You can take most supplements during P2 if you wish, however, nutrients stored in your fat cells will be released as the fat is burned off. So you will be getting vitamins, minerals, and whatever other substances are stored there. Its usually enough that you don't need to supplement those things during P2.

The supplements you would want to discontinue during P2 would be ones that contain sugar or oils in any significant quantity. The tiny little vitamin D3 capsules will not be an issue, but something like those giant fish oil capsules would. The rice or starch fillers in some supplements are no problem because they are tiny amounts and a bit of starch is part of the protocol anyway.

If you are taking fiber supplements, switch to magnesium and vitaminC. The powdered prebiotics may be fine. Depends on the ingredients. If you want to list them, I can comment.

Leez, Husband is insistent about my going to dinner with friends Monday nite--actually I know I should go. It is one of our very good friend's birthday s o I need to go. Do you think I should skip hcg Monday? Or just eat p3 and hope for the best re gaining weight the next day. I would skip Sat/sun/mon (like a planned interruption for one meal), but I need to do those dose days to have a rasonabloe length of round, since I need to be off to travel at end of month. Would skipping that one day make any sense, do any good in countering gain at all? I hate doing this, but I really need to support her--even if eating just p3 for one meal. Any suggestions?

For one meal, don't change your dosing pattern. Remember that HCG overlaps in your system for several days. Skipping a dose isn't going to help you mitigate a cheat. You are only having one questionable meal. Just do the best you can and hop right back on protocol afterwards.

Depending on where the celebration is, you may be able to stay close to protocol with a plain vegetable and protein. A shrimp cocktail and sliced tomatoes is a good restaurant option that is on protocol.

If you want to stay on protocol, there is almost always a way to make it happen.

Thanks Leez, sounds like a plan! I really don't want to talk to these ladies about hcg, at least not in that setting--I don't want to talk about diets at all with them, so really trying to keep it less obvious. I won't go crazy, obviously no pasta, but thinking maybe a baked fish of some kind and small salad. Don't think that would draw attention. Thanks again. I will try and not eat much in the day, but I don't think I will be able to go all day without eating anything. Unless you think that would be helpful

I think the best plan would be to eat like you would any normal P2 day and then have your dinner as you like.

I think its a bad plan to restrict your eating the first part of the day. That will send you into the meal with a deficit and could make it hard for you to stick to your intentions. Remember that the protocol is not about calories in/calories out. Your body will recover from a one time off-protocol meal. It may take a couple days to get back on a losing track, but it will happen, and its not going to affect your ending number in a significant way.

What I have found that works for situations where I don't want to talk about the protocol is (and only if the subject comes up)to say that I'm doing an elimination diet for a few weeks, so I'm pretty restricted. Most people are familiar with those. I've never had anyone inquire further after that statement.

Hi again, Leez and many thanks for answering this question about supplementation. I'll go through them all and decide what to do. Alright, now to make my final shopping list, buy some Neutrogena soap and decide on what day to start P1. I'll be in touch.

When I've had to dine at a restaurant due to a special social event during P2, I would just have coffee at home for breakfast, an apple at lunch, and then would order a normal small restaurant-sized portion (usually 6oz.) of protein such as small sirloin steak or grilled chicken breast with a dry salad, and drink lots of Perrier or San Pellegrino sparkling water while celebrating. I remember the couple of times I did this, I still lost .8-1 lb the next day.

Thanks SDWIS. I may try this, having a large apple for lunch. And then my dinner. I'm not expecting a loss, you said you drank water, I will have at least 1 glass of wine, but would love to keep damage to a minimum.

Dubbles, when I went to a restaurant in P2 I ordered plain grilled chicken, no seasonings cooked with no fats and a side salad with just lettuce. I took my own P2 compliant vinegar/mustard dressing. Or you could just ask for a side of vinegar or lemons to squeeze on the salad.

The problem with restaurant meats is that they are generally marinated in something before cooking, especially chicken. They won't tell you that up front. You have to ask. Its possible the marinade is just a simple salt brine, but a lot of them contain sugar and other P2 contrabands.

Because of all the marinating, the safest thing you can order is a shrimp cocktail. Grammy's recommendation is to choose some kind of seafood, because even if there is a little fat added there, it would be less than red meat or chicken.

That's what I think I'm going to order, Leez. Some baked fish. I like shrimp, but when I fix it, I grill it on GF grill, don't love shrimp cocktail. We just had talipia for dinner (Geo Forman grill style, grilled onions on top of the fish), and I told my husband, we are going to start growing gills as I fix fish so much anymore, but I have really grown to like in--on or off P2. So I'm going for fish, and either salad or veggie. Just not having the bread is quite a test for me as I love bread when eating out. Haven't had regular bread in forever (except for the bun on a 5 Guys burger on trip).

Thanks everyone for suggestions, I appreciate them. I'm afraid, tho, I may not be quite as motivated to stay as strictly to protocol as some of you have when eating in restaurant. I'm not going crazy, but may choose to have some salad dressing that many of you would not, and a full glass of wine. This would be only off protocol meal of mine so far this round, so I'll hope that not too much damage is done.
