Hey Rusty, I just spotted your thread. Is it OK for me to join? I have about 20 days left on my 40 day round, and have been pushing the envelope, skirting the protocol, so am only down 14 lbs this round.

My history is that I originally started at 277, lost down to about 220 but was never able to stabilize and regained back up to 264. Then I started a round before Thanksgiving, (with a week cheat at Thanksgiving with my family), lost about 25 lbs that round, and regained 9 lbs in P3. Then I did FMD and dropped 6 lbs in a month, but played around with that protocol and gained it back before starting this round at 249. Right now I am down to 236 and hoping for another 14 lbs this round. I will probably have to stick closer to protocol to get that kind of loss.

Okay, after today, 3 or my 6 weeks of radiation is done! The daily driving into Salem (30 minutes each way) in the middle of the day is kinda a bummer... but I'll take that over having the cancer return! I was surprised today when I stepped on the scale... I have basically been off program since the end of November when I was diagnosed. I am only up 6 pounds from LDW - I expected it to be much worse. Hopefully I will begin the Adkins style of eating on Monday - and maybe bring it down a pound or two. All in all, it's good.

Sorry, Rusty, about the stall. That is such a drag!! Especially when you have been POP! Hope you get a whoooosh tomorrow!

Welcome Lynn... we all know about that stinkin' weight sneaking back on to the scale. Get POP and it will start falling off.

Rhiann, have a great trip! When do you leave? I love road trips. Our last one was a 3033 drive from Florida to Oregon. What a beautiful country we have!

    Blessings all!

    Hello everybody!

Would you mind if I joined as well? I know a few of you from other threads that have gone silent.

A bit of history about me. I've lost and regained over 100 pounds twice over the years. My focus is on maintaining this time, no matter what that number on the scale happens to be. I have a goal on my ticker, but it really isn't anything that I feel I have to obtain.

I'm on the Fast Metabolism Diet (FMD) right now for P4. In April, I will be taking 3 weeks of vacation. Instead of focusing on getting to a goal weight by then (what I've always done in the past), I am focusing on how I will maintain or gain less than 10 pounds during that time. I know that I will need to balance eating and drinking to manage that.

CPOW: So glad to hear that your radiation treatments are over. It must be a relief. I am sorry to hear about your osteoarthritis. My hubby had a hip replacement about two years ago because of it. I hope that you can get your Baker's cyst under control and can avoid surgery.

Rhiannon: Have a nice road-trip! That is quite a long drive. The last long drive I did was from Maryland to Arizona. It probably sounds lame, but one thing we always do on long trips is to make up stories or catch-phrases about interesting or unusual names. We also do something similar to the old "slug-bug" game. When we see a sign for "Steak-n-shake" we would call out the name and then "shake". We are such big nerds!

Rusty: Nice to meet you! Do you have a recipe for your jerky? I want to make some this weekend.

Lynne: We've been "traveling" in the same circles recently!

Hi Lynn! It's wonderful to see you again! Remember, eyes on the prize. You are half way there, more weight will come off, and don't forget those ever shrinking inches!!

Nekko!! Welcome. Focusing on maintaining is the smart mindset. Have you altered your diet in anyway? I went Paleo after my first round, and never looked back. It did help me lose some extra weight (13 pounds after round 2), and then I got sloppy, and gained back. Now, I am creating a stricter Paleo plan for after my round (sticking mostly with a P3 eating style, and treating processed meats *mmmmmm bacon*, as more like a condiment, rather than a staple).

Cpow: Yea for being done! You are maintaining very well. With some of the stresses out of the way, you will shed those 6 lbs. in no time.

Nekko, I just get some carne asada cut beef, trim any visible fat and cut into jerky sized pieces, then use some Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, and a bit of cayenne, into a gallon baggie, let the meat marinate overnight in the fridge. Put into the dehydrator at 160 (or highest setting) until dried. You can use an oven too, just check the web to find the correct temp.

Today is Saturday, VLCD 13 for me, and a skip day. I lost .6 lbs (finally), it's not much, but I'll take what I can.

