Anyone using the Whey Protein Shots?

    Hi there,

I haven't begun the protocol yet, waiting for my meds. I am using the time to do some menu planning and looking at protein sources. I'm curious if anyone has been using or even tried the Whey Protein Shots http://www.amazon.com/Body-Fortress-.../dp/B002HHREVM

The above link is Amazon.com and Wal-Mart has these for $9.99 for a six pack. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Body-Fortr....4-oz/13274526

Each shot contains 2.9 fluid oz. and is marketed at having 26g protein per shot. There are actually other flavors but it looks like most places just carry the Fruit Punch... tastes a bit like drinking cough syrup. The flavor takes a bit of getting used to.

    Ingredients:
Water (Purified), Proprietary Protein Blend (Hydrolyzed Collagenic, Whey & Casein), Malic Acid, Branched Chain Amino Acids (Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine), Natural Flavors, Vitamin Blend, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Niacinamide, D Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Thiamine Monohydrate (Vitamin B1), Folic Acid (Folate) Vitamin B12, Biotin (Vitamin H), Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose, Red 40 Lake (CI 16035) (FD & C)

I have always carried one of these in my purse for those times when you get caught without food or feel that you just need a hit of protein and I really like them .

    Thanks

I've been using the Whey shots without any adverse affect on losing. I take 1/3 with my fruit in the morning and 1/3 with fruit in the afternoon, then the last 1/3 right before going to bed. I have adjusted my protein with lunch and dinner downward just a bit to compensate, but overall I'm doing a bit more protein than the protocol specifies.

I'm curious to see what people have to say, myself. I may have to ask this in the 'rogue' thread because I go there often to get advise from those who have been on this diet a long time. The viewership is quite high.

The three concerns that I see with the ingredients are:
---the milk products (which should be limited on protocol)
---there are a whopping 110 calories per vial (if one is trying to stick close to 500 calories, over 20% of that is used up by one serving)
---sucralose [another name for Splenda, :-(] is used as a sweetnener (stevia is the only allowed sweetener on the protocol)

Please don't take my observation as rain because I certainly want to add more protein to my diet, however, I'm just hoping these don't work against you instead of for you.

110 divided by 3 is only about 35 calories. As for splenda, many of us use it with no problem. Where did you see the milk? I'm missing that, but we are allowed 1 Tablespoon per day.

I am intrigued since I use protein and recovery drinks daily.

My daily loss ranges from .6 to 1.6, so I feel ok with using these... for me. I know from past experience that I do best when I spread out my protein throughout the day. I always check in with my body first though, to see if it really wants the shot in that moment. :-)

I like that you are listening to your body. That is so crucial. I think I will get a couple of these and use them in place of my usual protein shakes. I'll let you know how it goes.

Jenni, regarding the caloric amount; one of the responses stated that the person has 1/3 at each meal. If the 110 calories was taken in thirds, a total of three would still amount to the full 110. Regarding milk, whey protein is a high quality protein powder from cow's milk.

I wasn't trying to sway anyone one way or another. I was just sharing what I know.

I just wasn't sure if you realized that the OP was dividing it up. Wasn't trying to change anyone's mind. Either...just sharing what I read

Just for the heck of it and the experience, I went a few days without using the shots. Total stall, felt really out of balance... So I'm returning to using the 1/3 in the morning and last thing at night... I can easily skip the afternoon w/ fruit time as I've been saving some protein from lunch to eat with my fruit between lunch and dinner.
