How does it keep my water levels low? I am asking as I do not understand, I am drinking as much or more water than I was on HCG.....

A thought as you progress: Keep in mind that keto eating keeps your body water levels artificially low. So if you decided to indulge in a greater carb ratio at some point, there will be a weight spike related to the additional water the body needs to process carbs. That is not weight gain--its just a water level issue. Once you are back on keto, that water will be eliminated again.

Simply put, protein and fats take less water to process than carbs. So when you eat a bunch of starchy carbs (potatos, grains, bread, pasta, etc.) your body retains more water to process the carbs. It can show up on the scale as multiple pounds. That big gain can cause a major freak out.

You can drink the same amount of water on a keto day and a starch day, but your body will excrete more of the water you drink on the keto day.

It's helpful to understand this process, so you don't get trapped in scale jail thinking you can never eat a starchy carb again.

Congratulations on a successful P3. Now, on to P4...

Do you plan to stay on keto for the time being or are you planning to add more carbs?

For the time being I am going to stay on Keto.. it is working for me, as long as I can continue to maintain I will stay on it. If that changes I will try something else.....

Newcomer, like super new, but also super excited. Saturday was my first day on the VLCD and I have dropped 6.4 pounds in four days. I have been feeling slightly hungry, but I think my body is adjusting and I am feeling less hungry and more empty, if that makes sense. Interestingly this diet so far has really made me re-evaluate my relationship with food. For example, in the past I've often equated that empty feeling with hunger.

A little hunger is normal the first week. It sounds like you are doing great.

Good observation about hunger. In P3 it is important to know your hunger signals to help you navigate the stabilization period where quantities are unlimited.
