The 5 Rules of Leptin- Byron Richard's Program

This thread is for those of you who want to do the leptin reset using Byron Richard's approach. The source is the book Mastering Leptin http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Lept...1&sr=8-1-spell There is also information on his websites: http://www.byronrichards.com/ and http://www.wellnessresources.com/

I'll post the specifics when I have a little more time, but the basics are the same as Dr. Kruse- 3 meals a day at least 4 hrs apart, no snacking, no eating within 3-4 hours of going to bed, protein for breakfast, reduced carbs. The food plan choices are not as restrictive, and you don't have to eat such a huge amount of protein at breakfast.

I have contacted Richard's by email and have asked if he would be willing to interact with us and answer our questions. If he agrees, I'll start a thread for questions only- so he doesn't have to wade through all our chatter! Then we'll have all his input in one central location.

    Byron J. Richard's Leptin Diet

    1. Never eat after dinner
    - Allow 11-12 hours between dinner and breakfast
    - Never go to bed on a full stomach
    - Finish dinner at least 3 hours before bed

    2. Eat 3 meals a day
    - Allow 5-6 hours between meals
    - Do not snack

    3. Do not eat large meals
    - Always try to finish a meal slightly before you are full
    - Eat slowly
    - Listen to internal cues, that you are full, and stop eating

    4. Eat a breakfast containing protein
    - Up protein if you are dealing with strong cravings and find it difficult to get to lunch
    - Eggs (not smothered in butter and cheese), cottage cheese, peanut butter, almond butter, high efficiency whey protein, chicken, meat, turkey

    5. Reduce the amount of carbohydrates eaten
    - Eat some carbohydrates though
    - "50/50 technique": palm-sized portion of protein (4-6 ounces for women, 6-8 ounces for men) and a palm-sized amount of carbohydrates
    - Bread, rice, pasta, squash, potatoes, fruit, corn
    - No calorie counting
    - Take 1-2 tablespoons of good soluble fiber if you are not feeling full
    - Fill up on fiber-rich vegetables

Please keep me in this loop. I like listening to his podcasts. He's a positive guy. thanks for doing this.

PS: Today we had a snow storm!!! it's 35 degrees outside, no electricity and the day before Halloween! (I'm in NY). I'm on R3P2D28 or 29 and when I awoke to this crazy situation...freezing in my house with no heat or stove, I decided it had to be my LDW. So, as I take homeopathic drops, today is my first of 2 days without them. Can wait till Nov1 and a BAB with a porterhouse steak. I enjoy all your intelligent posts, by the way.

I am really liking BR stuff. First, it seems a much more reasonable approach to every day living. I can't see how a petite woman could eat the large amount of protein that DR suggested and I have struggled getting into the 40 gr's each day. I can't say too much right now, I have not read his book, I have ordered it from the library and will write more after I read it. But I have viewed some of his youtube stuff and I am going to continue viewing the rest of his posts to further my education. Knowledge is power...one method is not perfect for everyone. Finding what works for you is the key to a life time of good health. DK's method has had some things that have certainly helped me. I don't have the sugar cravings anymore, I don't have a snack urge at night either. I can get through the day on three meals with no problems. All of that is because I started the DK's method, but I can't consume the protein he recommends either and I am not going to beat myself up for it either.

For me, I KNOW I am struggling with hormone issues, peri menopause for 7 years creates chaos in the body. I must be flexible to work with my ever changing body. I must keep an open mind to options and I must become more knowledgeable to help myself. I love hearing about other people's success and I love knowing their disappointments, it helps us all.

Is this meant for P3 or P4? Byron Richard says to eat more carbs that P3 allows.

You would not follow that plans dinner suggestions in P3, because you can't have the starches.

This is a 4 year old thread. In the couple years surrounding this thread, it was thought that doing the Leptin Reset was a way to stabilize better in P3 and a lot of people were doing the BAB (Big Assed Breakfast), eating huge amounts of mostly protein and fat, and following the meals spacing and such. I'm unfamiliar with whether the plan posted in this topic is the basic Leptin Reset or not. Anyway, some did ok on it, but a big number of people did not. And there were enough in that trouble group that the practice fell into disfavor. No one much does it for P3 anymore. Grammy has some theories about why it failed for so many. I'm sure you can use the forum search to find more info on it if you are interested.

I saw that it was old. I didn't know it had fallen out of favour though. I'll try search but that seems to be a bit tricky on my phone and I don't have computer access right now.

I'll see if I can pull up a couple of topics for you.

    2011: Leptin Reset & P3, P4

hmmm. interesting. Almost all the search results that would have been relevant link to an error saying the page is not available. I think you'll probably need to ask grammy directly about it.
