new guy here - starting over on a new journey

I spent the last couple of days reading through a lot of posts and thought I would put my two cents in. This is a very good website full of very good and helpful information. It is sad to see the men's forum dry up, but that is the way it goes. I would be very interested to see how the men who were posting often from 2011 are doing today and what their attitudes are towards this diet. I might share more on that on a future thread, but for now, here is my story:

I started the HCG diet this past weekend after a 11 year break from the diet. I was 40 years old when i first tried the protocol. That was in 2008. At that time, you had to order HCG from an overseas pharmacy and hope it didn't get intercepted in route. My wife and I as well as a couple good friends did the diet at the same time. We had a recipe for under the tongue drops. I don't remember exactly what was mixed in, because my wife took care of it. We took one dose in the morning and that was to last the entire day. I did two rounds that year. Lost 30 pounds in the first round and 20 the second. Beginning weight was around 270 and ended up at 220. It really was difficult because I was hungry a lot. The hunger was mental as much as physical. In phase 3 the first time, I was very strict to the no carb thing and really locked he weight loss in. I took up a healthy lifestyle after that and started playing a ton of tennis.

11 years later and the weight has slowly crept back. For the most part, my weight has been stable between 245 and 255, but the last half year it has jumped up over 260. I am still playing tennis a lot but really feel the extra weight on the court. I am actually in good physical shape, can run for hours, but need to be lighter. I have tried keto, and many other diets, but they only work in small spurts and one lapse in discipline erases the losses. But overall, it is my eating habits that have worsened over the 11 years, to the point in where I am eating way more unhealthy than healthy these days.

I made the decision a couple of weeks ago to try the HCG diet. Not only to lose weight, but more importantly to hit the reset button in my body in how I eat and process foods. So here I am.

A lot has changed since 2008. I did some web searches and found HHCG. I followed the reviews and chose Triumph drops.

Load day was last Saturday. stepped on the scale with 262lbs. Second morning of loading saw a jump to 266lbs (heavy loading + lots of beer). Played 3 hours of tennis the second load day which led to a drop yesterday morning to 263.8 on the morning weigh in. today, I was at 260.4 so I am already below my first day's weight so I am officially losing weight.

Loading: let me say this about that: I know they say that loading is important because it fills your body with the fat needed so the first few days are no so difficult. I don't see it that way. I strongly feel the load days mentally turn you off to all of that food and really make you want to eat clean. At least, that is how it worked for me. with the HCG in my system, eating all of that bad food was not pleasant. But the mental part is just as important as the physical in this protocol, so I am all in.

My plan: I plan on doing 23 days of the protocol with 48 hours to allow the HCG to leave my system before starting on phase 3. I hope to lose anywhere between 25-30 pounds. Depending on how things go, I might do another round, but right now, I am only going to focus on this round.

I will be checking in every couple of days of so. For now, I will be following the protocol and looking forward to jumping on the scale every morning.

Meals: sticking to the protocol. Chicken breast, Cod, shrimp, buffalo and lean beef. I will keep the recipes simple at first. As I get into the diet, i will get more creative with the recipes in terms of spice and flavor.

Activity: I will continue to play tennis, but will focus more on doubles and will not play as often. That is the plan. If I am not feeling up to it, I might not play much at all. That is one of the great things about this diet. you can rest and you are still losing weight. No guilt about taking a day off from the workout.

Good luck on your current round, and thanks for sharing your story. Some men do pop in here and there. You might get a bit of guy action.

If you find this time that you are facing hunger issues, please ask for help. We can help you adjust your dose so that the hunger abates and you can sail through comfortably.

There does seems to be a "low representation of men" on this forum. I think there are quite a few, but they just don't "fess up" and talk about it. They gather information from all of our experiences, then silently lose and disappear.

    Today's ramblings:

Down another 3 pounds. 257 this morning. Cool.

Feeling fine. No hunger, but I am starting to feel the lack of calories. My wife is not on the diet so she is eating regular foods even though she promised to eat the same foods I am eating (just more of it). Last night she had leftover pizza (from load day). Didn't bother me as I was not hungry. I do not have a sweet tooth, but when I am on a low carb diet (keto, not protocol), I usually crave something sweet (a spoon of natural peanut butter does the trick). Hasn't happened yet. When it does, I might try he cocoa crack thing, but am in no rush for that.

