Mysterious weight gain after 40-day round

Last round, I gained back about 7 pounds in P3 and P4, despite being pretty conservative and meticulous with my meal plans (eg: eating a large portion of a single potential problem food for 3 consecutive days and making sure I didn’t go 2 pounds over my LIW, keeping a food journal, doing steak days followed by high protein days, etc). However, after a certain point, it just seemed like my weight was gradually climbing for no easily discernible reason.

Right now, I’m completing another round, and if I can help it, I’d like to remain within 2 pounds of my LIW in P3 and P4. Should I get my thyroid checked? Should I complete one of those post-HCG hormone-correction diets like THM? Should I preemptively laser as many suspected foods as possible?

    Any input would be appreciated.

Yes get your thyroid checked about 6 weeks after your last dose of hcg. A problem like that is generally hormonal including thyroid. I love THM so that's a good option once you check your thyroid. Good luck!

Thank you, Grammy, I'll mark the date.

I've heard StopTheThyroidMadness is a good resource, but the website was a bit overwhelming when I first visited it. Is there a way to glean the important info without purchasing any of the reading material?

Also, regarding a “problem” food, if you continued to eat it for a few days straight, would you see a noticeable weight gain EVERY morning after or just the first morning?

Mysterious weight gain after 40-day round

For me, if I eat a problem food and don't do a correction day after the over 2 lb. limit gain, I'll just keep gaining more on top of that if I keep eating problem foods. It's actually very scary thinking that if you don't do something to stop it, you'll just keep gaining like a runaway train.

Has anyone else had that happen, and is it one of the causes for many regaining and having to do more rounds after they've reached goal?

There is a ton of info on StopTheThyroidMadness. I've never purchased the book. You really need the THM book though or you won't be able to really understand it.

Haha, okay, I'll buckle down, sift through the info, and educate myself as much as possible.

Also, have you met a lot of people with a thyroid problem whose only observable symptom is weight gain? Looking at the list of common symptoms, I feel like almost none of them apply to me.

A bit before my last round of HCG, I managed to lose about 7 pounds in about 2 months by restricting myself to about 1200 - 1500 calories per day and cutting out unhealthy snacks and junk foods. I feel like from that point on, I've had more energy throughout the day, and I think it only got better after losing more weight via HCG.

Of course even before my caloric restriction, I was probably 50 - 60 pounds overweight, so I'm sure there are at least a few underlying issues there.

usually there are other symptoms such as hair loss, thinning of the outer edges of your eyebrows, fatigue, and constipation. If you have none of those symptoms then your main problem may be an unknown food sensitivity.

Is it possible to be just sensitive enough to a food group to gradually gain, yet not sensitive enough to it to have a large immediate gain? lol

Mysterious weight gain after 40-day round

Yes flinrae, my problem is nightshades ( tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, etc. ). Some of these I gain more overnight(peppers, cooked tomatoes) - 3+ lbs. than others(potatoes) 1+ lb.

If that's true, how would anyone distinguish food insensitivity to the natural daily fluctuations of their weight?

Although I introduced a few new foods over the course of P3 and P4, I ate a lot of tuna, canola oil, eggs, and coconut-based foods from the beginning and continued doing it because there weren't any immediate spikes in my weight the next morning.

Canola oil isn't great for your balance of omega 3 to 6 and 9 ratio. A food challenge is the best way to test. You might check out the Recitas book The Plan.

Yeah, the premise of her book seems very interesting and very aligned with the wisdom shared on this forum.

Would doing a food challenge have the same effect as lasering every potential problem food?
