My Experience with HCG Diet - Nearing end of Phase 2

Some background. I have never done an extreme diet in the past, I mainly would just eat cleaner and workout like crazy for a few months, drop 20ish lbs, then give up and gain it all back (and sometimes more). This has been me in a nutshell for the past 10 years. My highest weight being 270 and my lowest being 201. I have been yo-yoing between those numbers for a long time and it has left me in an unsatisfied, unhealthy state. I recognize I have addictive tendencies with food AND with exercise that I need to be careful with. My wife had our third (covid suprise) child last May and it kinda sent us both into a tailspin. The unexpected 3rd baby in our mid-late 30's was not planned and we were already transitioned into a new way of living with our older children (6 and 9). Add Covid situation & sudden death of my MIL to the mix and we both were stressed out. grieving mess and gaining weight. My blood pressure was through the roof. My snoring was out of control. I was having constant headaches, dizzy spells. Sore back, legs, knees, feet, you name it. We decided after Christmas we would both do something totally different, something drastic, so we agreed to fork over $2K (I live in Canada in a small rural town where everything is expensive, didn't know we could get HCG online, we didn't do our homework LOL) for this diet. Suffice to say, this was the best decision I have ever made for myself.

I am on my 20 VLCD and I have dropped from 268.0 to 233.4.

Other Changes: My blood pressure is optimal, I no longer snore (I sleep through the night again!), I have not had a headache or dizzy spell in 20 days. I have broken my addictions to sugar, aspartame, splenda, refined carbs. I have learnt a whole new way to eat and be accountable for what I put in my body. I drink at least 4 litres of water a day (I am religious about this) and I have not felt this great in YEARS. In week 2 of P2 I converted my standing desk to a treadmill desk and now I walk at least 3 hrs a day at work. I follow this up with a 30 mins walk with my wife after work when we can.

I know I am supposed to stop at 40 days or when I hit 40lbs loss, but I might go over that. Not ready to stop losing.

Talk about a major health improvement...wow.

Apartame and Splenda are poisons. Aspartame is a neurotoxin and headaches are a common reaction. Splenda disrupts the gut biome, and as science progresses, it is becoming more and more clear that the health of our gut biome is critical to overall well-being. You are well rid of both of them. If you can continue to stay away from them and the refined carbs, you will be doing your body a big favor.

There are more natural sweetener options that don't have those downsides. Stevia, and sugar alcohols are produced from foods and are better choices. Allulose is a newcomer on the food-based sweetener front that you might want to explore. It is the most like sugar, and even caramelizes like sugar. It depends on what you can tolerate. Some people have reactions to stevia like headaches or low blood sugar. Especially if they already have a ragweed allergy. Sugar alchohols can cause gastric distress in some. But on the whole, neither is detrimental like the chemical sweeteners.

Congrats on the new baby. Babies are a blessing no matter how they get here.

Thank you very much. Yes - so happy to be finally done with aspartame and splenda I have abused them for YEARS and always knew it was not good to be eating/drinking them. I will never go back!

I have tried erythritol in the past, has a cooling sensation that is a bit off putting, but I can deal with that.

    Thanks again for the response.

You can sometimes mitigate that cooling sensation by mixing several different sweeteners. My current favorite is a mix of stevia and birch xylitol which I blend together myself in a coffee grinder. But that only works because I finally found a stevia brand that tastes good to me, after trying many. I can make the blend is as sweet as I want it, no aftertaste, and no cooling. You just have to keep trying things until you find something that works for you. Everyone's sweet perception can be different to the same product.

You can often get the sweetness closer to sugar taste by balancing it with a bit of mineral salt.

I use Allulose for cooking, but when I want a bit of sweetness in tea or coffee, I use cyclamate. It's still available in Europe and Canada. I buy it as Natreen Classic tablets in a dispenser, on Ebay. It's the best tasting artificial sweetener IMO.

. Never thought so. But container says erythitol,
Stevia (leaf extract, natural flavors). The Paranthesis is following stevia to say the nature of stevia so do not think it is filler

Truvia is just stevia and erythritol. There are no filers listed. However it is created from chemically altered forms of those substances because manufacturers have to change the food ingredients somehow in order to patent the product. The natural flavor can be pretty much anything that creates a flavor. Usually a company will tell you what the natural flavors are if you email them, but they don't print it publicly.
