I just thought I would mention that if you are taking B-12, you should also take a multiple B with it. If you do not, the B-12 leaches out the rest of your B vitamins. I have pernicious anemia and my endocrinologist stress this all the time..."don't forget your big B!" it feels good to just do something for ourselves, doesn't it?

I am new too, so don't have much experience, but I heard or saw somewhere on a blog here that the melba toast sometimes may cause hunger for some people. It's on the protocol so Dr. Simeon put it there for a reason, but maybe it's on a person to person basis... see how you do without it for a day or so.. and sub it for veggies or something.. just an idea... I have been feeling hungry too.. and eating melba toast.. going to try it without today.. see how I feel.

Also found out turkey burgers are for sure a no no.... gained .5 ate it yesterday..

Some food lists say green beans and broccoli are on protocol, some leave them off. What is your opinion on these two veggies?

    Thanks!

I drink alot of water... I know I can be in danger of losing the potassium in my body.. which can be dangerous...

Should I take any addt'l supplement to replace the potassium lost... ???? what about magnesium and vitamin b complex? I already take b12 but seems like not enough...
What about bowel movements, can I take psyllium husk pills and cascara sagrada to output?

Oh, so many questions... sorry, but I read through these threads and all these things come to mind...

    Thanks, all!!!!

most can eat broccoli okay. Green beans are dangerous though, at least I would consider them dangerous.

rovelf, you can take magnesium and potassium as well as b12 if you make sure there is no sugar in it. I'd be careful about the psyllium husks, etc. The magnesium should help with that.

I have two children who would love to hear that green beans are dangerous :O) but I'm not telling. Thanks for responding to all of my beginner questions.

    VLCD D2 weight loss normal?

    Hello,
I am brand new and have been reading everything on the boards for the past couple weeks to get prepared.

Today was VLCD D2 R1 (I hope I got that right) and this morning I lost 4.4 lbs. Is that normal and should I expect much lower numbers as the days/weeks go on? I am on the injectables 150 iu.

I drank a little over a gallon yesterday and I'm finding today that I feel full after eating a meal but can't get my fruit in. I saved the apple for snack and was only able to eat about half.

Also, having trouble sleeping, but I feel pretty good. Don't want to make that a habit though.

    Thanks!

Sounds like your dose is good since you feel full after eating. Great weight loss but yes that will slow down. About 8 pounds total in the first week is pretty common. Women average .5-.75 pounds per day over the life of the round. Good luck!

Try melatonin to help with sleeping.

How do I tie my snacks into the diet. I have been having my two meals per protocol, do I just adjust snacks with approved foods and calories remaining from the meals? I'm so confused! Here is what I have been doing...Ex: Breakfast: Coffee with truvia Lunch: 100g crockpot chicken, 100g raw spinach, 1 apple, 1 melba toast Snack: 100g celery Dinner: 100g Talapia, 5 spears of asparagus, melba toast, orange Snack: 5 strawberries with 1 pk truvia---Is this right? Am I doing ok? Or do I need to omit the snacks? I just feel like I am messing up somewhere. I'm only on day 3 of VLCD but have lost 2lbs. Also, is it ok if I don't eat 500 cals? most days I get to about 420-440 cals. Any help would be great! So glad I found this community!

jrands - Nix the truvia. It's got carbs. Stevia is it for sweetner on P2 (Equal and Splenda are ok too, but bad for you in other ways). You've got 3 servings of vegetables there. Dr. S says two only. Lunch and dinner. You only had one fruit and you're allowed two. The Truvia is the only serious mess up. It's ok if you don't eat the 500 calories.

    Dr. Simeon's 500 VLCD Diet:
    Breakfast:
Tea or coffee in any quantity without sugar. Only one tablespoonful of milk allowed in 24 hours. Saccharin or Stevia may be used.

    Lunch:
    1. 100 grams of veal, beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp. All visible fat must be carefully removed before cooking, and the meat must be weighed raw. It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat. Salmon, eel, tuna, herring, dried or pickled fish are not allowed. The chicken breast must be removed from the bird.

    2. One type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, chard, chicory, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.

    3. One breadstick (grissino) or one Melba toast.

    4. An apple, orange, or a handful of strawberries or one-half grapefruit.

Dinner : The same four choices as lunch (above.)

NOTE: You can also spread your allowed food out through the day however it works best for you. Have an apple for bfast; chicken and spinach for lunch, strawberries for a snack at around 3 pm and tilapia with asparagus for dinner.
