Total Newbie - Starting Round 1, Phase 1 April 11

Seems from what I've read in the threads most skip Phase 1, but maybe that's because many posters are in subsequent rounds.

I first learned about HCG when I did some contract work for a friend. She and her husband own a plastic surgery, skin care and wellness center in south Austin. I watched so many people going through the program successfully. I too needed to make some health changes, but haven't been ready until just recently.

In signing up for the program, I learned that two of my dear friends were also interested, so we're going through the process together and meeting with the Wellness Coordinator once a week in person. I'm so excited especially after looking through the forums. Everyone here is so encouraging and I think I'll be popping in for additional encouragement as well as tips and recipe ideas.

My practitioner thinks I will need to go through three rounds to reach my ideal weight. I've never really been a dieter because I know I'm not very good at being disciplined, but the process seems simple enough and realistic without absolutely crazy do's and don't's, plus even when I get to Phase 2 at 750 calories a day, it seems I won't be starving.

So you pro's . . . Thinking back to the first of your journey, do you have any sage advice for this newbie?

    Hi Kim...welcome here !

I am not a pro by any means....day six of round one....phase two...but for what it's worth...here is
What I am experiencing. It seems as though the more you have to lose, the more you will drop in the first week....another deputy has lost 18 lbs in two weeks...I have lost seven pounds in six days....he was a lot bigger than me to start...

I guess the one striking thing I have figured out is that hcg works. I am taking the drops, and really am not hungry at all....I didn't even want to eat my second fruit last night.

let me know how it goes,ok?

Oh, I like hearing about significant weight loss from the beginning. Can totally see how that would be an encouragement. Thanks for the info!

Hi Kim! Everyone has a different experience during Phase 2 but I can tell you what helps me.

Space out meals and use fruits and snacks in between. If you can't wait until lunch time have one of your fruits for breakfast.
Drinks LOTS of water. I chug a big glass first thing after I weigh in. It helps to keep from having the "empty feeling".
Experiment with spices (check ALL the labels for sugar and starch-don't use any with those).
Sparkling water and rootbeer stevia drops tastes just like rootbeer.
Don't eat anything less than 3 hours before bedtime.
Don't eat the melbas (no longer protocol) but if you can find a grissini breadstick with no sugar in ingredients then that's fine.
Don't stress about day-to-day losses. Look at the overall big picture. Add up all weight lost (including load gain) divided by number of vlc days and that's you're average.

    Best of luck to you!!

Great tips, Randi, thanks! Odd about the Melba toast as that's on the suggested P2 from my practitioner. Wonder why it's no longer protocol.

What starch should I look for in spices? I think the sugars should be easy enough to spot . . .

Its no longer on protocol because it contains sugar. P4C's tips pretty much sums it up. I'm not an expert either i'm only on day 17. But some things that i've chosen to do, not protocol though; is avoiding the grissini, because i know my body doesnt do well w/ carbs and a lot of people end up having cravings because of them. I also decided to skip my fruit on my light days to help keep me in ketosis. but everyone is different and I dont wanna advise anything against protocol. But deff space out ur meals, the first week can sometimes be difficult w/ cravings and hunger. Sugar can hide in seasonings and even in stevia, look out for anything saying sugar or ending in ose (ie dextrose, sucralose, glucose, lol), also starches are simple to watch out, normally it just says some type of "starch". Also look out for seasonings w/, MSG or mono sodium glutimate, also i maltodextrin (starch) try to avoide things that have been hydrolized.

Kim, the Melbas contain dextrose (another name for sugar) now. I think you can find grissinis still without sugar. I just skip them all together because, like captncrunch said, I have carb cravings if I eat them. Here's a blog that lists the common names for sugar. It's a good idea to print the list and keep it in your purse so you'll have it handy at the grocery store. This is also very important for Phase 3.

Read labels for everything, I mean everything. Even Stevia. SweetLeaf is safe put PureVia is not. You wouldn't know that unless you looked at the labels. Starch is usually "_____ starch" (i.e. corn starch or potato starch) and pretty easy to spot.
