put you at 100iu. Since you didn't skip a day before lowering, it will take a couple more days before your dose settles in. (HCG overlaps for 3 days in your body). So I would stay where you are for the next two days and then assess again. 100iu is not too low if thats what your body tolerates best. You can go as low as 80iu before it becomes too low to be effective. If your dose is right, you do not need more calories. Calorie amount doesn't determine effectiveness and hunger suppression. The dose does that.

You can do another skip day after 4 days at the same dose if you need to.

Your experience with losing after the first dose reduction should tell you that a dose too high can cause poor losses as well as hunger. Once you get it right, it should be smooth sailing on both for the rest of your round.

Thank you so much, Leez. Your suggestions are so helpful. I will do what you have suggested and let you know how it goes. Thank you again!!

Leez, could you explain how you did the math to get my starting dose from my mixing ratio? I have tried the formula I found in another of your posts, and I must be doing something wrong.

Divide the IUs by the ml of water: 3500iu divided by 5 = 700

    for dose of 150iu
    150 divided by 700 = .214

    dose of 125iu
    125 divided by 700 = .178

    dose of 100iu
    100 divided by 700 = .14

    Formula explained here:

Back for more help...(my details are in the first post in this thread). In the last week I have lost 0.4 pounds. That seems ridiculous!! After lowering to 14 and staying there for 4 days, I am at another stall. My hunger has been much less on the dose of 14, but I'm not losing weight and now the hunger seems to be increasing. Is it time to skip a dose again, or should I try lowering the dose again? I am on day 19 of VLCD (so have had 18 injections since I did a skip day), and I have lost a total of 6.4 pounds. I have no clue what to do. The nurse and the assistant at the clinic do not respond to my questions. If I lower the dose again I would be below 100iu, but maybe that's what I need to do??? Or is it time for an apple day? Thanks for any input!!

You can do another skip day. Lets see how you feel after 4pm and into the evening of the skip day. That effectively lowers your dose immediately enough to let you know which way to adjust.

Along with hunger, poor losses indicate a dose problem. But, read through the menu items allowed again just to see if you may be inadvertently eating something off protocol that could be hindering your losses:

Ok this will be a skip day. I have read through the menu items several times and I have had nothing outside of the foods allowed. The only slight difference is that I was told to have an apple, orange or grapefruit for breakfast, and to have the other allowed fruit as a snack before dinner. That is the protocol the clinic follows. The manuscript says there is no objection to breaking up the two meals so this seems like it would not make a difference but perhaps? This is maddening!

You are fine with splitting up your meals however it works best for you. Breaking up the meals is permitted in the protocol.

I used fruit as my in between meals too. I always enjoyed the afternoon fruit with a cup of special tea and melba. It always seemed like a treat. My favorite combo was Constant Comment tea with an orange and Finn Crisp rye cracker.

I always look forward to my afternoon fruit and tea too! I felt better as the day went on, only normal hunger later afternoon/dinner time, and I had more energy in the evening. So, is it time to lower the dose again? If I go to 13 I will be less than 100 iu, but what other options are there? I have not been exercising because I was told not to since that would burn up the very low amount of calories taken in. I could add that in, but it seems the sick hungry feeling would be worse. I have been racking my brain about what might be causing the poor losses, etc. Is it possible to be resistant to hcg? Several years ago I took hcg for fertility related reasons. I took it part of each month for an extended period of time, over a year but probably less than two years. I don't recall the dose or any of the specifics.

13 would be a bit over 90iu. (But always check the math for yourself.)

It's safe to go as low as 80iu. So I would try the 85iu (.12 on your syringe) tomorrow since you felt better in the evening.

If that doesn't work, it may be that you are experiencing the onset of immunity.

I have been trying 12.5 or as close as I can get to that, and I feel much better!!! The weight loss is still so ridiculously slow though. I'm trying not to obsess on that. What happens when immunity sets in? Do you adjust dose, or do you end the injection phase, or ??
