BUT, having leaned what I have in regards to foods, I have shifted my focus towards sustainable farms/dairies. We will be purchasing a butchered cow, half a pig and unless I can convince DH to let me raise my own, a bunch of free range chickens from a local farmer who is very involved and informed in the process. I will be growing my own veggies (I hope) this year, and hit our local farmer's market every week (LOVE IT!!!) BUT, since I live in a cold climate, much of our winter foods are purchased at supermarkets. However, our local small town grocer actually does a pretty good job, and I will just continue to try to do the best I can.

Sorry to sound stupid, but what is gm?

GM is genetically modified food which is used in pretty much anything processed (unless it's Organic).

    Sugar Substitute - Natural

There's a sweetener that's supposed to be EXCELLENT called Just Like Sugar. It's made from chicory root, which apparently has some great benefits.

I agree completely. What bothers me the most (and the list is long) is how they sue the small organic farmers because they've found trace amounts of their GM seeds on the organic farmers' land. REALLY? Organic farmers don't want Monsanto's nasty GM seeds anywhere near their land. Just another ploy to get rid of any and all competition. And it's interesting how many people that used to work for Monsanto now work for the FDA and vice versa.

Whoops! I haven't bought it yet. Have my vitacost cart filled with $100 worth of stuff, and can't bring myself to hit the Checkout button! LOL. Maria Emmerich (the one with all the great cookbooks) says she used to use xylitol all the time until this came out. Supposedly NO aftertaste at all. She does promote xylitol as well as erythritol and stevia.

It's very scary situation! Also, the other scary thing is they are getting patents on seeds which means they can take control of all of the worlds food production. That's why they need to be stopped.

For me it's not very easy and affordable, but I've just joined an organic food coop and try to only buy organic (as much as I can).

Not sure I would ever personally replace meat with it, since I am a card carrying carnivore, BUT... this might help you a bit. The carbs don't seem TOO outrageous considering it is a wheat product. Although if you are like me and are avoiding all wheat products, this obviously won't be an option.

I have loved it in the past because of the texture but now i am all kinds of paranoid about wheat and gluten so I feel like I don't know what to do hahaha

Have you watched the movie No Impact Man? It is really fascinating. The stuff he does isn't necessarily practical for most of us but the thought behind it and the inspiration is awesome!

Ha ha ha! It's Pat! She's cute, and funny, and I like her, but did she seriously name her kid, Mulan? Or has the name been changed to protect the innocent? Thanks for sharing!

My wife and I went vegetarian for a month...can't remember why. I gained so much weight...used it as a license to just eat italian food and cheese enchiladas. I sucked at being a vegetarian since I definitely didn't eat any vegetables. If my wife cooks something with no meat in it now she gives me a thirty minute heads up so I can make my own meat to add to it. And a 10 minute heads up if I need to make sauces. Sauces are awesome. How did I get fat again?

I'm trying to be better. My health coach rails against genetically modified stuff and doesn't trust corn in anything really...and she is from Nebraska...what a traitor! Anyway...my wife used to ask why I don't recycle and I told her it appeared she was doing well enough for the both of us. I want to care more, but I have a really short attention s...is that a squirrel?

I told you we were the #1 rated thread at this years injectables conference....they didn't even bother to award second place. The red carpet was pretty sweet but dinner was a third of a chicken breast with aspargus and dessert was lemon water so that kind of sucked.

So, I'm at .4 under after this weekend. I did a road trip on Saturday and Sunday for a dog rescue transport. It all happened quickly so I didn't have time to prepare food. So I existed on Atkins bars, string cheese, and one Hardee's double thickburger with cheese and bacon wrapped in lettuce. Damn that was yummy! Not the best choices, but it seems to have gone OK!

Oh and I just received two things from Amazon. This cookbook:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/146...00_i01_details

    And this liquid sucralose (Splenda)
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details

OMG the cookbook is PHENOMENAL. Not just recipes, but lots of good information about the whys of the ingredients, benefits, etc.

Gonna get caught up with you guys now!
    The liquid Splenda rocks!!
It's never too late too be what you might have been.
