    Good morning all!
Leez, you called it, my steak day was for naught. The scale tricked me! I got batteries for old faithful and this morning weighed on both and there is a half pound difference. So I'm happily humming along in my window and not going to sweat it.
Lobster sounds divine, Linda! Trader Joes has a good sale on now, I'm going to pick some up after work. Go get your money!
I've been saving my chocolate for P4, I have been making my own with organic cocoa, MCT oil, flavored stevia and adding in nuts or organic peanut butter. I wish I could figure out a way to make sugar free caramel. That's my kryptonite. Clearly I have too much free time...

    Have the best day everyone!

    Hi Tracy,

Werther's has sugar free caramel, I like the Chewy version best. However: they are not low carb.

Glad to hear it was TESS lying to you!

I think I'm doing a high protein day today but I don't wanna but I'm 1 lb over my window. I ate a chiles rellenos last night and it was said to be gluten free. It may have been sugar in the tomato sauce or perhaps I'm sensitive to tomatoes and cheese together? Is that a thing? Anyone? Please chime in! If it is, then that would explain my zuchinni lasagna fiasco of 2018. It was all over the news

everything else I ate yesterday was already cleared. Still though, I'm thinking this since this is such a rocky P3, I will most likely stay in it for a few extra weeks to find some balance.

Linda, kitties are in the tub with their ping pong ball as we speak! Hope your travels and work are going well.

Lynne, have you started P4 yet? I'm trying to hunt down a recipe to make my own sugar free caramel if that exists.

    Happy hump day!

    Good morning Tracy,

Yes, I am in P4; but up 1 lb so I may be doing a CTCD later this week if I gain any more.

I haven't found a sugar free caramel recipe yet. Making caramel isn't easy: I have seen recipes where you take a can of condensed milk, unopened, and cook it in a water bath to caramelize the sugars. But all the recipes I have found have sugar.

I make caramel sauce by heating a little heavy cream and melting Werther's Chewy Caramels into it. When I want to add ribbons of the sauce to ice cream, I stir in a couple of tablespoons of vodka to prevent it freezing solid. I've also made caramel ice cream - used LorAnn Oils Caramel Flavor (bought on Amazon) - delicious!

I suggest getting that, and heat heavy cream, sweetener, salt, the Caramel flavor, vegetable glycerin, and guar gum (at the very end, to thicken). You can get the glycerin and guar gum on Amazon or iHerb.

Lots of people seem to be sensitive to tomatoes, I just have to watch quantities since they do have carbs. Any meal that I have more than 10 - 15 g carbs is potential trouble for me, I have to ensure I get enough fats to slow the hit to my BS.

I tried the cats / balls / bath tub: the toys were too small so they just picked them up and ran. I'll look for ping pong balls, I bet they can't carry those!

    Another gloomy day . . . Michigan in December . . .

    Thanks for the recipe idea!
I think the culprit could be cooked tomatoes. I never see a gain from eating fresh tomatoes on my salad. Again, there could have been some sugar in the sauce but all told, it was maybe a quarter cup of sauce total and I only ate one.

    Hello Lovelies!

Back from my travels. So exhausting... Food out was great and I had plenty of leftovers to bring home to feed DH and I for another dinner. My friend made baked yam especially for me, so I ate about 1/4 of it and hoping no ill effects. We shall see what TESS says tomorrow.

Tracy - I almost asked you about tomato sauce after the lasagna gain. I'll bet there IS some sugar in it and/or you're sensitive to whatever happens when the tomatoes are cooked. I used to be able to eat the toppings off of a pizza, including the sauce. Of course, I now know that you can't know what the chef has added to the sauce, besides, the last time I tried that (toppings off two slices), my tummy was NOT very happy with me. TMI.

Lynne - The ping pong balls are too big for a cat to pick up and they are much livelier than typical cat toys. Plus if they do roll over by the drain, they aren't going to fall in so far that the cat can't get them out.

Hope all the correction days go well. I may be right there with you (hope not), but there is a possibility.

Have a great rest of your week everyone!

Welcome back Linda! Are you already in P4? Tell us how your yam experiment went. That's my fav food to try in P4 but I would have trouble limiting it to a 1/4 serving. I always admire your discipline!

Yes, I think it's partly the tomato sauce, thinking back to my PI, I dumped a half jar of Ragu in with the diced tomatoes. I can only blame myself, I do get cavalier in P3 sometimes.

AFM, I am on a roller coaster ride with this P3. I was barely back in LIW window yesterday after a high protein day and today I'm 3lbs over. I have to think carefully how to navigate this because I'm a year out from trying the protocol again. I am positive it's because I started R5 too soon. I should have waited at least until Jan to start again. Probably experienced immunity in P2 and this is messing up my ability to stabilize. Cautionary tale folks! The waiting period is real. I have 11 days of P3 left. And then back to exercising. That helped me keep my weight stable before.
Any suggestions on how to get some control is welcome. The only food I've introduced is dairy and the occasional nuts (and whiskey ). I tried eggs but learned they don't like me, so they are off the menu for a while.

