Mermaid, a weekend of travel is enough to put me up by a couple of pounds. I really, really do not think it is the water. But you might examine what you are considering healthy eating: the US has gone into an epidemic of obesity ever since the 1980 US Government food recommendations.

Take a hot bath - it may encourage a whoosh!

I actually lost 4 lbs while skiing over the weekend. It was great.

The gain was on my weigh in the day after we got back, when the only change had been the water. The same with my husband. Tap water in Oslo is treated with an anti-algal growth chemicals. That is not the case up in the mountains. I'm very confident it was the water.

I don't follow US government food regulations.
The emphasis on rice, starch and grains is quite terrible.
Wheat/grain/corn processing and preservation in the states is directly related to a myriad of gastro and diabetic issues in the US population.
There is not enough protein recommended or encouraged.
    Sugar is added to everything.
    I could keep going...

I also don't live in America.

Whether or not I am on HCG, we always eat a diet high in fish, wild game, leafy greens, colorful vegetables, minimal fruit, locally picked berries, no chemically processed fats or oils, no added hormones, sugars or dyes... very limited simple starches and carbohydrates. I'm that mom who makes all of the kids eat some protein and a vegetable before they get cake (which is made with reduced sugars/syrups/nectars and whole-grain ingredients, but doesn't taste any different) at birthday parties. And then they don't go home to their families on a sugar crash. My mom was the same way when I was a child. None of this is new to me, though the trendy snacks available today definitely make it a lot easier to pack protein in during the day!

I'm very confident that our family's diet is excellent.

    Happy February!

Mermaid, what a good mom (and wife) you are.It takes a lot effort to make sure a family is getting the right things to eat, and to sell it to them so they'll eat the good things you provide. I'm sure you don't have near the sort of bad influences we have here in the States, but it's still not easy.

Pearly, how frustrating to see the jumps (and dips) in weight and not be able to explain them. We want a linear relationship between what we put in our mouths and what we see on the scale. It doesn't always work that way and it makes us crazy. That's when I wonder if weighing so frequently is not a good thing.

Leez, even though you are having to wind up your round early, it sounds like it was a complete success. Congrats!

Well, I'm still only getting in 900-1000 cals a day (~75gms protein). I'm on Day 9 of P3 and my weight has gone down the last two days. I'm 1lb under LIW and not unhappy about that. BUT I'm now worried that by the time I manage to get my calories up, I'll see gain. It's crazy how there is always something to obsess and worry about!

gz9, for keto how did you establish how much protein to get each day? All the 'official' sources say 55gms for me but I know I've read that older adults need a lot more than that but I can't find a credible source. Two more days before leaving, so I'm trying my best to do all the right things before food sourcing gets difficult.

Mermaid, it sounds like you understand the western dietary problems - so few do.

But a clean diet may also help explain relatively slow weight loss with hcg. When my diet drifts into unhealthier eating, I can lose significant weight with hcg. When my diet has been clean, my losses can be frustratingly low. I have my best losses after travel, when I eat and drink stuff I know I shouldn't.

Mo55, it was trial and error. The protein guidelines are phrased with respect to "reference weight", whatever that is! I suspect your 75 g is in the ball park, but the 55 g would be far too low. But: protein source matters too. Animal proteins are generally far, far more bioavailable than plant proteins. Plant proteins are generally over-estimated, because they don't actually measure proteins, they burn the food and measure nitrogen, then use a ratio to calculate protein.