Really made some horrible foods Sunday for meal prep. Made a spicy cabbage soup with ground bison. Nasty. Found a recipe

I do have a weird sense of smell. All of the food on the diet smells "off". My wive's pizza smelled just fine. I am not going to worry about it, but it might be possible I might be developing a food aversion.

Speaking of food aversion, it might be due to some truly horrible meals I prepped Sunday for the first week of VLCD. I made a spicy cabbage soup with ground bison. Nasty. I really don't care for cabbage unless it is in cole slaw or fish tacos. Or chinese food. I will make a no sugar/no oil cole slaw soon. Also, I found a recipe for mock shake and bake. Sounded interesting. Was nasty as hell. Started over last night. baked some cod with steamed asparagus. Much better. Also fired up the kamado grill last night and carmalized some vinegar onions to go with some spicy grilled chicken for the next couple of meals. There is a limit to how much chicken breast I can eat so I will have to be careful here. I do plan to go heavy on seafood. Cod, Argeninian red shrimp, gulf shrimp, and lobster will be heavy in the rotation. Burger patty on the grill and the ocasional steak for treats. My mom usually gets venison from my deer hunting cousin, so I will raid her freezer to make some venison chili.

I had trouble sleeping Monday night. My mind was racing. Last night, I slept soundly with no problems. Headache yesterday morning, very slight one this morning. I can feel my body is detoxing. I know the drill.

Settling in. Long way to go.

I found in my rounds that I enjoyed plain grilled or simply spiced foods more than elaborate recipes. I think part of that was that I made the effort to cook everything fresh (mostly on the foreman grill). Fresh makes a difference. I also kept my salads to chop style: either grape tomatos or cucumbers dressed with vinegar, S&P, and fresh cilantro. Eating a P2 lettuce salad is just sad to me. You gradually find your way to enjoying the menu as you go. Sounds like you are working through the process of elimination just fine.

And congrats on a 3 pound loss. Gotta love those first week losses.

Yeah, I have been there. I did the lettuce salad a great deal in my previous rounds. Not sure I can do that again. I will probably roll with some pico de gallo even though it is a bit rogue. Also, some grape tomatoes with fresh tarragon and rice wine vinegar doesn't sound too bad. cucumbers with fresh dill and some vinegar would work too.

255.4 this morning. The weekend's loading is a distant memory: hungry last night. Physically feeling empty, mentally wanting to eat something (if that makes sense). That is just part of the deal. Feel good this morning.

Also, I am drinking apple cider vinegar with water in the morning. Supposed to play tennis tonight weather permitting.

The results are addicting. the morning weigh in is like Christmas morning, every day. Next week, will start trying on some pants that were getting tight the last couple of months.

I totally agree - I can't wait to weigh myself in the mornings, it really MAKES MY DAY to see the numbers dropping on a daily basis, especially since I've never stalled, and only go up if i have too much salt!!!!

up .2lbs this morning, so for all intents and purposes, basically a level day. 7 pounds in 3 days is a good drop so a levelling off of sorts isn't a surprise. No BM since tuesday so that could be a factor too. hitting the laxative today. Only thing different yesterday was sugar free gum. Went a little crazy on it. Each stick has 2 grams of carbs. Not sure if that had an effect. Also, had the same meal for lunch and dinner. Grilled chicken and balsamic vinegar onions. There is a bit of sugar in balsamic (white) so will have to watch that.

In the past, my level days were always followed by a solid drop of 2lbs or so.

No hunger at all yesterday. The previous day's hunger was most likely related to waiting too long to have my evening dose of HCG and dinner.

I love Trident Sugar-Free Cinnamon and Citrus Orange gums, and have to make sure I have none around when I'm in P2, because it did cause me to not lose much in P2 rounds before. A few weeks ago during my Planned Interruption, I went wild chewing it though. On my vacation, I found flavors that they don't sell here in the US , and was literally "as happy as a kid in a candy store"!!
