Good luck on your tennis tonite! Hope it is a good evening!
I always feel a little guilty that as man, my rates of loss are more than women, especially my wife. I think my losses, especially compared to other men who have done the protocol are pretty pedestrian. Not complaining because I am happy with the results.
Yes, the protocol can be taxing, especially P2. I love the physical results as well as the mental and the journey is special, but it can wear on you and nobody would ever call it easy. The easy part is gaining the weight.
And Dubbles, you are absolutely correct. Most of the time, it is not real hunger that gets under our collective skin. It is the absence of certain foods we have enjoyed or become addicted to. Eating habits too (snacking in front of the tv when not even hungry). The more times we go through this protocol, we either learn to overcome these habits, or we resent the protocol because it keeps us from those things that for some reason we define as so important.
Just got through my lunch, or at least part of it. Had a very small chunk of smoked salmon I made last weekend. Also have some seared tuna in case I need it but looks like I am not. Feeling satisfied. Still going to have a salad but might hold off for a bit. Being in touch with hunger signals is a good thing and it is satisfying to eat less as opposed to overeating mindlessly (yes that can still be done on P2). My wife skipped dinner altogether last night. No, that is not a good idea but that is her doing her and I was not home to cook. She was doing great this morning so all is well.
Tennis tonight. I am playing singles. Against a strong, young player most likely. No high hopes on winning but I do want to play well. Playing matches when I am not expected to win are really fun because I play without any sort of pressure and normally perform well. Depending on which court I play on, I might have a decent crowd of teammates watching my match and that can be very fun. have two smallish chunks of smoked salmon which I will bring along for dinner. More than I need so I will eat to satisfaction and possibly add a little more just to make sure I have the fuel I need for the match. Well I won't but will try to have reasonable caloric stockpile.
I only count VLCD days while doing HHCG. I do not count loading days, nor transition days.
Loading days: May 1,2
First day of VLCD: May 3
Last dose day: Either May 16 or 17
so including load and transition days I am looking at 19 total.
Good luck with your short round, JGD. For follow up rounds I think they are a really good idea.
Today down to 211.6. I am not sure if I will get below 210 by the time my round ends, but I am pretty confident that my LDW will begin with a 210 in it. My original plan was to make Monday my last dose day. That still might happen but all depends on the Monday morning weigh in. I weigh when I get out of bed after I empty my bladder. So if my weight goes down Monday morning, I will record that weight as my LDW and continue doses that day and begin the 48 hour transition period from 4:45-5pm Monday making my first P3 meal Wednesday evening. That would be 15 days of VLCD. But here is the thing. My weight is just as likely to go up a bit on Monday morning than down so if my weight is stable or slightly up, I will record Sunday's weight as LDW and not take any HHCG that day and first P3 meal would be Tuesday evening. It all comes down to Monday's weigh in.
More fun stats. Yesterday was my 11th day of VLCD. After today's weigh in, I was 12.6lbs down from pre-load weight. In previous rounds, I was 10.6,11,11,10.2 and 13.8 at the same point of the diet. The 13.8 was my very first round where I had much more weight to lose so higher numbers should be expected. I am doing very well in this round. The last week, it really hasn't felt that way. I weighed in at 215 last Friday and have been grinding this week with slow and low losses, seemingly. But I am still ahead of previous follow up rounds. My wife is on a good pace too. She is down 10lbs and change compared to pre-load weight. That is excellent and easily her best pace. She had a cheat day of sorts yesterday and was only up .3lbs today.
Tennis: Really had an enjoyable match last night against an extremely fit younger opponent. Yes, I lost, but played very well. We had some awesome long rallies and I hung in there very well. There are not a lot of 54 year olds out there that can cover the court as well as I did with or without low calories. I am still struggling a bit to finish points at the net but am amazed at my fitness level on the court. Really enjoying the lighter weight on court. It is going to be a fun summer on the court for sure.
