When I was growing up my dad always told me 'you're so beautiful... if only you lost a few pounds'. This really hurt, especially since I weighed about 50-54kg/110-118lbs at the time... Dad thought he was helping me... Go figure! Instead I am messed up because of growing up with that sort of crap.

Yeah sometimes parents don't realize the impact of words. I myself am guilty of this at times. I know I worry every time I scold my children for doing something wrong because they look at me like their hearts are broken!

I'm not a parent but I think as long as you are scolding them for a valid reason (eg: they did something you specifically told them not to do or one hit the other etc) then you shouldn't feel guilty... you are a parent and therefore have to parent lol.

It is only when you pick and nag at them and bring them down for something that can have a lasting effect on their psyche - weight, eating, exercise ... if you were in the same shoes, would what you say or the way you said it bring you down?? For example one day my dad told me that some girls were pointing and laughing at me behind my back... was that necessary; NO, did it help me; NO! definitely not. It hurt even more coz I had just lost 10kg/22lbs and was feeling proud and good about myself like I could actually reach my goal eventually; if i kept on track.

Obviously some things need to be talked about if they are a problem or could start a problem (weight, excessive eating) and you have to handle it in a subtle way. I would always put myself if their shoes and then maybe you can find a way that will help them in the right direction rather than the opposite.

The only thing I nag my kids about is their chores. My 11 year old son never turns the water off and always takes his sweet *** time loading the dishwasher...that annoys the hell out of me!

You dad was wrong! I don't know what else to say. I'm sorry he made you feel that way. Unfortunately We all seem to carry baggage from childhood with us into our adult life. It's what we do with it that truly matters. You recognize the issue so now it's time to face it, deal with it head on and release it. I have always been big on focusing on the positive side of pain. My mother taught me that.

Life's heartaches shape and mold us into stronger beings loosely threaded into the self we have become.

Seams may tear and scars may bleed but we stitch them one by one.

    And as we mend
    and as we heal
    we learn
    we grow
    we see

the Future we have yet to live is brighter...time will show.

    So embrace the pain
    So heal the scars
So learn to let it go

By Me (a very rough draft!!)

Kitri, that is so beautiful! I love your way with words.

Hope you got past the sweets craving! I've heard that eating a pickle will take a sweet craving away. Try some TLC, like relaxing bath, or whatever does it for you. That helps me when I feel cravings coming on.

Thanks Marv. I love to write and I love the power of words! I am hopeful to one day write an inspirational type book about my life. I have been through more than most people every go through in one life time and I know it is rare for someone to stay as positive as I have despite all the pain I have endured. I feel like if I can share my experiences and my story to help just one person then the trials I have endured will be worth something much more than the pain they have caused me in the past. And I stress in the past because I no longer allow it to hurt me or cause me pain! I am in a good place now! Took 30+ years to get here but I am here!

And I am going to eat some cocoa crack and go to bed.....lol. (No hunger but oh well) I am stressed over finals and there is NO COFFEE in this house! I have got to buy coffee tomorrow!!! Oh well, only 2 days left of this semester!

That's so funny, my first few days on HCG I "cheated" with pickles and banana peppers out of a jar i had in my fridge because I thought I was sooo hungry. It was emotional and TOM was affecting me but yes... those really may have helped. i didn't eat the whole jar.. that's a sign for me lol.

Still holding strong at about 1.8 under LIW eating only with hunger and only till satisfied. Today I added in 10 almonds. An interesting thing is, I DO get hungry now in the morning whereas I used to not get hungry for many hours after waking. So, I eat. P3 day 7.