Yesterday, my car's passenger door got hit by a valet driving someone else's car, I had to have the car taken to a body shop, because the passenger door won't close. What a mess! I do have a sweet rental, it's a Cadillac mini SUV, which has all the bells and whistles, but would suck on a long drive. I would rather have my comfy Ford Taurus back. No one got hurt (Thank you God!), but what a pain in the tuckus to deal with. My insurance co. says I am not at fault, and my rates won't go up. They also said that getting the valet service's insurance to pay up will be quite a challenge, so if we see our deductible returned, it won't be for months!!!

Off to start my day. TTFN.

Rusty, that is terrible news about your car. The valet must have been driving too fast to do that kind of damage to your vehicle. I am glad that no one was injured. Thanks for the jerky making tips. I do have a vastly underutilized dehydrator. I really do need to start using it more.

My plan for maintenance is doing the FMD. So far, I have lost some weight on it, but I'm eating so much food that I can't complain! The first time I lost over 100 pounds, I did Jenny Craig. They do try and get you into the maintenance mindset by doing "homework". But each week, you always focus on the weight and getting to goal. When the counselor that I used there moved on, I stopped the diet and regained the weight in less than a year.

The second time I lost over 100 pounds, I did the Atkins diet. As long as I could stay away from the carbs I did fine. When I ate carbs again, the weight came back, again.

See a bit of a pattern? I don't have any answers but I do have my plan. I will probably alternate between HCG and FMD. I will use HCG when I need to lose more weight and FMD for milder "corrections". I think that I can live this way and maintain. I hope this breaks the yo-yo dieting cycle that I've been on all of my life.

2 years ago my mantra became "I am only one slice of bread from 300 pounds.", and it's that, more than anything else that keeps me Paleo. There are some Paleo treats that I enjoy (onion rings are my favorite), plus I have found a recipe for a wrap (eggs and arrowroot powder) that I use for taco night. I do miss real bread (cake, doughnuts, cookies, pancakes, spaghetti, oh the list goes on and on), but there is no turning back for me, not if I want to be a svelt 180 lbs.

The downside is that "low carb" has become a fad, and many companies are jumping on the bandwagon, so some low carb/Paleo/Primal newbies are eating the same type of chemically processed foods that they are trying to get away from.

An "after hCG" plan is so important!!!

Apparently I made a typo… I meant to say that I have finished 3 OF my 6 weeks of radiation… I still have 3 weeks more to go.

Hello NekkoCat. I have seen you on other threads, and welcome! Where are you going on your 3-week vacation? When will you be beginning your next round?

Rusty, what is what you call a “skip day”? What do you eat? Is this was enables you to do such long rounds? So sorry about your car… what a pain!

    Blessings all!

Rusty: The wraps sound like a good idea. I think that is so true about the commercialization of a particular diet. I think we are all better off with minimally processed food. I certainly feel better and have fewer food cravings when I eat that way.

Cpow: I think that I just concentrated on the word "done". I hope you are hanging in there being half-way done.

I will be going on a cruise to Hawaii. We'll be leaving from Long Beach, sail up to the islands and make 5 stops at different islands. Then it's off to Vancouver. We'll be celebrating our 30th anniversary on the second day of the cruise. I can hardly wait! I plan on doing my third round on hcg sometime in May.

Nekko: That sounds like an awesome vacation! We've done the Hawaiian cruise a couple times... and love it! The cruise isn't 3 weeks long is it? Are you doing some touring on one end or the other of the cruise?

I will, God willing, be starting my next round around April 19th - give or take - assuming I am released by my oncologist. So we will be doing P2 around the same time.

    Happy Lord's Day, everyone!
    Blessings!

Cpow, the cruise isn't the whole three weeks. I'm taking 3 weeks off of work. We will spend a few days in Vancouver before heading home. I am so excited to see Vancouver for the very first time. After that, I have a few days at home to unpack and get ready for work.

I hope that you'll be able to start your next round when you want to. How have you been holding up so far?

I'm doing good, Nekko. No side-effects that I can detect so far. Wednesday they are going to re-scan so that we can see what the radiation is doing... hopefully what it is supposed to! While you are in Vancouver, you should go to see Butchart Gardens, if you have never been there. You can take a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria Island... and it is worth it! http://www.butchartgardens.com/

    Rusty! How's it going??

    Good night, all!!
