It's Sunday afternoon, and just read your post PearlyMae. Good for you, you're doing great. Aren't you way into P4, like a month or two? And stablizing really well, I say it will NEVER cease to amaze me how this protocol works, and how you can stablize eating food! I keep thinking about what is so different, and probably if I am honest, for me--it is limiting processed sugars (junk food) and learning if I have any of that, smaller portions! And like you said, with 1500-1800 calories, totally satisfied. I think I am eating closer to 1800 cal a day. A heaping spoonful of mashed potatoes can satisfy, don't have to have 2/3 of them. Don't need seconds. I will say when I make a salad, I do make a large salad, but that is usually my meal with chicken and even bacon bit crumbles on top. Sooooo good And I don't put "diet dressing" on top, I go for the good stuff! Anyway, congrats on your low number on scales, while eating! wow!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. It is hot here--but I do love spring and summer.

AFM: On day 8 of P4 for me, still stablizing. My weight is nothing near to PearlyMae's, but was 161.2 this morning--so still 1.4 below last dose weight. And I AM eating. I don't count carbs at all, but don't really eat many of them, I guess. And I don't limit my "fats" intake, use mayo or bacon crumbles, salad dressings, creamer--all of these things that really help with food satisfaction levels and no feelings of deprivation. I'm happy. Hoping it all continues. And hope it all goes well for you all too.

I hope this thread continues. I know there are others on this forum but this has been my home thread thru a lot of years.

I hope I have hold of maintenance more securely than ever before. I have started creeping up again by this time other rounds.

I give credit to you others who are also staying on this thread for P3 and P4. I’m learning so much from you!
I will stick around through the first few weeks of P4. It is hard after that. I planned on sticking with my hippy group as well and encourage others waiting for surgery but it just doesn't happen. Life takes hold. That isOK. Someone else will be here. This group now has been wonderful though! I don't remember it being this supportive and positive!

And what about “natural” sugars in fruit and dairy? For years, I avoided all fruits, and only had dairy HWC in my coffee and a pinch of shredded cheese on top of stuff.

My diet was really limited so not surprising that every time I hit a bump in the road, I ditched the whole idea, eating for comfort and / energy.

Even when I thought I was following protocol, I would start to creep up again. I think this time I have figured out that I was over-limiting calories, too, so that I was stressing my body and always on the edge of survival mode, so when I had any carbs, it grabbed onto them for dear life and would not let go.

    Maybe.

Anyway, I’ve been tracking with Carb Manager app, tho it took a while to get used to it. It is not set up for maintenance and I have to ignore it when it says: !AVOID!when I have yogurt or an apple, but it does help me see how I’ve spread my food intake.

In the 2.0 protocol it says to keep “carbs” at around 20% of my calories but how much is that?? CarbManager lets me set my food up how I want so I set protein at 40%, fat at 45% and carbs at 15%. (Net)Then it tracks it for me.

I seldom hit the top end of any of those but was surprised to find that at 1800 calories I could have 68 carbs. I rarely get 1800 calories, more like 1500 on average. I also rarely get near 68.
What I did this P3 and then P4 is just eat normal meals. In P4 when I added carbs, I didn't count but it was at most a quarter of my plate. I am treating carbs as a side dish or condiment, focusing on protein and greens. Greens need to be a good 1/3-1/2 of my plate.
Two danger areas for me: skipping that salad or green stuff and grabbing or adding extra carbs. When I manage the carbs this way, I seem to be fine. Occasional treat when there is something to celebrate. So I don't know. I used to count and weigh and follow macros and all that and there was certainly a time I needed this. This feels much easier and sustainable. When my weight creeps up it is probably because I didn't pay attention to how many greens and carbs I had.

You are doing so well! Sounds like you have found a happy balance. This kind of happened to me the same way.

Well, loading in this heat is not the best. I am not hungry. Last night I forgot my third set of drops. Good grief. I usually end up lower than the 12/3x/day but still, it is how I like to start out. I hope this is not a foreboding of this coming round.

