MissM, yes, we all have to figure out what's best for us. For keto, there are a couple of simple of keys:

    1. Emphasize whole foods rather than processed - because the food industry is really good at creating delicious, addictive stuff with hidden sugars and starches.

    2. Because the keto diet includes so much fat, the type and quality are important. In particular, learn about the balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats. The current American diet is about 1:16 but our bodies do better with 1:1; so I avoid Soybean and Canola oils. Better to use butter, olive and avocado oils, as well as meat fats.

    Welcome!

I like Maple Grove Farms Sugar Free Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing. It can be difficult to find in stores, so I order it on-line.

    Hello, all.
I'm on my way home from Ia, leaving my precious Penny at the Ia State Vet School Small Animal Hospital. Oh boy. Can't talk about t much cuz my eyes leak and my nose gets itchy. They are not sure that the surgery will be necessary, but it may still be, after another round ($2000!) of tests. Hope they figure it out before they use up all the money I was going to spend on the surgery for tests. Sheesh. So hard to leave her.

Airline stirkes, bad weather. I may just THINK I am heading home.

Just jumping on here to say never underestimate the power of SLEEP on weight loss or maintenance. Last week I was hungry every day and finally realiaed that once again, I was not really eating enough. So stressed wtih so much, I was skipping meals without thinking about it, or just having a pc of cheese or turkey and feeling full so did something else. But even more annoying, I have been super, super TIRED! I was up 3-5 times with Penny several nights after returning from my reunion, and one night, did such a dumb thing: I sometimes take a caffeine pill before I get up on days when I thiink I will really tired. I woke up and thought it was probably almost time to get up and felt aweful, so I took one, keep it by my bed. Then I looked at the clock and it was only 3 a.m. Ugh. Needless to say, I did not go back to sleep the rest of the night. By the mid-week, I was manic I was so tired, and lo and behold, hit 130 again. Now, to you who have a 150 goal and try to keep a little wiggle room, just think hitting 150 after you have been 147.xx for weeks. Not time for a steak day, but not what ya want!

But I got some 8 hour nights in where I really slept, and was down again to 129, then 127.4. Whew. The slept really well Friday night, and when i got up, I thought, well, I am up an hour earlier than usual, so I just won't weigh, but it is such a habit I found myself on the scale anyway. 125.2 Are you kidding me??? I used to TRY so hard to get to 125 and could never susatain it. I am sure I will wipe that out with this trip, but just saying: SLEEP is so important! I weighed EARLY, not late.

Today, I had a huge piece of chocolate cake at the airport and alcohol. THAT ought to put me back to 130. LOL. I jsut had to bury my worry in chocolate, which I dont' have much access to at home IT was the only dessert in the restauarant, other than fried funnel cake. Is that a thing now?

So, like that TV ad, sorry, not sorry! I figured for once I had room. But like Karen and her muffins, now I'm not so sure about it. blech. Feel kind of not so good. So, that should do me for another couple of years.

Penny is going to be fine. They will find out what is best for her. She is in good hands. Just really hard for me to leave her. Oh boy, my nose is itching again.

    Onward.

    Hello you beautiful people!!

I just got through reading everyone's posts and want to say good job to those that are nailing it and good luck to those just starting out. This diet works amazing as long as you don't veer off the path too much. I stayed pretty much on plan food wise during P2. Didn't change too much up except had to eat eggs more often because I just couldn't do anymore chicken. I also would eat turkey burgers which I guess are not on plan but they worked for me. I would always cook a few extra so I had some for the next day or two. Good luck to you all in P2!!

Well, as for me, I went a little overboard with food/dessert/wine, and I have come to the conclusion that it's not always a good thing to "think" you can tolerate certain foods, that just gave me an excuse to try more and more. I think I would be better off if I had more issues! Well, that being said, I weighed in at 155.5 yesterday!! So I went from 152.9 on Friday to 155.5 yesterday!! And then yesterday I tried to be really good but dang... watching football and having wine with neighbors who just keep pouring, and eating snacks the entire day, (Including popcorn) I was surprised I wasn't up more today, but somehow I went down to 153.9. Oh well... you really do live and learn. Will try to get back on a good eating plan this week and hopefully make it back down below my LIW!!

