Thread: .5 Cc in a 3ml Syringe ???

  1. #13
your right 200iu would be correct for subq in thigh, I got confused and thought it was IM due to size of 3ml needle.

  2. #14
Oh good I was afraid that for some reason the needles were (1) too small or (2) that the actual markings were "units" not ml or cc

ok, it's getting clearer. However, if I have a 5000 ampule and I am adding 5cc of liquid, and am giving myself 1/2 cc a day, won't I only have enough for 10 injections? Is .5 cc the same as 125 ius? I thought a 5000 at 125 was for 23 days. Is this so confusing for everyone?

5000 iu divided by 5 cc is 1000 iu per cc. So if you take 1/2 a cc, that is 500 iu, which is way way too much.

If you want 200 iu of that mixture, you would take .2 cc, not .5. to get 125 iu, you would take a very difficult to measure .125 cc. Have you mixed it this way already?

okay- there are two different conversations going on here-

I'm going to post Scott's sister's mixing instructions- I find them to be the least confusing to me anyway-

Here ya go....copied the post for you,

You've got a vial with some amount of hcg in it. Say 5,000 IUs. Make the diluting easy, and mix it with 10 ml of bac water. Or 20. Or 5. Just some rational number. Then you divide the IUs in the vial by the ml of bac water you used.

    5,000 divided by 10 = 500 IUs per ml

What dose do you want to take? 175? 150? 200? 125? That's easy, just divide the dose you want by the strength you just got.

175 divided by 500 = .35 - this is the size of your dose, .35 ml. Or, if you're using the insulin needles, 35
    150 divided by 500 = .3 or 30
    200 divided by 500 = .4 or 40
    125 divided by 500 = .25 or 25

You can do it in Excel, or on a calculator, or even in your head, if you're a math whiz and can divide numbers like that in your head.

    2,000 divided by 5 = 400
    200 divided by 400 = .5

    10,000 divided by 10 = 1,000
    200 divided by 1000 = .2

This works no matter what vial you have - 2,000 or 5,000 or 10,000, and it works no matter how much or how little bac water you use to mix it. Deciding first that you want to have a dose of exactly .5, or .6, and trying to juggle the math backwards to get there is just confusing

Hope this helps. You can also look at a thread that I had with somincal earlier titled mixing clarification that answered these very same needle questions prob around pg 4 by now. as I was really confused about the needles.

crohrer...my main concern here is you are going to be injecting too much given the specs you posted. give me a whisper if you want and I will help you with the math. It's easy when you write it out.

Thank you soooo much!!! I think I am starting to get it. I am going to mix my 5000 ampule with 10 ml of bac water and will then inject .25. I am now confused by where I find this on my syringe. It is a 3ml which is marked on teh 1/2, 1, etc, so, I would assume that I would draw halfway to the 1/2 mark, ie, .25, BUT, when I count the tick marks on teh syringe, there are 5 little tick marks before I get to the 1/2 mark. So, for .25 do I draw up 2.5 little tickmarks or do I draw all the way to 1/2 of the 1/2 way mark?

Did anyone else have this confusion? I feel like a total pain in the behind, so, I really appreciate your help, again. : )

They don't usually screen for pregnancy and that's the only way it would show up.
