Thread: RAW Vegan?!? HELP!

  1. #25
Hi, I've done 3 rounds as a vegetarian. Ive been vegan for 8 years and veggie for 15. on the 2nd round i tried doing the veggie quorn (i think thats the brand) 'chicken' filets...i gained lbs. i did this out of desperation at being so sick of 'sun warrior' protein shakes. nuts made me gain as well, and they don't have nearly enough protein. i'm about to do my 4th round (loading on christmas eve) and i plan on doing the raw vegan shakes again. I just add A LOT of stevia in 'hot chocolate' to get them down.

This jumped out at me, because I tried a handful of walnuts over the weekend and gained 2.2 pounds. I won't do that again. o_0

As long as I stay with fresh veggies and fruit, plus an occasional protein shake and some soy meat substitutes, I do ok. Sweet potatoes and nuts have made me gain. No surprises really, but I was hoping I could be different. LOL

Maybe try and rotate your protein shakes i.e. different companies, different flavors. This may help give you some variety. Also are egg substitutes a possible item for you? My brother was severly allergic to eggs and he would buy a powdered egg substitute and use it in cooking. He also bought a veggie egg mix and added soy or tofu and had scrambled eggs. I know these aren't exactly on the protocol but maybe this version would be veggie enough? Just a suggestion.

    Good luck

Good luck with P3. You will likely do great. I see you have lost a lot of weight, but possibly plan to do more rounds after this one, so I am sure I will see you around. I would like to lose about 60-65 pounds, so I will be here awhile. No way I am doing all of that in one round.

yes i do have a very long way to go! i start my next round on january 7th! phase 3 is not fun at all. i was so confused but basically its as "simple" as it sounds.. no starch and no sugar. add things SLOWLY. thats pretty much it and it took me 2 weeks to figure that out! i can't handle eating meat.. it makes me so sick even thinking about it. next round i am doing vegetarian. its amazing the simple things you crave after you take away everything.

they seriously need to call this trail and error diet. lol!

Good suggestions. I am holding out on using real eggs, because I would prefer to stick to a vegan menu. If I get desperate, I still have the vegetarian choices as a backup plan. There are egg subs that I am aware of, but I am not a big fan of the taste. I am losing when I eat soy meat substitutes, and silken tofu has been alright so far.

I have been changing up the shakes by adding different fruit each time, or using cinnamon and apple, or just some extra vanilla to boost the taste. I like them, but for some reason, I can't remember to use them daily! I am a creature of habit, and the shakes were not in my daily life before this plan. lol

Adding a post-it to my desktop to remind me to try to have a shake daily to up my protein.

I am doing a long round on this first one, so P3 is not in my sights yet. I am only day 22, and have lost 12.1 pounds. Had some gains from a couple of foods, so maybe I can stick to what has worked and up my loss average a bit now.

Good plan to wait until after the holidays to start another round. Maybe you can eat some of the yummy food choices from the festivities before going back to VLCD's.

    Red face Veggie Diet

    Hello,
I have been a vegetarian for most of my life. I was vegan for a while and tried Raw Foods. My diet is really focused on vegetables but I have gone out of control with the carbs and have gained a lot of weight in the last two years. I am a stress eater/drinker. I have had good luck stabilizing my weight, but just can't seem to loose without lots of exercise.... seriously, the last time I lost any weight, I was running 5 miles a day. My schedule just doesn't allow me to do that anymore!
I also have food issues that really limited my diet - No corn, dairy, limited animal proteins
Recently I have been able to reintroduce fish and eggs. I don't ever want to eat any other animal proteins. I can only tolerate about 4oz of fish with out major stomach/digestive issues. I will never be able to eat dairy or corn ever again.

