i love this thread as well, and am glad we keep it going. I agree its not active, but us P4'ers always come back to post. I think it is more where we can say whats really going on

Glad your getting back to your own bed Rose.. Always nice to get home again

Leez I hope you continue to maintain... I wish it wasn't such a struggle for us. I would love to just be able to find what really works and not have to worry about it again. Wishful thinking!!!

This weekend I started drinking my baobob boost again, and I am packing proper lunches again. I find it is helping me again. So will see how this week goes with that plan.

I love that boost juice drink. I think it helps keep me satisfied between meals too, because of the fiber. It hasn't been a magic potion for weight loss, unfortunately. I'm still looking for my magic potion!

I've been alternating S (low carb) and E (low fat) days this past week and still managed to creep up another pound.

So my dilemma is, do I suck it up and do another round? Or do I try a new strategy?

Because of the time of year (translation: cold weather) I really don't want to start a round now because I freeze the whole time during P2 anyway and cold weather just makes that more miserable. So I'm leaning towards trying a new strategy.

I have the THM stubborn losers menus from their membership site that I joined for a short time a while ago. There are 3 weeks of them. I can't follow them exactly because of various food sensitivities, but I can sub out similar choices and stay with the fuel type and basic macros construction fairly easily. I've not ever lost anything significant on THM, even on the fuel cycles. But if I can reverse these gains at all with these pulled-back menus, then I'll know its possible, and that I just haven't found the right balance.

The SLMenus are basically free-styling with smaller fuel amounts and no (or only tiny amounts) of fun-foods like cheese and nuts and heavy cream. So it will feel a little "diety", but with a free-er framework, if that makes sense.

I'll be thinking about it more over the weekend, and then decide.

    THM stubborn loser experiment

I woke up to a cold house today. Getting dressed was an ordeal. I need to put a heater in my dressing room! That chilliness cemented my decision. I've decided to go the THM stubborn loser menu route. So today starts this new experiment.

I've already found out I'm rebellious about being reined into a set menu, so I'm going to give myself a week of picking an appealing day from all the menus each day for the first week so its not so restrictive feeling. (Todays choice is day 1 of week two.) I'll allow myself to sub out things I don't feel like eating (or don't have on hand) within the daily fuel structure and portion limits. Then, if it seems like I'm making progress, I'll launch into the menu progressions as listed for a full three weeks after that.

From this morning's breakfast experience, I think I've already pin-pointed one problem, which is I allow myself to fudge on portion size. It was really hard to cut a chunk off my banana to keep it to the half-banana serving in my creamy grains. Normally, I would just use the whole thing. Although I try to buy the small bananas, you don't always have that choice. (To the positive, I have always portioned the grains after I sour and cook them.)

This is going to be a good exercise in discipline, if nothing else. And maybe I'll find some new favorite recipes.

Stubborn loser log - day 4

So today is day 4 and this is the second deepS breakfast day in a row. Those are hard for me because I can't do eggs, and I have meat aversion at breakfast time, except for bacon occasionally. But I toughed it out and mixed up some sausage to grill and got it and some greens down. But I can't say I enjoyed it. My other problem is that I don't want to do shakes because they are COLD and there are a lot of shakes in the menus--especially at breakfast. So I have to come up with alternates for those. I've been doing some warm puddings, but I need to find other options.

These are not terrible hardships, just a challenge. So far I'm coping. And talking scale says that I'm down that pound that creeped up plus one more, so that is encouraging me to continue.

Yeah unfortunately the Boost juice is not a magic boost for me either. I joined the THM website last year for awhile and got all the Stubborn losers menus etc.
Although I didn't get around to following it, and gave in and did a round instead

I wish you good luck Leez, and hope it works for you

I agree it does teach some discipline if nothing else.

I did just finally get the new cookbook, and hope to look through it more on the weekend.

    Keep going strong

Just thought of something else I might try. I do drink the GGM, but see in the Womans world article on Apple Cider Vinegar miracle, but they are adding cayenne, turmeric and or ginger in at least 4 oz of water and drink it 15 minutes before two meals.

    Might give that a try.

The cider vinegar does stimulate your digestive juices, so that alone could be helpful if you have lower stomach acid. I stick with lemon juice myself. The ACV tears up my stomach, even in tiny amounts.

I did try a week of the stubborn loser menu a while back, but looking back on it, I didn't really follow it all that closely. I'm doing better this time, but I'm not sure I will be able to eat like this for a whole month. We'll see. It depends a lot on the powdered protein sources, and so as I go through it, it is starting to feel like a lot of "fake" food. For instance, one of the lunches was a cheesey soup. Well it was "cheesy" from nutritional yeast and some savory spices, not really from cheese. So that kind of recipe feels fakey to me. Not going to make that one again.

I'm not a member anymore, but downloaded the menus while I was as well. Its a little tricky because some of the menu items can only be viewed if you have access to the membership site. Sometimes you can find a picture though and get an idea of what they are about.

