Been keto for a decade or so. Last time in between rounds may just have been an isolated time because carbs have always done this. I have never been diagnosed with diabetes though.

I hope it didn't seem I implied you had, MrsStrong.

My own high/abnormal A1c was at my highest weight in 2017, and after many years of testing normal. I did my first round of hcg and then switched to keto. My A1c has never tested above normal since then; but I know I will always have the underlying problem. Fortunately, I love the keto WOE.

I'm curious: how did you learn about keto that long ago? I only became aware of keto when I researched a weight-loss program and doctor at IU Health, Dr Sarah Hallberg.

P3d2 - 926 cals yesterday, eggs with butter, yum! and a small portion of my Mom's recipe baby back ribs.

    Hello,

Mrsstrong... well, you with the coconut oil stuff but for me, I cannot eat cabbage! For some reason it makes me gain every single time!! Weird I know and I really do love it. I used to put it in soups, coleslaw was always a top choice for me with any kind of protein, of course I know the dressing can have a lot of sugar in it. I guess we all have our food demons!! Glad you are feeling better and know what you can and can't eat for stabilization!

Starbucks, woohoo!! Way to go girl!!

Natalie, I am so sorry about your dad!! I just learned of a guy that used to work for us lost his battle after being in the hospital for 5 weeks with covid. So very sad and scary!! Please take care of yourself and my sincere condolences to you and your family! Hugs!!

Dubbs, yes, growing up, and even when my kids were little we always celebrated with food and of course, dessert! I really need to try and change that to maybe a hike or something...haha, yeah right, who am I fooling!! I am for sure going to stop in at the next Wendy's I see and order that salad!! We don't have one super close to me but I do know where there is one on my way down to my moms house. Will have to give that a try for sure!! I recently visited an olive oil company here in my town and they had the best combo of lemon olive oil and an apple vinager which would be great for salads! I bought them both but haven't used them yet but sounds like it would go well with that salad. Good to hear you have wiggle room, that is always nice!!

Gz, my mom has type 2 diabetes as well so it does run in my family too, haven't had blood work done in a long while, probably need to pretty soon though, as my oldest brother is on the verge of it as well and has to really watch his carb intake. Sounds like you are doing great with your A1C's and knowing how to control it!! Good for you and great round!!

Well as for me, I have been trying some stuff that I normally would avoid just to see how the scale moves. My daughter made these trader joes gluten free pumpkin muffins yesterday which I slathered with butter and ate one. Also ate one a little bit ago and it is sitting in my stomach like a brick at the moment, so not sure I will have any more of those. Also had wine with my neighbor last night and her husband set a plate down with garlic bread that he had made and insisted on me having one. I only had a small piece, since I had covid, I cannot handle any garlilc on anything, thankfully I had that excuse, so I didn't go crazy with it. But her and I finished off a bottle, so about 2 glasses of red wine before coming home and making delicata squash with pork chops and a salad for dinner. This morning I was up .4, but down .6 yesterday so I am still within my window, just .5 above my LIW. I guess just finding a balance of foods is key for me, I really do need to start to an exercise though and it is finally starting to cool off here...ahhh, fall is in the air!

Thanks, MrsStrong! That looks like a great book to get.

I came upon keto from the original Atkins diet, then Hallberg's studies, the VirtaHealth blog, plus Volek & Phinney's books. Maybe Gedgaudas' book will help me avoid weight creep. Guys on keto seem to be able to eat anything they want . . . me, not so.

Phoebe, I seldom find substitutes satisfying - crackers, breads, chips - I would rather have a sample size of the real thing than the substitute. Costco is doing samples again, yay! and they had Cape Cod kettle chips last week . . .

I haven't figured out why "gluten free" is so popular, since very few people actually have problems with it. I tried low-carb flour; taste and texture were OK but the carbs are still too high. The only substitute that works for me is Allulose, which is a natural low-glycemic sugar that doesn't cause me digestive troubles . . . I have a pantry full of xylitol, erithritol, and various sweetener blends, which I no longer use.

I find her protein recommendation to be too low for me but everyone is different. Just FYI. Many years of fine tuning my own ranges. I have a chart I like that I can share.

Good Saturday Morning everyone! Looks like I'm on the forum more than I expected to be--here it is P4, day 2 and I'm on everyday this week. Just had to post--I think I need to join the anti coconut oil faction of group. Went to see new James Bond movie last night, and since on P4 decided to indulge in Popcorn for first time in forever--so ordered small popcorn with butter, took a tiny little baggie of sugar-free mini-chocolate chips to eat too. So enjoyed like old days, Candy and popcorn, but in small portions. Didn't think there would be a problem. Ate the entire small bag of popcorn, so good. Weighed this morning. Was up 1.2 lbs to 153.0, still below last dose weight, but up 1.2 from yesterday's weight! Was surprised. Yesterday didn't eat badly--ate salad for lunch, tuna with plantain chips (not a lot) for dinner, then the popcorn at movie. When I saw the gain on scales, goggled movie popcorn and saw that most theatres cook their popcorn in coconut oil because it taste so much better than when cooked with other oils. So maybe I have the problem of being coconut oil sensitive as well. Good to to know, so I'm right there with you mrsstrong, and all the others that are sensitive to coconut. So, in future, think I'll forego the popcorn at movies. I like it, but don't have to have it. Think I can actually have sugar and not have a gain reaction like the coconut oil. We'll see. So today, lots of water, and mostly protein today. Still under last dose weight, so no need for a correction, but lose to get back my wiggle room. Several of the band members and wives are supposed to go listen to old band member and his group tonite, so there will be a little drinking tonite, but I may choose not to drink, and don't want to be out all that late, doesn't have to be an all night thing. Everything opening up, more options, being on P4, it's going to take a lot of self discipline to control choices, to keep gains to minimum or non-existent, which is the plan. Such a beautiful day outside, sure doesn't feel like fall. More like summer still, need to get out and enjoy, it won't last forever. Hope everyone is weighing in as they like and doing well. Have a great day everyone, make it happen!

Hi sweetpea! Good to hear from you, and that you have stablized. Good luck on this round!

Dubbles, both movie theater popcorn and chocolate? Either one would cause me gains, just from the carbs. I gave up popcorn but I won't give up chocolate! I use coconut oil for cooking, and coconut cream in ice cream; neither have caused me oroblems caused me problems. We're all different . . .

gz, well I had just a tiny bit of the Lily's sugar free chocolate chips. Love chocolate with popcorn. And the Lily's chocolate never bothers me, even in P3. It's the coconut oil in the popcorn, I'm thinking. Will eliminate that for sure. Changed avatar picture, thinking maybe I could get attach one that would not be sideways, but my computer just enters them sideways for some reason. Leez sent me a link to correct, but I can 't seem to do it. I'm not computer savy, sorry and I don't want to bother anyone.