I am on day 2 of the VLCD.
I just went to the store to stock up on. . .
    Melba toast,
    bread sticks,
    Apples,
    Strawberries,
Green Veggies - Kale, cabbage, spinach, green beans
Peaceful Planet Vegan Protein Powder (110 cals, 0 carbs, 1.5g fat, 25g protein)
Peaceful Planet Vanilla Pea Protein Energy Shake (130, 5 carbs, 0 fat, 25 protein)

Raw diets focus so much on nuts and nut milks. Nuts are so high in fat (I know, the good kind ) that I can't imagine Hcg working to its full potential. If I am understanding the rules correctly, you are supposed to be drastically reducing your fat in take so that your body "attacks" you fat stores.
By eating high fat nuts or protein shakes, it seems that you are satisfying your body's need for calories instead of forcing it to burn fat while using Hcg?
It seems counter intuitive especially for so little protein.
Personally, I will be using egg whites and white fish in small amounts for the duration of this diet. My goal is to loose weight quickly and return to a vegan diet that works well with my digestive issues.

I would be very interested to see other low-carb, low-fat, high-protein vegetarian/vegan options that everyone else comes up with! I am a BIG fan of www.vegweb.com there are a ton of great recipes there - vegetarian, vegan & raw. I doubt that there are any listings for Hcg specific... but it's a good resource!

    Cheers!

FYI some of the Vegan Egg Replacers are made from Potato starch and have VERY little protein and a ton of carbs - so you won't be getting the same macronutrients as an egg. Just make sure you read your labels! Best of luck!

Good afternoon all I recently started the VLC diet, today actually, and I would like to stay as raw as possible. I'm not vegetarian or vegan right now, but I have been previously and am hoping this diet will allow me to take gradual steps to get back there. I have chicken and seafood on my menu for now, but I would like to find another source of protein as there are absolutely no local, organic sources of anything where I live. Do any of you have any experience with ordering fresh organic produce? Products? And having them delivered.

Thanks so much for this thread! It's full of great information. I hope to find my food footing without having to experiment too much IE gain/stall too much. Thanks everyone

    Hi Everyone,

I am doing 100% low-fat, raw, vegan (according to Dr. Douglas Graham's 80/10/10 method) while sticking to around 700 calories on HCG. Any other raw vegans here now?

    Cheers and much success!

No but I am thinking about it for my next round if I can figure out how to do it.

    Wishing you lots of success!

Goal this round 160: losses include loading day 1 = vcld 1

    Thank you!

Today is P2 Day 3. I lost 2 pounds the first two days but I am also very swollen with water weight because it's been over 100 here every day and I swell in high heat. I can tell I'm swollen by my puffy fingers. I have been eating shirataki noodles as well, those hold water. So actually, I feel like I have lost more than just two pounds in two days. My hip measurements went down already!

Apparently (according to those who have done it), when you eat 100% low fat, raw vegan, you can eat foods not on protocol and eat higher calories. Check out this raw, vegan HCG blog: http://rawveganforhealth.blogspot.fr...8_archive.html

By the way, I take 'real' pharmaceutical HCG. It definitely kills almost all hunger.

Today I tried off protocol foods: I had three dates, one half of a very small avocado and a half cup of garden peas. I have eaten nutritional yeast every day this week. I love the stuff. It taste like parmesan

My calories have stayed under 600 all week. Today I am eating 600.

I'll keep you posted on what works and what doesn't.

WOW thanks for the interesting post. I do not pretend to know much about being vegan or vegetarian for that matter. I guess I am an occasional pescatarian LOL.

Years ago, I followed the Fit for Life diet for about a year. I lost weight quickly...I was on it as a candida cleanse and for digestive orders, as per my naturopath's recommendation.

I found it hard to follow at that time, since my husband stuck with it for about 1 days LOL. He no longer eats shellfish or pork, so I find I am instinctively introducing more vegetarian and vegan dishes for variety. Our best friends have gone vegetarian (incorporating many vegan dishes) after a 30-day stint to support their vegan teenager.

I think it has become more easy in today's society to become vegetarian/vegan, since more mainstream grocery stores and restos are adapting. It was so difficult to find supplies before.

I am ready to try it again...I did try a vegetarian diet in the past; 3 times and gained (too many carbs?)...I seem to fare better on a vegan-type diet. I have added tons of books on my amazon.ca wishlist...and currently trying to weed some out before placing my order.

I am curious as to why hcg is needed if you are vegan? Does it not help your body to adjust to its healthy weight on its own? I think the concept of combining the 2 is interesting and could be the boost I need. Wishing you lots of success and thanks for your response