Pearly...praying for Penny and I agree 100% with sleep!! I have a terrible time sleeping most nights but when I do get a good night sleep I seem to have a better weigh in.

    Onward~

    Good morning Lovelies -

Warm again this morning, but there are really dark clouds moving in, I think it's going to rain. I'm hoping it clears back off so I can walk. I sat out in the sun yesterday, and while I am thinner, oh my! I am flabby. Gotta get back to my free weights as soon as I finish P3.

    P3d6, 1100 cals yesterday, 136.3# today.

    Thumbs up

Polly, we are SOOOOOO pulling for Miss Penny. Like you said, she'll be fine, but it sure is stressful to leave her, isn't it. But, like you said, she is in the best hands possible. They'll keep you posted, I'm sure. So is the plan for you to go back this coming weekend? Hope you'll keep all of us posted, You know we all wait anxiously for your postings about her, probably more than about you! Ha. Half way kidding, but half way not--You know how crazy we pet people are! 125 lbs, you deserve to enjoy every crumb of that chocolate cake! Hope it was nice and moist and chocolatey! I have sleep issues too, Polly, so feel your pain, but have not found a lot of solutions for my sleep issues truthfully. I'm more a slave to my dogs sleep cycles than anything else, they tell me when they want to go to bed and when they want to get up, drives me crazy sometimes. Hope you get home ok and this week while she is in good hands hope you get some good rest yourself.

raleighgrl--welcome! Good luck on your round! Looks like you already have purchased quite a few supplies for your round, I just found the George Foreman grill to be a lifesaver for me. I cooked my chicken and fish almost daily on the GF grill, it was quick, and all the fat drained off. Loved it. Like I said, used it almost daily. If you don't have one to prepare your protein on, it is well worth the investment. But I wasn't very adventurous with my cooking, always loved people's receipes, but stuck mainly to grilled chicken, grilled tilapia (got the tilapia tenderloins from Costco) and alternated those for meals, and once in a while the lower fat beef for a break--it never seemed to hurt my losses. Fortunately I never developed meat or chicken aversions. I still like the chicken and fish on the GF grill, even when not on P2. Good luck!

gz, mrsstrong--tried keto for a while--did not work for me at all. There's more to it than I realized, so gave up on it pretty quickly.

miss m, wonderful to hear from you! We really went thru withdrawal there for a while. You and Yvonne both left about the same time and we were all so bummed. It was great to see you post again. I'll tell myself I'm not going to post so much, but i find myself here pretty regularly, it seems to keep me accountable. Even tho I don't have much to say! Ha. And getting on thread and seeing a post from you was such a great surprise. Sounds like you are still doing doing pretty good. Life does happen and creeping up on the scales happens to most of us. I 'm really afraid to not stay on forum, afraid I will really relax and then the creep will begin, slow and steady. We'll see. I'm on P4 now, only on Day 5 of this P4, and today weighed .2 over last dose weight, that's no good, going in wrong direction, thinking I'm being too casual with my addition of "good carbs". I agree P3 and P4 is the real challenge, where the real battles are fought! But I love P3 and P4! It is real life! You don't have Hcg, you have to use self-control and discipline, gain knowledge of what your body will and will not tolerate. There is where you can truly live. And it is a process for sure. On-going. Welcome back, again we missed you. Hope Yvonne is doing well, too.

