Thread: WilsonBlack's Phase 3 thread

Today's scale: 217.4lbs. Just up from yesterday's low weight.

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links
Lunch: 10 chicken wings, salad with avocado
    Dinner: boiled crawfish
Played tennis. Was hungry yesterday. Chicken wings were from Buffalo Wild Wings. Their wings are smaller than Pluckers, but not by too much. Honestly probably ate a little more than I needed. Same goes for dinner. Starting to feel that my mindset is changing a bit and need reign it in. Starting to want more food. Need to slow back down. This feels like the time where I can easily slide back into past mentalities of wanting to overeat. Phase 2 is a distant memory at this point and Phase 3 eating is the norm. Vigilance is warranted here. Make sure I am listening to myself. Problem with that is that for the most part I am hungry. I think for the most part I have been on the line of just right amount and not enough food.

This point in past rounds: I always look back to last January's round as the gold standard for success on this diet. I got as low as 214 but finished with a LDW of 215. I really wanted to beat that number on this round but just didn't get there. My measurements were practically the same and I felt great. But the thing I always disregard about that round was that as soon as I got to P3, the weight shot up immediately to 219 and slowly crept up from there. So at this point I am far ahead of that round and am in a great place. I am attacking this phase as if I am still on the diet. Need to stay in that mental mode.

Travelling this weekend so that will be tested. Will focus on hunger/satisfaction and portion sizes.

Love the thoughtful perspective and putting this round in context for yourself. It does seem this can be a defining moment in the process, and discernment is key. What is real physiological hunger and what is that old habitual hunger of just wanting more food to extend the pleasure of it? Sometimes it's really hard to tell. Our mind plays tricks, especially when we're still committed to a mentality that's feast or famine, diet or not-on-a diet.

That's just to say what you wrote completely resonates with me. I feel like I'm in a similar moment on my own journey--and I'd really like a different long-term outcome than similar moments past. I'm also considering the difference between lowest achievable weight and lowest maintainable weight. Time will tell, but being vigilant against the slippery slope of allowing that number to just keep increasing is also something I have in mind. But how to do so without being in that obsessive dieting mentality? That's something I aim to discover.

Best of luck this weekend finding the balance of enjoyment and self care. I hope it's a fun visit with your son!

Have a great weekend! Hopefully will be able to stay focused on great P3 food.

Update. Off from work this week. Extremely busy doing a yard project. Staying on task with diet. Maybe eating a little more but way more mindful.

Played tennis Tuesday night. Snacked a bit on some cheese and olives when I got home. Was hungry. Also had 2.5 glasses of wine. Wednesday weight jumped to 222. Wasn’t going to do a steak day because I would be working hard in the yard all day. Smoked a rack of ribs for lunch. Had 3 and nothing else until dinner. Wife and I split a NY strip steak from the grill. Avocado on the side. Couple glasses of wine. Still enough steak leftover for another full serving. In the past I would have wiped the whole steak out myself. Down to 219.4 this morning.

Crawfish for lunch, a couple leftover ribs for dinner then I am playing tennis. I expect it likely I jump back over 220 tomorrow but not going to do a correction day if that happens. I know I am eating correctly and am not going to freak out about what the scale says. I am feeling extra bloated and puffy from all the inflammation from hard shovel work and tennis so know I am carrying a lot of water right now. As long as I eat sensibly no reason to fret.

Good to hear from you WB, sounds like you are busy, busy. And sounds like you pretty much did a high protein day, which resulted in a reasonable drop. Good for you. I don't think I want to do steak days either. Would much rather do the almost all protein days. Working out in the yard is very labor intensive, I'd just suggest you pay attention to drinking lots of water throughout the day. Sometimes we get busy and forget that. Keep it up, sounds like you are doing a good job.

Dang, you are living the life! Ribs means guests and/or summer to me but my mind is blown. I am going to make me some in P3. I even have the rub and BBQ sauce P3 compliant. I actually make them in the Instant Pot. Revolutionary. And so quick!

I like your wisdom about eating well and not fretting!

I have a pellet grill that makes the best ribs. Pretty much automatic perfect every time. 1 rack lasted about 4.5 meals for us. My line of thinking is to eat what I want protein wise but just make sure I keep the portions on the small side.

Dubbles: Yeah I was drinking what a I thought was enough water but not nearly enough. Got a little dehydrated later in the day but was able to catch up. I am done with the hard labor. My dead palm tree is removed as are a couple others. New beds are cleared, prepped and plants procured and in the earth. A crew arrives tomorrow to put down a pallet of new sod in my backyard and mulch my new beds. They look great now. A nice row of Italian Cypress on one side and a row of Texas sage on the other flanked by large rocks, society garlic and purple fountain grass.
