    Anti-cholesterol med interaction

I am getting ready to start my first run of HCG, and my Dr. prescribes me a statin anti-cholesterol med. Should I stay on the med? Would it degrade the HCG diet in any way? My Dr. is always checking my liver function on this med because the cholesterol is processed and excreted from there. I don't want to stress out my liver.

I'm on simvastatin while doing HCG. I just started my second round and no issues for me. Wait to hear from more people though!

I stayed on my zocor through my round and didn't have any trouble. The Dr. at my clinic knew I was on it when he gave me the hcg, so I figured it must be okay. All he said was that my ratios would be healthier after doing the hcg - my LDL was way high and my HDL was too low, even if the total number was under control with the meds. I haven't had my blood panel done yet after finishing my round, but I'm hopeful to see a difference!
    Best of luck!

I am on simvastitin and have been through all my rounds. The only issue is a caution about grapefruits and cholesterol meds. I still ate them in some of my rounds and my doctor was aware of it but I spaced it out at least 6+ hours from the time I took the meds.

Good point. I just avoided grapefruit entirely. Just because it's allowed doesn't mean I had to have it

More good info, thanks. I might just skip my nightly simvastatin for the 40 days I am taking my HCG just to be extra careful. I should not need it anyway since I won't be eating pizza and cheeseburgers for a while

    Hmmmm....
might want to talk to your doctor before stopping your medication for 40 days -- that's a long time.

I was on vytorin through my first two rounds. At the beginning of R3, my doc switched me to simvastatin saying I didn't need to double medicines that are in vytorin.

I'll have a lipid panel in May when I'm well done with P3 and P4 to see where my levels are. If they are good, I'm off all meds totally

I've been on Simvastatin 1 yr. for about a 220 chol. level. Mine has been 200 since I 1st tested @ 18 when I was 125 lbs. & a vegetarian--it's totally hereditary for me & I was super resistant to going on the meds & freaked myself out Googling before I filled my 1st prescription. I begged for a 30 day reprieve & ate a no cholesterol diet w/ tons of garlic, good foods, etc. & it didn't move a point! I haven't had any side effects, but I stopped for 2 weeks this round thinking it might be ok---I'm not sure that's the best thing to do & I imagine my doc wouldn't be too impressed, so I think I'm going to get back on (I'm @ the lowest dose & don't want to mess that up.) Beth, I'm curious how your tests come out, please let me know. I was also on meds for diabetes--it runs in my dad's fam (after their 1st heart attack at 46!), but my doc was thinking it might help w/ wieght loss--since I had kids, I gained about 25 lbs I cannot shake no matter what the diet. I get blood sugar dips & am borderline, but don't really need that med. It seems to help w/ heart palpitations...So,I'm back on the statin tomorrow & for the rest of the month on HCG. Please let me know how you all handled your meds on the diet--curious if there's any difference with or without...

Alli, all the statin's are not as harmful as all the other drugs out there. They actually found out a couple of years ago that they have other benefits, see http://www.time.com/time/health/arti...878543,00.html
Since the P2 part of the diet is so low in cholesterol, I may just do my simvastatin every other day to play it safe for the 40 days.
