I am only on VLCD2 and have had eggs for breakfast yesterday and today. I have not tried the cottage cheese, I have not had that in years. It seems like it would taste kinda gross. VeggieMama, how did you prepare your eggs & cottage cheese? I am already getting tired of eggs for breakfast and ready to start my Protein shakes (for variety).

I notice a lot of people are going rogue on this diet and Many still losing very well. I know it depends on the person though. I do not want to deviate from the protocol; but if I feel like I can't make it, I might, just to keep me going.

Can anyone please shoot me over some vegetarian recipes within protocol?
Melody Hope, I see you've had some really nice stuff. I wanted to copy and paste that list you had.

Thanks all. Oh, I am down 4.2 lbs. from yesterday (Yeah!!). I pray it continues.......
I agree with VeggieMama: search for the link to the free PDF for the book HCG P2 Gourmet Cookbook on this website. I formatted into a Word document and printed it off, then adapted the recipes I liked to be vegetarian. I also rarely follow a recipe exactly, just adapt to what I like. I've made several variations of cabbage rolls - soooooo yummy.

Today is r2p2vlcd1 and I'm doing this round vegetarian... going to try to anyway. I recently saw a video about animal cruelty and the unsanitary conditions in which our "food" is made. Was so disgusting and horrid that I cried at one part and couldn't watch some other parts. So, I'm starting the process of becoming a vegetarian. Starting off with just getting rid of animal meat for now and keeping fish/seafood/dairy/eggs... I'll work on those later.

So today I bought my first ever container of cottage cheese. It was ok. Not something I would eat everyday but it'll work. I wasn't sure what to purchase so I got the Daisy brand 2% small curd. It has 90cals and 2.5g fat per 1/2 cup. Is this ok for a protein/meat substitution or should I have gotten the 1% or nonfat?

I'm also using coconut milk instead of nonfat milk for my coffee. Used 1/4cup (12cals, 1.5gfat) in my coffee this morning but thinking maybe I should use less, as 1tbsp of nonfat milk is only 5cals.

Welcome lawgal! The criteria I was given for vegetarian protein substitutes was this:
    Calories 80-120
    Carbs 0g-8g
    Sugars 0-1g
    Fat 0-5g
    Protein 8g-25g

It seems your 2% would fall in this category. Read through this forum and you will find lots of other protein ideas (MF burgers, Quorn patties, etc) that you can use to keep things interesting. I made tons of different recipes and never got bored in R1P2. I'm a week into P3 and stabilizing nicely. Let us know if you have questions, we're here to support each other!

Welcome to the brave new world of vegetarianism. It's a great life, honest--just don't become a carbatarian like I did and you'll be fine I gave up meat because I was a chronic kidney stone producer and there was then-new research about how reducing animal protein can make all the difference--and I've been stone-free (and IBS free) ever since.
Many people go cold turkey (so to speak) and give up all animal flesh at once--I was like you, and seafood was the last to go. I know about all the great benefits of fish and such, but the fish we are now given to eat have survived on a steady diet of plastic and oil. I don't think that's what constitutes health food, and it's our fault for polluting our waters. [getting off soap box]
I use fat free cottage cheese, but have made due with 2% before (because that's what we had) with not a whole lot of difference. This diet is certainly doable as a ovo-lacto vegetarian, and I've heard, even vegan. Don't give up & wishing you (and us all!) lots of losses in the short-term future!

Thanks ladies! So far not thrilled with cottage cheese, but nonfat fage seems to be working for me so far so I might end up letting go of the cottage cheese and using nonfat fage (even though there are 7carbs and 7sugars, but because of this I'm only having one fruit per day to make up for it). I had haddock last night for dinner and it was just not satisfying and kind of gross. I'm dead set against Tilapia... very dirty fish especially farm raised. I love salmon (especially salmon sashimi) but it's not P2 and is alittle on the heavy side for fats, so this will wait till P3. I'm going to check out the MF products and start slow. I have hypothyroidism and too much soy is not good for it. Once in a while should be ok. I will definitely come here for more help, questions, suggestions and just to chat!

Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress. BTW the "Quorn" products are soy free and we ate quite a bit of Halibut and Tuna steaks in round one for dinner with success. Haven't attempted a P2 sushi, but might next round...I am determined to come up with a recipe!

Welcome to Cruelty Free eating. I gave up all meat/chicken/turkey/fish on March 22, 2010 and have only actually snuck about two bites of alaskan salmon off my hubby's plate since. I do still take some fish oil, and am changing over to red krill oil caps, for my omega's. other than that, I do not drink dairy, I only have yogurts sometimes and it's either chobani or something organic from Whole Foods. I eat cheese sparingly, as it's my downfall. If I can sub it for a non dairy cheese, I do so. There are some good ones out there such as the Lisanatti Almond cheese or Daiya cheese which is made of various things -pea protein being one of them and melts nicely. Rice shreds sometimes too. Anyhow, I am convinced that it's the only way to healthy living, and vegan being more healthy especially in my family where heart disease runs rampant. When i'm done w/hcg, I am going to try to keep more of my food raw, and mostly vegan. Why undo it all? Good luck to all of us going rogue to find out way to health!

If you do choose to eat animal products, make sure they are organic/wild caught & sustainable options, as you are less apt to eat factory farmed crap then.

    no, is it a dvd/movie?

and yes, before I started my vegetarian transformation I only ate organic products. I will more than likely never be able to give up dairy completely for the simple fact that I love Fage yogurt. It just became my favorite thing in P3 and I eat it all the time. Atleast it is organic. In regards to fish, yes, I will only eat wild caught as well because the farm raised ones are just nasty.

I might need to try some tuna. I love grilled tuna steak and it is low in fat. Not sure why Dr. S didn't think it was ok, unless the only version of tuna that existed in his time was canned tuna in oil...

Yup Forks over Knives is another documentary that speaks out about how you can reverse disease by eating vegan. It has been recently released in different cities. You can see their website at Forksoverknives.com
