    Moving into P4 soon!

This is my last week on p3 which I've enjoyed but am anxious to get through p4 and start another round.
I find it amusing that I was so excited to have lost almost 20# but now it's not enough... I need to lose more! I'm starting to see myself as fat again even though I'm not as heavy as I had been before this round. If my next round losses are as slow as this one was I am anticipating 2 more rounds. The last round will be a shorter round.

I think we all go through that. Have someone take some pictures of you so you can see yourself as you really look. The mirror just doesn't cut it. LOL

Hi Grammy! That is an excellent idea!! I despise having my picture taken but it would just for me to see so I can deal with it.

Today is day one on P4 for me. My weight has stabilized nicely. I did do some research on here but am still a little confused how to transition into p4.
From what I have found you are no longer eating the high fat foods or not as much, don't mix carbs with fats, increase fruits and vegetables the first week and then on the second week very slowly introduce grains but stay away from white anything or processed foods.

Personally I like the birch xylitol so well that I won't be adding sugar back into my diet. I tend to make everything homemade anyway so processed foods will not be in my diet at all.
Is there anything else that anyone can share with me? Can I still have MCT coffee? I have switched back to decaf coffee but started adding in HWC to it is that still ok to do or would that be too much fat?

Congrats mew -- achieving stability is awesome!

P4 is where you are still testing. But what you are testing for now is to find your levels of starches, sugars and fats.

So you can take that at any speed that works for you. Your plan sounds pretty logical. Not combining starch and fat seems to be an important key, so yes, pay attention to that. I separate my fats from starches by meal. You can switch back and forth if there is at least 3 hours between. I have also found, for me, that I can have a little bit of fat with a starch meal, so like a tsp or so doesn't seem to make any difference. You can add a lot of flavor with that tsp, so that was a nice realization. You'll naturally reduce your fat consumption by eating this way.

I like the birch xylitol too. I like it even better with a tiny bit of powdered stevia extract mixed in. It makes the xylitol go farther and it cancels any aftertastes of either. Theres a recipe in my blog for it.

MCT coffee is perfectly fine to continue. I like that, on days when I'm just sick of protein, I can painlessly get some in with the MCT/gelatin coffee. And of course the MCT is quick energy for your body when you need a pick-me-up. Its a mistake to look at MCT oil as fat except for combining rules. (And I'm not even positive about that.) Although it is an oil, it is not processed as fat. Its no problem to either use half& half or MCT coffee. You'll just need to find what works for you.

If you have any kind of digestive issues, its a good idea to soak grains (and nuts) overnight before using. Pour off the soaking water before cooking, because it is what contains the phytic acid that you are trying to get rid of to make the grains more easily digestible.

Hey Leez! Thanks for all of that information. I had never heard about soaking grains overnight. That does make sense though. So even soaking brown rice?
Do you even eat bread? I am actually too nervous to go down that path again. I glad to hear that about the MCT oil. I had never heard of it before I saw your post on here about it. I really like it too.

You're welcome! I research and experiment with stuff all the time, so I'm glad to pass on what I've learned.

Yes, brown rice can be soaked too. You'll get a little softer texture than unsoaked brown rice and it cooks in about half the time.

Sprouted grain breads are the best ones for digestibility. I have found that I can even eat them in the second half of P3 because the sprouted grains are digested more like a vegetable. So yes, sprouted breads can have gluten and starch, but its a better choice than flour breads. You can find Food For Life's Ezekiel breads pretty much everywhere now. They'll mostly be in the health section of the frozen foods, but Trader Joes' has them on the fresh bread racks.

I love the ezekial bread! I will definitely get a loaf to try it out.

On another note my hot flashes have come back 10 fold. I can't sleep because when they hit in the night I wake up feeling like I'm suffocating. Not only do I feel that it is from the caffeine but I'm feeling very suspicious of the HWC. I'm assuming it will take a few days to a week to get worked out of my system after going off of them. It's just not worth it to me to continue my coffee routine feeling like this. I'm currently sitting here with an on going nearly 2 hour long hot flash... Honestly the worst one I've ever experienced... And yet I still sit here mourning the loss of my coffee

I completely sympathize....6 years and nothing has been able to stop my hot flashes, not even BHRT. The worst part is the interrupted sleep. Thankfully, coffee doesn't trigger mine, but when I did the first month of FMD, I gave up coffee and tried to find some substitute that I could enjoy. Teas don't have enough body for me, so that was not a solution. What I finally ended up with was Cafix. (I tried several, but Cafix was the best one, I thought.) It is a grain-based beverage made from non-GMO crops and it is actually pleasant when consumed black. I used double the amount the jar recommends. If you are die-hard coffee drinker, you'll likely want it more potent than recommended on the jar. You might give it a try.

The other thing I found was hibiscus tea. Its really flavorful--reminiscent of unsweetened cranberry juice. But don't bother with tea bags. I got some whole hibiscus flowers and just pour hot water over them in your cup and steep a couple minutes. The flowers sink to the bottom, so there is no need to use a strainer or tea ball or anything.

new, your hot flashes may have come back because the effects of hcg have worn off. It takes about 6 weeks for hormonal levels to fall back to previous levels. I'd go see a bioidentical hormone doctor if I were you.

Grammy I have looked into bioidentical hormones but it is just way out of our price range and our insurance doesn't cover it and my regular doctor didn't recommend it because of the endometriosis. I guess they worry it would cause it to come back?

The flashes were pretty bad a couple of months before starting this round of hcg and once I had the HCG in my system initially they came back big time. They did taper off after awhile though. It's been bad since I added the coffee back into my diet, about a week an a half and it may have taken that long because I was only drinking one cup a day initially but that soon went up to 3 cups.

Leez you have intrigued me once again. Tea's don't cut it for me because they aren't "full bodied", although I do enjoy iced tea in the summer months, I could drink that all day long. So I made up a pitcher of decaf iced tea and am working on that today. I have been really really bad at getting my water intake in lately so maybe that is also contributing to my crazy hot flashes.
What exactly does the Cafix taste like? Do you use it in your MCT "coffee"?

Thats what I liked about the hibiscus tea....you can make it so it is full-bodied. After it steeps for a few minutes, it gets really strong. Probably would be good iced too, and if you sweetened it, I think it would taste very much like cranberry juice ****tail.

Now thats an interesting idea....that I didn't think to try.

Its kind of hard to describe the flavor. Its smoother than coffee, but has a little bite thats nice. It is very subtley sweet, like the sweet you would imagine a liquid from cooking grains might be. And it really does have body, if you use 2 heaping teaspoons full rather than the one they suggest. If you would like, send me your mailing address in a PM here on the forum and I'll send you some to try. In fact, I'll send you some Pero too, so you can compare.
