    Maintenance P4 Check-in Group

This is a thread for those who have finished their HCG round and P3 and still come to the forums, but maybe aren't part of a particular thread or group. It would be nice to have some updates from those who are successful at maintaining their losses, as it encourages others. But I though it would also be good to have a specific group where those in maintenance can share successes and concerns, and get input on any issues with maintenance in a group format.

This group is for those that have completed their HCG journey, and also those that are practicing maintenance in their P4 times between rounds. Hopefully we can all learn from each other as we work through our maintenance strategies. But its fine if you just want to pop in and make a report too.

So here we are, the P4 Check in Group!

My checkin: I got to goal in May of 2015. Since then I've been maintaining using various programs like FMD, THM and THE PLAN. Currently, I've settled into THM, which has the most freedom in food choices. You just have to separate your fuels and basically stay sugar-free. I'm a few pounds over my LIW, but I'm eating well and I've not changed sizes, so I'm good with that. Would I like to get those few pounds off? Well, yes. But I'm not stressed about it.

I'm here too. Stayed completely stable through the P3 three weeks and want to do another round following P4 so I do have concerns about adding stuff. If I do add, it will be nice and slow and not too much. I'm thinking it would be a wonderful thing to start another round and not have to go through the sugar, white flour withdrawal during those first few days. Has anyone else tried doing that? Yay, P4!

Hi! I didn't know about this thread, I was on an old one so I will post on this one from now on.
I was pretty stable in phase 3 except for when I went to Mexico and drank a lot and maybe gained a few pounds due to traveling. As I said in the other thread, I do not want to add sugar. I went to a bridal shower today and had one small forkful of the mashed potatoes, just to taste. I skipped the cake that was made by a high end bakery, and look absolutely delish. Sweets are not my weakness, crunch things like corn chips etc. are. I am not going to eat those either because if I do, I might not eat just one serving. That scares me.
So, do we need to add starch or can we just skip it? I will try a quarter of a sweet potato one day and see what happens.
Another thing, should we be counting calories again? I think I am going to.

P4 is about figuring out what you need to do to maintain the rest of your life. Its a good idea to use that time if you are between rounds, to practice your maintenance strategies. That way, when you get to your goal, you've already got a lot of this figured out.

That being said, there is no guidelines on how fast you should add starches and sugars back in. You don't ever need to add sugar if you choose not to. You can limit starches to just starchy vegetables introduced in a small amount, and then gradually increase the amount until you find a limit. You don't ever need to add starchy grains or flours if you've determined that they are overeating triggers for you. Or, if you are finishing round 1, you can just stay in P3 until Round 2 if you like.

I think P4 trips a lot of people up because they don't use it to make a strategy for maintenance. Its a real opportunity to turn things around. If you didn't need to do something different than your old way of eating, you wouldn't have had to do HCG in the first place.

You've already stabilized (or not) in P3. There is no reason to add sugar or grains back if you don't want to. But you should at some point add back the orange/red vegetables like sweet potatos, winter squashes and beets. You need those for your thyroid and adrenal health.

If you treat P4 like P3, and only add 1-2 new things per week, you'll have a better idea about how those additions affect you.

The difference in P4 testing is that you are not just testing for gaining safety, but you also want to find out your limits on quantities you can eat of those things. So for instance, you might try a half cup of sweet potato and be ok with that, but find that you gain once you've increased the portion to a whole big one.

Thanks, Leez, that makes sense. I will add each of those things in small quantities a as you suggested. I want my thyroid to function properly. I am going to order my next round, and read your blog about long and short rounds. What is considered a long and short round? Also, is it recommended to skip an injection every 5 or 7 days?

Minimum length of round is 23 doses shortest round). Maximum is 40 doses (longest round). If you don't wish to do the long round, try to increase the short round to 30 doses for best stabilization.

If you are doing the long round you need to skip one day a week, which actually extends your losing time. You do not need to skip on the short round, but you can if you want to. It gives you the option to extend to the long round if you decide to do that later.

I just ordered the 25 day injections for New Edge, which is a different name now because they merged with anothe company, and will skip some to stretch it to 30. You don't think that will minimize my losses?

Skipping doesn't change the days of your round, since they are related to doses, not days. If you take 25 injections, then your round is 25 days, regardless if you have skip days worked into that.

There is no effect on your losses by doing a skip day. If anything, it extends the time where you can keep losing. In my opinion its worth doing a skip day no matter how long your round is.