Oh, and I found this gem when reading up on PI. This dance is for when you cheat, ladies and gents! Look it up. T-Tapp Hoe Downs
I always read something new when I read Pounds & Inches.
Anyway, I should be good with an interruption after 25 days of P2.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday and stays cool if you are in a heatwave! 90º at 10:30 here. Expecting 115. And it is not cooling down much tonight it looks like. Upper 80's through the night. What gives, people?? No central air here. Just a few window units. The hottest room stays around 82. The rest is a little cooler but not much. Doable as long as these window units hold though! They aren't used to working this hard. And my poor chickens. I can't tell if they are annoyed or thankful that I mist them all afternoon. But hey, they survived yesterday.

Oh, and my husband and son arrived in NY yesterday. His reception day is tomorrow, 6am. Can't wait to see pics! So proud!!

Thanks Mrsstrong! I'm on day 2 of loading and you reminded me I have ice cream in the freezer!

And yes, hard to eat when it's so hot.

If I *had* forgotten and then saw that gelato in the freezer 2 days into P2, well... that would have been a heartbreak :-)

It's Monday morning, P2, day 1 for you misscast--I'm thinking. Good luck with this round. And MrsS, good luck to you too! I have drops and pellets, but don't trust myself to remember to take them as scheduled, so that's why I have been doing the injections this year, even tho I did the homeopathic, and rx drops before in the past. I couldn't remember then, and that was 11 years ago! Hot here, too, but only in 90's--lower nineties. And off an on cloudy, so a little relief for the grass.

This morning is a little bit of puzzle. Up 1.4 this morning, still 1 lb below last dose weight, but wondering why such a large jump. The only thing I added yesterday was cantalope. When I eat cantalope, I salt it. Has anyone else had difficulties with addition of cantalope? Just wondering if that is culprit. Think I won't eat any today and see if that matters. Would rather not go up anymore this week as my company is coming on Thursday for 5-6 days, and there will be additional eating/drinking then. Would like to be at my lowest level then.

Hoping this isn't a upward spiral and that all of you had a better weigh-in this morning than I did!

Me, too, Dubs! I was up .4 yesterday and up .4 today. Like you, I’ve been running under my LDW, but ANY up is worrying! There is the fear that it will just continue, every day forever! Lol.

I had a small portion of watermelon. Both cantaloup and watermelon are higher in sugar than most fruits, but come on, I had a banana without gains.

Maybe just gravitational shifts due to hot weather.

    Onward!

Totally get what you are saying, Polly. Would hate the trend to continue! And banana is prob one of the very highest sugar content fruits, why would cantaloupe be an issue. I don't know, kinda worrisome. Guess we'll see if dropping it today will make a difference tomorrow morning. As you say, Onward--we aren't going to stress about it too much. (hopefully? I'm a little stressed)

There are so many factors behind scale jumps. Most of the time, its just normal water fluctuation, but its always a concern that it will become a trend. Here are a couple things to consider:

More than likely, small gains can be related to heat and humidity if you are experiencing that in your region. When air is humid, your skin holds more moisture and it can show up on the scale.

Melons, especially cantaloupe are prone to carrying molds....if you are mold sensitive, that can be a reason for a reaction like a big jump on the scale. Its not necessarily a food sensitivity.

So here I am at 8 weeks past last day of P2 and have gone just one pound over my last patch weight. Seem to be stabilizing right there. Which is not to say I haven’t had bouts of 2 over and 2 under but I seem to snap right back to this weight when I spend a few days eating well. My downfall is snacking and alcohol which I am limiting massively. I have had exactly 2 drinks since January. At work I’m on the 10 hour days so my day starts at 4am ends at 5 by the time I get home so I am waiting until end of this before I start up again maybe mid August. I have 10-15 pounds to go but the re-shaping I’m doing is amazing. At work no one said anything about my weight until I started the re shaping process. I used certain jeans as a gauge to tell and it has been amazing. The actual number on the scale is the same but the body is changing. Always hard to wrap your head around that.

Jeanette, so good to hear your update! I hear what you are saying. I lost all that weight, but only at end of last P3 did people really start noticing. My husband noticed, but a lot of others didn't say anything--which is fine by me. I did purchase a couple of size 10 jeans the other day. But can still wear12's, they just aren't very snug. The 14's kinda fall off--but I can't bring myself yet to give them away. That could be seen as a crutch--hope no excuse to regain. I'm right there with you, needing to lose 10-15 more, at most. I plan on going back to p2 in mid August, so hop on and join me then! I'd love the company.