I've only tried a couple recipes from the new cookbook. I have to branch out in that book a bit more.

So, have been doing these menus for about 10 days now. I'm happy to say that I'm down about 2 pounds from where I was hovering before starting this, so something seems to be working.

This takes a lot more discipline than doing an HCG round, but it will be worth it if it finally unlocks a key for me to losing without HCG.

I'm kind of toying with the idea of testing eggs again. I've dabbled in tiny amounts of mayo recently that have not seemed to cause any issues, so that encourages me that a real challenge might be worth trying. This eating style is so much easier if you can use some eggs. From what I've been reading, cooked egg yolk is the safest thing to start with, so I may bake something with an egg yolk in it and let that be my test. Still mulling whether this is a good time to try or not.

I'm at the end of 2 weeks of stubborn loser menus, and I'm almost afraid to report ( in case I jinx it!) that I'm down another pound. (3 pounds total) I have one more week of SLMenus planned and it just may be possible to get under my 140 red line by the end of that if I can stay committed. The menu I haven't done yet is the first week's one, and it starts out with several deepS's in a row. So I'm not looking forward to Monday because of that. But if I can get through Monday, the rest of the days have more comfortable sequences. I'll re-evaluate at the end of next week whether to do a 4th week of SLMs before returning to free-styling.

My only break from the menus has been on Sundays, when I have been having a favorite hummus cross-over meal and not following the format exactly on those days. Still on plan, just not the SL plan. It is a nice treat for keeping the faith during the whole week before, and helps me to have that to look forward to. I don't think its hurt me any. I haven't seen a jump on Mondays.

If I continue to be successful this week, then the jury is in. I have been over-fueling. My fuel portions in S & Es were not too large, though. What it seems to mean is that I need to incorporate way more FP meals (which is none) and green stuffs than I would like, and have only FP evening snacks. The other thing that I am doing differently is not drinking coffee all day. I have been having hot shrinker drinks (oolong tea but like a chai tea with almond milk) in between meals instead.

That's Great news Leez. I wish you continued success with it and getting under the 140

I know I read the tips on the greens, and hiding them at the bottom of the plate lol. I feel for you that you can't have eggs, cause for me I love making a scrambled egg mix, or omelette style with green onions, green peppers and mushrooms

I am trying the ACV, ginger, turmeric and cayenne pepper, but not sure it's helping me much. For one thing I keep forgetting to weigh in the morning, having trouble getting used to the cold and darkness already. I don't look forward to winter at all.

Am going to try harder this week yet, and weigh in daily. Will see how it goes.

Today is my 3 week report on the THM stubborn loser menus. I've managed to stay on the menus 6 days out of 7 and still remain on plan on the off days. This last week, I was a little less strict and did some fuel-type switching around during the days. Also, a couple of meals that were supposed to be deepS ended up being lightS. I just got really weary of greens by the end. A couple more that were supposed to be FP became light E's because I was missing fruit and was tired of berries. But the week on the whole was pulled back and on track.

All the menu maneuvering tells me that I need a break. This week, I'm gong to try to apply some of the patterns to my free-style eating and see if I actually learned anything useful. DeepS meal is the hardest for me. Especially when they are placed several in a row.

The verdict: I'm one pound down from where I was holding, but 3 pounds down from the bump up that happened right before I started this experiment. Still a pound+ some over 140.

So I would have to say it was moderately successful since there was at least some loss. And the takeaway could be that for the first time ever, I lost something doing some form of THM.

I really didn't enjoy having to be so regimented, and it actually took more effort than spending 3 weeks on HCG. But the upside was that I didn't have to be freezing 24-7, which is a big bonus this time of year.

Very much enjoying my banana creamy grains breakfast today.

How did the week go for you Jayk?
I'd love to see a check in from Rose and kapluzie!

Hey Leez... Glad to hear your report on the whole experiment, and that at least you did lose, so that alone makes it worth it the effort you went through.

I actually ran out of ACV the other day, and am kind of glad. I found that I don't really love the mixture at all, and it actually made me hungrier. I have mostly been doing the THM way of eating, but not lost anything significant as yet.

I need to get a few more ingredients so I can try some of the recipes out of the new THM cookbook. I am going to make the "wake up trim down banana bars" and "carrot cake bars"

Try that for awhile for my breakfasts, as I am usually rushed each morning except on days off.

I also want to make a few of the hangry meals for one as well. I have never even used miso before in my life... Had to google it lol
I see its in a few recipes.

I am finally taking a break through Christmas this year, so can't wait so I actually have time to do a few things. My whole spring , summer, fall just blew by being so busy. Not wanting to rush the time.. but sure looking forward to it.

I would love to hear from Kapluzie and Rose as well... Hope all is well

ACV stimulates your digestive juices, so that could be why it affects you that way. I use it in recipes, but can't drink it in any amounts, as it feels like its tearing up my stomach.

I like the white miso, but the red miso is too strong-flavored for me. I find that miso works pretty much anywhere you would use bouillon.