Jeanette, I had no doubt you were going around fully dressed! Ha. Heh, I get it on being in-between sizes. I have gotten rid of any 16s and 14s in my closet, but have to say, a lot of 12's I am just storing. I don't trust myself quite yet. In my closet and drawers am keeping only 8s and 10s stacked, folded or hung on hangers, at the ready. But the 12's --not ready to give away yet. Prob not a good idea, but I can't help it. You're in p4 now too--right. I'm not feeling like I have as good control this P4 as I did last time. I'm hovering around last dose weight, this morning up .2 from last dose weight. Last time I hovered a couple of lbs below last dose weight. Not sure of difference, what I'm doing wrong. Maybe adding too many carbs, maybe the plantain chips are effecting me, when I thought they didn't--but if I can eat them and not go way above, maybe it is worth it? Kwim? I did add that low carb bread, maybe that's it. How many carbs do you say you eat a day? I know miss m said about 10 at one time, but that wasn't working out. No way am I going to stick to 10 a day. I haven't even been counting carbs. I really just try to keep to no sugars, and low carbs. I'm a little concerned how this stablization is going to go.

Charlie, hang in there, sounds like you are doing well. In 50's now. You always get it done.

Phoebe, life happens. Football season, tailgaiting, watching the games, snacking, having a beer, or drink while watching the game, even if coke while having pizza while watching game, it's part of football season. But Your're back to 153? That's not bad at all. That's about where I am, 153.8 this a.m., but I'd prefer to be about 151, we'll get there. I'm going to finish my tuna and plantain chips today, then going to do one or two days of high, mostly protein, with beef burgers and chicken tenders I'm thinking, and salad, with very few carbs for Wednesday and Thursday, see if I can get to the 151 something. by the weekend It is an on-going process and won't stop this week or next, for sure. One thing I have noticed, which I am extremely happy about- my skin is started to shrink and fit with weight loss. Does that make sense? I've started doing a few arm exercises and I think next summer will feel better with short sleeved clothes. This year too much weight loss in arms, wore 3/4 length sleeves mostly. But skin is finally tightening up! So much goes on in p3 and p4. Love that. So the process continues even after weight loss.

I need to get dressed, have a appt at dermatologist to check a couple of spots on face, make sure they are not the start of skin cancers. I had skin cancer removed in 2017 with MOHS surgery and it was traumatic. Do not want to go thru that again, so I have everything checked asap. Then have hair appmt so a busy day. Will check on every one later. Have a good one!

Exercise will help, but much tightening and firming occurs during P3 and P4. Really.

I hope so, Dubbles, but this is not so much flab, as it is wimpy muscles. I am starting my abs and butt exercises, and knee-strengthening; all foundational to further improvements. I am pleased I dropped 1# from LDW - Onward!

Regarding sleep, I agree with you and PearlyMae - missing sleep messes me up so much. I had a spell of insomnia years back and had to re-train myself: no reading or TV in bed; if I can't sleep, go somewhere else until I'm ready to fall asleep again; and take 3 to 5 mg Melatonin about 1/2 hour before bed. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I sometimes take another Melatonin tablet. My sleep has also really improved since I got to turn off my 5:30 am alarm! In the summer, my cats woke me at 6:30, now they are letting me sleep to 7.

Oh Pearly I am keeping Penny in my prayers. Nothing better than unconditional love! So upsetting when our people are not well. My 14 year old bichon is getting me up twice a night and its totally true when you get to sleep all night it shows on the scale next day.

I don't count the calories but I did a couple weeks ago and a typical day was only getting me like 1095 calories. Like what the heck. So the weight started creeping up so I decided to try this every other day introduce more carbs than just veggie carbs. Already lost a pound after one day of this. Thank goodness. Granted it was only oatmeal but todays a protein day so have to think about what to introduce tomorrow. Kind of an experiment but I would like to live my life with more whole grains. After being keto so long the mindsets hard to change. I love sweet potato so may have to go buy one. I have no carbs in the house.

P2 advice? Spices and if you like food spicy add that to meats. Drink lots of water or tea. I never drink enough and it gets me every time. Flavored coffee also is like a treat if you like it iced.

Well back to to work but everyone have a great day!
    Jeanette
