Rose and PearlyMae, I go by a chart from Virta.com which shows I need to get 77 grams of protein; based on age, gender, weight, and height. That means at least 308 cals of protein. Since even the leanest meats and fish always have some fat, I have trouble staying under 500 cals. But I take your point, Rose: staying as low as possible is the best strategy.

You do burn more calories and you may be more hungry so exercising can make you fluctuate more, but then you need to take your weight over a few days and take the average. Muscle soreness can also lead to higher weight because the inflammation is water retention as the muscles grow/heal. It really becomes about trusting the process and your body, experiment, and not give up. When I am confused I go back to strict P3 eating and things even out.
I also don't count calories and I make sure I drink electrolytes so that my hunger is not actually thirst (I have found that to be a thing for me!).

I am so sorry to hear Penny is not doing well. So hard!
I am finding that I need a snack around 4 and I need to bring food with me when I am gone too long or I get the same. The one thing I loved about keto is that I never ever got this. Could go hours. I need to put some snacks in the car!

I’m taking it easy for now and am not overdoing it. I will hop on the bike this weekend. Pilates is more my speed during this time. You turned me on to the perfect aminos and I don’t know if I really noticed anything but only took one serving as I read not to do more If you take an anti-depressant.
I was down 4.8 lbs todayI knew a lot of it was just bloat and think this is more of a real starting point for me.
I love spicy too and used to use Frank’s hot sauce. I have also been okay with salsa though I know it’s technically mixing vegetables.
Only day 2 of VLCD so I’ve got a long ways to go.
Pearly, I am sorry that Penny isn’t doing well. Hopefully they can do that surgery.

ASF, I am holding steady still but my weight is definitely up when eating plantain chips. It hovers around the +2# mark or slightly over. When I don't eat them I stay around 150. 151.6 the last two days of eating them. I did the experiment twice now with the same result. So I can either allow myself some every so many days or forget about them altogether. I may try corn chips instead and see. I am not sure if this is a sensitivity or simply that added carbs means more water retention since it is the only thing right now that kicks me into carb-burning mode. Without them I am very low carb or even keto, the highest carbs being yogurt, strawberries, and tomatoes. Mmmm. Maybe instead of focusing on the plantain chips, I need to eat more carbs and see where I stabilize. Mmmmm.
Other than this, well my lady parts have been a problem.
OK TMI so gents, you are done reading.
First, the never-ending UTI that is finally gone (10 days of no returning symptoms at all finally, so I think it is safe to say), then a yeast infection (gone for a week so also safe to say I think), and now I have what I think is a cyst on one of my outer labia. It's big and painful, swollen, red. The thing is I don't shave down there and these are typically caused by an ingrown hair. I am not sure what to do and am hoping it will go away on its own, but wtf?? I am 53 and the last time I had any of these things was in my teens and early 20's. My life and sexual habits have not changed much in the last decade or more so it is unrelated to that. Anyway, for now, I am icing the part and will start taking baths to see if that softens the skin and opens it up. I don't see anything though as far as a hair. My midwife will be happy to cut it and lance it and what not but I am so not ready for that! LOL It is interesting to note that I was at 160 when I had my hip surgeries and I wonder if part of this all is not a form of detoxing those chemicals that were stored in fat. I have no idea but always find these things interesting. And since things come in threes hopefully I am now done.

Could just be bacteria. If I work out I always shower and change due to the sweat factor. Could be detox related too. Ouch!! I sometimes get breakthrough bleeding in HCG but I take my pill continuously so I don’t get my period. I am scared if menopause too!! lol.
I sometimes think that HCG messed me up forever when it comes to carbs but I think it’s more of my mindset and lack of control once I start eating them. Sucks!!!

Oh, that makes sense! Not sure why it would all of a sudden be bothering me/why my immune system is down. Will give it a boost!
For me, it was about learning a new relationship. It was only after these last 3 rounds that it clicked. Before that I preferred staying keto because I just couldn't handle carbs at all, whether it was mental or physical or both.

PearlyMae - How's Penny? It's so hard when they get older. Ha, guess that's the case for many people too.
Now in P4 and wasn't really interested in moving out of P3. Tried some quinoa today and it just didn't sit right in my mouth??? Weird. Had some popcorn a couple of nights ago and went up 3 lbs. Next day went down 3 lbs. Of course, I fricking love popcorn and apparently, at least for now it's not in the cards for me. Other than that, I've been pretty steady, no steak or any other kinds of days, just eating what I want. Still want to release another 5 lbs and that will happen when I get more serious about exercising. Good to be back and I probably will be in and out less frequently as my schedule is packed.

When I get that hungry / skaky, I make a cup of salty bouillon. For me, that takes the edge off hunger and stops the shakes.
Your experience sounds similar to mine. I'm always feeling horrible after the second loading day, but glad its over, feeling great VLCD1 and NEVER HUNGRY.