Looking ahead: kind of a busy weekend. Lots of errands with the wire. Will grill some shrimp tonight and we will carry it along tomorrow for lunch. Hopefully have crawfish for dinner. Have a singles tennis match scheduled Sunday morning but weather looks iffy. League match Monday night, but once again, weather could be an issue.
Phase 3 in sight. Not really a big deal but a steak and a glass of wine would be welcome but I am not exactly jonesing for that.
To be continued.............
Very good results, indeed, Jeff! I'm sure losing the weight makes you lighter on your feet. But I can understand how during the process on vlc days, energy levels could be challenged. Good luck with losses this weekend! To both you and your wife. I'll be ecstatic to lose 10-12 lbs over the 2 week round. Loading today. I want to make sure I have this correct--you count weight loss from where you start, before loading, right? I'm thinking of your wife's losses, she has lost 10 and change, from where she started? Not including load day weight -that is confusing part. I'd love to lose 10 lb from the weight I am this morning--which is .6 above my last dose weight at start of planned interruption. Everyone is different I know, but that's a goal for me nonetheless.
I remember when you started this brief round, you mentioned wanting to be at 210 at finish, or below. I seriously didn't know if that would happen, but geez, it looks like it is happening! Good for you. I started on pellets this morning, took 3. It took forever (it seemed) for them to dissolve. Brief question, some of the pellets are teeny tiny. When you pour out the three pellets, if one is very small, do you all take an extra pellet? Thanks, have a great weekend. I think it is so awesome that you do this together. Such support!
Good luck on your round, Dubbles. For the most part I try to pick the larger pellets, but feel if I do the smaller one make sure it is combined with 2 larger ones. Not sure there is a huge difference. I let them sit under my tongue for a minute or two, then chew them up a bit with my front teeth, then put the crushed material back under my tongue. Takes way too long to dissolve all the way so I never do that.
Thanks Jeff. The round I’m thinking of doing in June will likely be 7-10:days...we’ll see...
7-10 days would be fine I am sure. Really interested to see how you do
Saturday morning update.
210.6
I did weigh an hour later than usual but will take that number and run.
210.9 this morning. Stayed within calories but two issues. First off was in the car all day on a quick trip to San Antonio and back. Really didn’t drink much during the day, was dehydrated and drank a bunch of water late trying to catch up. Was really bloated last night and am still feeling it today. Also had a small filet mignon for dinner last night. First steak of this round. And only. I have had some decent losses in the past.
Either way, I am done. Physically I have been fairly hungry. Mentally my mind isn’t 100% in the game but I would hardly say I am having a negative time. If anything I am just too close in time to my last round and it is time to move on. Plus I don’t want to spend the next couple days on protocol chasing yesterday’s weight. It is likely I gain tomorrow too since Monday gains are common in this stage of the protocol.
I have a good chance in getting below 210 in transition and can very possibly keep it there or at least just above during P3 if all goes well.
This has been a very beneficial round so far. I have not seen this weight in about 23 years.
A good friend came back with a bunch of black fin tuna steaks from a successful fishing trip and is giving me a bag today. So that will be dinner. Tomorrow nights meal is the first P3 meal. Need to plan P3 menus for the week
Good luck in P3. I love P3 meal planning and find it key to a successful P3.
Good for you Jeff! Very good weigh in--you got in the 210 area you were working for, SO SUCCESSFUL! Being in the game mentally is a big deal, and since this was sort of a afterthought to go back to p2 so quickly, I get the mental challenge. I'm kinda going thru the same thing right now. Today is my first p2 day, after my planned interruption, and I find I keep thinking P3 protocol! I'm craving a wedge salad, but no go on P2! Not if I can't have salad dressing to top it off! So much easier to live on P3, but I can do this for 14 days. 3/4 of first day over with almost. So after all things considered, do you think a short 2 week round is viable as a tool for maintenance? Guess jury still out on that, will depend on stablization, I'm thinking. Has your wife mentioned how much weight she lost over the 2 week round? The tuna steaks sound delish! Enjoy! Hi JGD!