Staff holiday party today and there is very little I will eat. Lots of starches, sauces, sugars in the catered menu. We were invited to bring a dish to share, so I made creamed onions and mashed cauliflower. I can round that out with turkey and asparagus. Let's hope the turkey wasn't brined with sugar. That's a thing! We are doomed!

Big shout out for Friday, kids!!!

    Hi Tracy,

What is your regular way of eating? That would help is make suggestions to help navigate P3 /P4.

With similar issues last year after R4, I concluded that I had not waited long enough between rounds. I had a vacation weight gain of 3 or 4 lbs, which took 3 weeks to lose. I did the Atkins "fat fast" three weekends in a row - for 2 days, I limited my carbs as close to zero as I could; ate several small, high fat "feedings" of roughly 250 cals each, totalling 1000 to 1100 cals per day.

After that, I maintained fairly well, but I stopped weighing myself daily. In October - November, I did R5 and got to my goal weight. I am up a bit today but I am confident adjustment of my targets will fix that.

Good luck with that holiday party!

    Lynne

I hope you both keep posting as you go through your P3 & 4s. It will give us a better idea of what happens in the aftermath when you have reached immunity. We know that people who do a round using fake drops will inevitably regain at frightening rates. But the immunity thing is rarer, and we don't have a lot of data on the pitfalls. The trails you blaze may serve later as a roadmap ( or a terrible warning...) to others that walk that way. Maybe I'll be re-titling this topic as "Overcoming Immunity" in the future.

I truly believe that if you keep your body well-fed nutritionally, you have the best chance to succeed. Now, the way we choose to do that can be very different from person to person. I have noticed for myself that as I consistently pay attention to eating well every 3-4 hours, I have become satisfied with smaller portions overall. I think that is because after a time, your body is getting the nutrients it needs and is no longer going to prod you to eat too much with cravings, periods of low energy that invite snacking, or roller-coaster blood sugars.

In P3 we want to be keeping up with the revved up metabolism that we have coming out of P2. P4 is trickier. Its about finding our individual balance not just in food choices but quantities.

Tracy, cooked tomatos are a fairly common problem. It might simply be the acidity that is the problem. But tomatoes are a nightshade, so other nightshades might cause issues for you as you go forward. Something to watch for.

Liquid B Vitamins - be careful

So this morning, without thinking, I swallowed the last bit of Liquid Vitamin B in the bottle and had a nasty reaction. I didn't measure the quantity, and I didn't keep it under my tongue, I just swallowed it.

I first noticed my skin tingling at my neck, then facial redness, then all over my body. I felt overheated, like a major hot flash.

I immediately realized it was an overdose. I drank 3 or 4 glasses of water and took 4 activated charcoal capsules.

That must have helped - after about 45 minutes, the redness went away, but I felt very cold, like a fever. After about 30 minutes, I warmed back up and now feel normal.

Just wanted to post this so you don't make the same mistake!

If it was a B complex, it sounds like you may have had a niacin flush.

Wow Lynne - glad you had those charcoal capsules on hand! That sounds very scary! Good information about the Fat Fast too. I have it downloaded as a PDF, but have never resorted to it to drop extra pounds. Sounds more doable than the CTCD for me.

Tracy - P3D11 when the yam incident occurred. It was a small portion and I countered the starch with sour cream and butter I always feel like I am rolling the dice when I am not in control of preparing my own food. The lobster and garlic shrimp were very good and I held back on the mashed potatoes and biscuits and brought those home to DH. I was not so good about saying no to the wine, but it is what it is.

So, 134.8 this morning. No major damage after a few days off the ranch. Still working on leftovers, but if I'm not down a little by tomorrow, I'll do another SD or (shudder) a chicken thigh day. I was really pleased that I'm still below 135.

I bought some artichokes at Costco on my way home and am suddenly realizing I shouldn't eat them until next weekend when P4 officially starts I'm sure they'll keep, not sure about me, so I'd better put them in the garage for now.

All this talk about immunity... I hope you two keep us posted as well. I decided I'm sticking with hhcg because I want the comfort of being able to do a round when I need it and not worry about immunity.

Also, I think I will be unpacking my immersion blender this weekend and am thinking about making my own mayonnaise. My mom used to do it all the time. I'm just wondering what kind of oil to use. I only have some garlic roasted olive oil on hand, but I'm thinking that might be too strong. Any of you have a favorite recipe that doesn't involve any of those "heart healthy" vegetable, corn or soy bean oils?

Have a great Friday and weekend all. Stay warm and dry!
