    Regarding thyroid (diet for p4)

So I have heard it said a bunch of times on here that low carb and keto messes with thyroid/metabolism and adrenals on here. With that said, I never lose weight on a very low carb diet (never works, I feel tired!). But I feel like when I eat carbs I gain. So what is the balance? Been tending toward lower carb (but allowing things like oatmeal 2x week, fruits away from high fat/protein meals), etc. Obviously not working. I do miss quinoa and things like that. What diet is there for a thyroid condition then? Is it like good carbs like quinoa mixed with lower fat proteins? A balance of everything, high carbs 1 meal (say a fruit smoothie with low fat protein), high carbs (quinoa) with low fat ground turkey and veggies (like sweet potato, green bean, kale), or high fat (avocado, coconut oil, chicken thighs) with protein?

What diets are suggested for maintenance and to not mess the thyroid metabolism?
    Started JULY 2015
    Ended 4 rounds November 2016
    -80 pounds!

I keep gaining 20 to 25 of it back, I take off 5 pounds myself and then I do a round and lose 20 lbs. So I have done a total of 7 rounds. I am on my 8th round, taking the SAME 20 lbs off. ugh. But at least I don't gain 80 back!

I think your plan is excellent Balancing carbs like quinoa with plenty of protein should work I try to do lower starches but if i do i eat sweet potato and maybe half slide bread with a meal but not by itself Always two fruits a day for me too And plenty of green veggies Filling and no problem with blood sugar

I wish I knew the answer to your question Cupcakes. I too do not feel well on a strict keto or super low carb diet. I wish I could find the magic formula for me for eating carbs without gaining.

I've been trying to find that balance myself, and seem to be mainly successful with the following strategy.

Keeping carbs away from fats but still having them is probably the best way to get in enough thyroid support without encouraging weight gain. I try to always have protein with my carbs to slow absorption, but keep fats low in that meal. Like to around a tsp or so. The little bit of fat is important to absorb nutrients in the meal.

Also try using grain-free carbs more often, like sweet potatoes or other root vegetables. Using whole grains sprouted, soured, or soaked is optimum. It makes them more digestible and also slows glycemic load.

This is basically the THM (trim healthy mama) way of eating.

I also feel bad on a low carb regimen. I need at least one carb meal a day to feel normal.
